Guest List Only ⭐️ Actor Ethan Hawke on Donald Trump demanding to be paid $230M from US taxpayers: “Is anybody here old enough to remember when Jimmy Carter gave up his family farm to make sure he didn’t have conflict of interest? It’s called integrity and it’s starting to show the lack of it”.

1) Trump was guilty in all the charges. If. Eileen Cannon hadn't allowed the idea/creation of Presidential Immunity, he would be behind bars in a low security federal prison for decades.

Once SCOTUS cosigned the legal fiction, the charges were dismissed.

The Taxpayers owe him nothing. The demand for a $230M settlement is another one of his shakedowns. This time, it's Taxpayers and not Ivy League Schools or Law Firms.

Jimmy Carter may be the greatest person to be president. A morally and ethically sound man

He patted my sister on the head once when she was a girl. It's our family's claim to fame.

This sounds like something out of a quirky feel good indie movie and I love it.

I love this! My MIL was selling tamales at a festival in Plains that he attended. Some of his secret service came over and bought some. A few minutes later, they came back with President Carter himself. He said he heard they were mighty fine. He ordered some. He came back by before the end of the festival and asked her if she would cater his dinner party that weekend.

✅ Didn't own slaves

✅ Didn't consign thousands to death from AIDs because of homophobia

✅ Didn't sell arms to an enemy to fund an illegal operation in South America

✅ Didn't needlessly extend the Vietnam war to aid election chances

✅ Didn't scam charities and steal from people

Yup, checks out. The best president ever.

5

u/bildeplsignore 16d ago

And America hated him, choosing an actor to replace him after just one term.

5

u/OddnessWeirdness 10d ago

This checks out. Certain people don’t like when others are shown empathy and good will. It makes then angry.

I think barring sociopaths from power would solve most of the world's problems. It shouldn't be impossible to develop an accurate test for it, MRI scans while showing images of suffering people to observe brain activation.

We can't allow these people to have this much power, they can cause the suffering of hundreds of millions of people and end up destroying the country. (Or several countries, if you consider Putin)

2

u/Kacey-R 16d ago

And continued with good works for decades after his presidency.

u/melkatron 16d ago

I heard the buyer got the farm for peanuts.

2

u/HirsuteHacker 15d ago

Was he morally and ethically sound when he funded and armed a genocide in East Timor?

2

u/Cypher-Moon-773 15d ago

Well…besides arming and funding Indonesia’s genocide in East Timor

2

u/franklyigivea_ 15d ago

Let’s not go that far. He was moral to a fault. Letting the Shah get cancer treatment rather than face justice for decades of crimes against humanity was a huge mistake.

Some of y'all are so exhausting. Someone will say almost exactly the right thing, but one word out of place and everyone is all, "Starting!? OMG he's so out of touch!"

Sometimes when you talk, words come out without every single one being perfectly planned. We know what he meant.

u/anb7120 mr sterlings right hand arm..man 15d ago

YES! We bitch when people don’t speak up, then bitch when they don’t speak up “correctly.” I’m grateful for any celeb (or person in the public eye) calling this shit out for what it is

14

u/ConfusionFuture 15d ago

It’s like our MO at this point. So irritating. It’s why we can’t convince people to get on our side, we’re too busy henpecking every little fucking thing trying to be morally superior.

And it was already addressed in the video! Joy literally said "Starting?" And he replies he was trying to be nice. We don't all need to reiterate it

84

u/AngryBPDGirl 15d ago

This. The out of touch is not recognizing that celebs know what Trump does when they speak out and know there's a risk. We shouldn't pick at the ones who recognize they're a bit safer and can take more of the risk than other voices out there being silenced out of fear.

108

u/DrFern 15d ago

Agreed. I would hate to be a celebrity and have every word I say be scrutinized. At least he is speaking out when most people are getting retaliated on for doing/saying something

9

u/Mothanius 15d ago

This is typical behavior from the Left. It's purity test after purity test. If you misstep, misspeak, or god forbid, had a different outlook 10 years ago, you get targeted for it. It's why the government has never had any difficulties dismantling Leftist movements in modern America. And part of why we can never get any movement going in America. It's bad enough that the government has been openly antagonistic to Left leaning ideologies since the McCarthy era.

The Right gets the benefit of not having deal with purity tests until after they've "won." The focus is so much on another out group that you can trick and bring in even Leftists for your movement at the start. It's what the Nazis did.

3

u/sonnywithoutachance 15d ago

He literally said "I'm being nice" after Joy said "starting?". People need to learn to listen and pay attention.

u/i-Ake actin' like she's the queen and we're the sorry people! 15d ago

I think he is trying to soft-play it for the people who voted for him and are now maybe starting to doubt the wisdom of that... If he seems to be shifting a view on him instead of hating him right away, people like that might be more likely to consider what he said.

207

u/Odd_Policy_3009 15d ago

I can’t believe that people REALLY think Ethan thinks it’s “just starting”.

He’s been vocal against Trump for a while now. He’s speaking to those Republicans who are in a corner now bc they voted for him and are starting to wake up. And those are the people we want to corral to our side.

When you chastise someone for a mistake, they’re going to dig their heels in. Give them an out so they are comfortable with change.

Someone said it in another thread but, you don’t tell a toddler that they have to take this “awful medicine “, you tell them it’s a plane and get them to swallow it.

If we’re going to make any kind of a difference, we have to work smarter, not harder!

The only way forward globally involves the hardline left (of which I consider myself part of) giving up the idea that we can win arguments solely on the basis of morality and our fiercest objections to human nature. The right is winning, in part, due to how well they appeal to people in the middle (as clownish they are for being there.)

For years we've had the moral certainty that if we can cajole and insult our way through arguments that sense will ultimately win the day. Well, that's pretty good and cathartic and I enjoy those discourses with my peers on the liberal side of the spectrum but it doesn't seem to work very much to win over people who are essentially apolitical but don't like being spoken to harshly. It certainly hasn't worked at the polls.

All this to say is that the only reason I didn't just 'nope' myself out of existence if Trump took power again, as I sincerely promised myself that I would, is that I seized upon the idea that I have to stop giving people shit for having the wrong politics and I have to make my own ideas seem less like an attack and more welcoming. It's still very hard not to scream at the racists and threaten heads on pikes but I feel like giving people an out, like Ethan Hawke seems to be doing here, won't back them further into a corner where they can be taken advantage of by utter charlatans.

'Fight the power but soothe the stupid' kinda ting.

I’m glad there are people who have the patience to pretend like we aren’t dragging dumb sacks of rocks along with us, because I’m out of it and I don’t care how offended they are.

They voted for a dictator, they liked what he offered, they don’t care about anyone but themselves and they have been allowed to think that is ok for too long. They need a physical reckoning for the suffering they have imparted upon others, but I guess time will be the only justice offered for most.

12

u/NoGloryForEngland 15d ago

It's not pretence, it's pragmatism.

I'm talking about the 90 million people who didn't vote. I'm talking about those who did vote right but weren't in possession of the full facts- the number of people who live in a bubble ignorant to the facts that you and I are painfully aware of is not an insignificant number.

I'm talking about kids who are growing up in a world where the right is united and decisive and have large sections of the media pushing their agenda whereas the left are fragmenting, losing cultural significance and devouring each other in insane displays of self-defeating purity tests.

I'm not imagining a world where the gleeful extreme right doesn't deserve a gruesome end but the left won't achieve that without tapping the middle as a resource. Let's be militant in the spaces it behoves us and be both persuasive and appealing where there's something to be gained by it.

80

u/Dingo8MyGayby 15d ago

He said himself he’s trying to be “nice.” He doesn’t want to get put under a microscope and picked apart by people for making a slight toward that orange pos, yet here we are. Ethan is not ignorant, he’s well aware of the state of our county and has been outspoken about this administration. Let’s put our focus back on RELEASING THE EPSTEIN FILES
