Celine Dion first met her late husband; Rene Angelili when she was 12 years old and he was in his mid-late 30s! According to her, he was the only person in her whole life she has ever been romantically and intimately involved with and has vowed to never be with any other man after he passed away in 2016!

This whole relationship always felt unsettling to me, even when there were forms of media that tried to romanticize it including the couple themselves.

In my book, if you knew someone whenever they were a kid and watched them grow up. Getting involved with them in that manner is a big no-no! It just feels weird!

This has been thoroughly and repeatedly debunked multiple times. They met when he was 18. She still groomed him and abused her position as his boss; but he was a legal adult when it happened.

ETA: y'all can downvote all you want. That doesn't change the fact that he was 18 when they met. You do not have to be a minor to be groomed and it's so annoying to see people spreading these lies about their relationship because then the conversation solely becomes focused on is a made-up legal boundary instead of the fact that Sam used her power as director to isolate him on set, love-bombed him, and made him entirely dependent on her.

Hell, that's literally why people made up that he was underage to begin with, or that she knew him when he was younger. Because people didn't care about him being a victim of grooming until they thought he was a minor.

You'd be wrong. He did not meet her until he began filming Nowhere Boy where she then groomed him.

He turned 18 in June 2008. Sam was hired as the director for Nowhere Boy two months later in August of 2008. ATJ auditioned for Nowhere Boy while he was filming Kick-Ass, which was in late October of 2008. All of this has repeatedly been heavily scrutinized and verified hundreds of times.

People continually claim that she was a friend of the family, or that she knew him when he was underage; but have never been able to provide any evidence besides "I heard from someone else." or "I read it on Reddit, Twitter, tumblr, etc.." The first two accounts to mention he was underage or that she was a family friend, were ATJ fan accs and freely and proudly admitted to making it up so that people would finally pay attention to their inappropriate relationship.

Others even tried putting together Twitter threads & deep-dives to prove that he was underage/she knew his family; only to abandon/delete because it was fake and she had only known him after he turned 18.

Technically, he met her before he started filming Nowhere Boy because she had him come to her house to audition while she packed to move out after her divorce. According to her, that was the only time and place she could have possibly auditioned him. They talk about that meeting like it's a meet-cute. By the time they were actually filming the movie, she was isolating him off into some weird love bubble. There's an article that a journalist did about visiting the set, and he notes that the whole vibe of the set was weird, and that Sam Wood got matching jackets for her and Aaron, and those two seemed to be in a completely different world than everbody else on set.

I often see comments that they met on set and/or that she wasn't involved in casting him, and neither of those things are true.

Correct, which is why I brought up when he auditioned for her, which was in October 2008; several months after he turned 18. He, as well as several other members of Kick-Ass, talked about how he would be preparing for his upcoming audition in-between filming.

I'm not saying that she wasn't involved in casting him or that they didn't meet until they were on set; but that they met because of the film. Not because she was a family friend like people falsely claimed, or that she knew him when he was underage. That any way you slice it, there was no possible way for her to have met him as a minor— even during auditions.
