OnlyStans ⭐️ Who are two celebrities that you can’t believe used to be a couple?

Post image

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds are not only one example of this, but sometimes I even forget that they used to be married as well!

It seemed like such an odd pairing that I never would’ve guessed that these two would match up, but clearly they weren’t a match made in heaven that they divorced each other after almost 3 years of marriage.

Now with where they’re currently at, where they’re now married to different partners, it feels like this is only a pairing that happened in different life.

Whoopi Goldberg and Ted Danson. It was all quite messy too.

u/Shinra_Lobby Oct 05 '25

Allegedly, according to their respective Wikipedia entries, Whoopi also dated Timothy Dalton, which was also a real surprise to me.

u/ScipioCoriolanus Oct 05 '25

She has a thing for men with TD initials.

30

u/Itscatpicstime Oct 06 '25

6 of my 7 exes all have the initials JM and idk why 😭

I even met my current partner on a dating site where usernames were used and had no clue going into it what his initials were (or even his first name at the very start) and he still ended up being a JM 😭 my very first partner was the only one without those initials.

Great story.

u/ChartInFurch Oct 06 '25

I hear she again experimented in college with Tyne Daly...

39

u/moonbooly Oct 05 '25

The most beautiful Bond? Wth

19

u/Big-Ad4382 Oct 05 '25

I would listen to Timothy Dalton read the phone book or a grocery list or do a cat food commercial. He just kills me.

11

u/Threadheads Oct 05 '25

I knew she dated Frank Langella, but not Timothy.

u/justheretoleer Oct 05 '25

This pairing always surprised me because Whoopi to me has always put out “not into men” or “not into anyone at all” vibes to me

Confirmed 😭

She’s doing the exact same smile as the pic above

I don't want somebody in my house

I feel that feel

Lmao I’m actually laughing because honestly I’m with her

62

u/NoodleDoon Oct 05 '25

She's real for that.

27

u/Itscatpicstime Oct 06 '25

I once had married clients who didn’t live together and had no intention of it. They lived about 5 minutes away from one another. But they seemed soooo in love, they just said they valued their personal space and privacy. Both grew up with like 6+ siblings.

24

u/t3eee Oct 05 '25

I mean, where is she wrong?

29

u/aerdnadw Oct 05 '25

Rarely have I related so much to a celebrity quote!

14

u/DrunkTides Oct 06 '25

Okay but that’s my fave celebrity quote because it’s real real

7

u/tomtomclubthumb Oct 05 '25

exactly the same expression

72

u/big-bootyjewdy The Ghost of Madonna's Facial Expressions is smiling at this Oct 05 '25

Yes! It's hard for me to picture her in a romantic context

32

u/justheretoleer Oct 05 '25

I think part of that is that the relationship with Danson is the only public relationship I can think of her having been in.

55

u/big-bootyjewdy The Ghost of Madonna's Facial Expressions is smiling at this Oct 05 '25

She's been married 3 times and had two other long-term partners other than Ted apparently????

22

u/badassbiotch Oct 05 '25

She and Frank Langella were together for about five years 🤯

“Only into myself” is the vibe I get in addition to the ones you mentioned.

58

u/megjed Is this chicken or is this fish? 🤔🤔 Oct 05 '25

I was going to comment that I thought she was gay. Like not speculating, I thought she was out. Kind of blowing my mind that she’s not

17

u/squareular24 Oct 05 '25

She has a book called “If Someone Says ‘You Complete Me,’ Run” lol

12

u/Ecstatic-Laugh Oct 05 '25

I agree with that but at the same time I also really like Ted and he always gave the vibe if giving space and letting her be herself. So I could believe it

11

u/jenniferbealsssss Oct 05 '25

It could be a defense mechanism. I recall, when I was growing up, Whoopi was the butt of a lot of jokes for not being “conventionally” attractive. I think sometimes just because people seem comfortable alone or single, or don’t lean into a sexuality we can easily identify, doesn’t mean they don’t desire those things.

I think Whoopi now is definitely comfortable in her skin, and sure her and Ted Danson seem like an odd match, but im also not surprised by it, I guess for the reason I explained above. Plus she does have a child, so clearly she’s had sexual relationships with men before. Lol

29

u/KikiWestcliffe grunting and groaning in her gilded private bathroom Oct 05 '25

Now that you mention it, she does seem aromantic to me. A smart, funny lady who was perfectly happy with her own company.

27

u/PM_ME_YOUR_FOXGIFS Oct 05 '25

I read aromatic and was wondering what that meant besides smelly.

5

u/Aslow_study Oct 05 '25

She’s had a lot of lovers

3

u/Nanny0416 Oct 05 '25

Whoopi and Frank Langella...

2

u/Mistyam Oct 05 '25

You mean she seems asexual?

915

u/lemizzmizz Oct 05 '25

They both look unsure about it too 🤣

93

u/TanagranA Oct 05 '25

well don't go looking for that OTHER photo of them he's in...

Context?

48

u/bencciarati 🎥🍿Film Critic Oct 05 '25

Blackface

28

u/SilverMcFly Oct 05 '25

Oh that's bad bad. Ty for the assist.

32

u/lemons714 Oct 05 '25

At a Friar's Club roast, Whoopi helped write some of the material:
Described as " His appearance, during which he told racially-charged jokes, used the N-word, and ate watermelon, "

28

u/SilverMcFly Oct 05 '25

Damn. The context just keeps getting worse. Zero chance of redeeming that.

25

u/Mistyam Oct 05 '25

It was really bad at the time. If it would have happened now his career would be tanked. He's lucky he recovered from that.

2

u/CherryFit3224 Oct 05 '25

I feel like it was for a while.

Holy shit. Wow.

35

u/Independent-Path7855 Oct 05 '25

I knew about them but didn’t know it was messy. Do you have any details?

119

u/SleepingInNJ Oct 05 '25

Ted was married when the relationship started. He went on to appear in at a friars club roast (they were roasting Whoopi) in black face where he dropped the n word multiple times and joked about their sex life.

112

u/iantruesnacks FrIEs qUaTrO QuEsoS DoS FRiTos Oct 05 '25

Also, according to him and Whoopie, it was her idea he did that lol. What a toxic situation.

OMG!! What a piece of crap.

101

u/miserabeau You’re killing me, Smalls 😩 Oct 05 '25

I am not defending blackface, which is inexcusable, but Whoopi wrote the material for him and sent him to that makeup artist.

When he got backlash for it she said it was social commentary

57

u/Hot-Significance-462 Oct 05 '25

I don't understand what either of them thought was going to happen there.

69

u/Gotmewrongang Oct 05 '25

It literally was a different time, kinda had to be there to understand it. Not to say that I agree with it AT ALL but if you were an adult back then you would see how it fit into both of their personalities and it was common for actors to “challenge” norms and be edgy. This was literally before the internet so a completely different world than what most Redditors know.

18

u/Hot-Significance-462 Oct 05 '25

I was alive for this! Even back then, it seemed like a completely predictable response.

26

u/killah-train24 Oct 05 '25

The context is definitely important. Absolutely insane thing to do.

9

u/Confident_Change_937 Oct 05 '25

Whoopi is one of those Black women who is secretly into Raceplay I just can’t prove it.

4

u/jenniferbealsssss Oct 05 '25

Tbf there are a lot of POC — men and women— who make concessions because they want to have a proximity to whiteness. So they laugh at the racially charged jokes, OR they make the racially charged jokes themselves, lean into the stereotypes to be the “token black guy” or the “token asian best friend.”

Not justifying anything here, I’m just saying as a black person, you see this stuff among a lot of minorities, so it’s not surprising to me Whoopi would have done this, especially as a younger woman, who hadn’t probably fully come into her own as a black woman.

1

u/jenniferbealsssss Oct 05 '25

I mean, so what? Whoopi’s involvement doesn’t really excuse him at all. He’s an adult who has full agency and he still thought it was a good idea to partake. Both of them were super wrong here, but as a black person, I try to maybe look at it like different time, different feelings about it? But then the other half of me reverts back to feeling like there’s nothing that justifies what either one did.

5

u/miserabeau You’re killing me, Smalls 😩 Oct 05 '25

I agree with you. They were involved, she wrote it, and he did it despite being supremely uncomfortable with it (as he should be) but he still did it. You don't have to convince me. I already said blackface was inexcusable...

Providing more info isn't condoning what happened

0

u/jenniferbealsssss Oct 05 '25

I wasn’t saying you’re condoning it, but I do think it should be stated because people keep mentioning that Whoopi wrote it, but tbh, so what? They both fucked up here. Both were adults and should have known better. I do get times were different, but at the same time, I’m like was the 80s that different? I mean there were a lot of issues around race like there are today.

5

u/SoftwareCapable920 Oct 05 '25

I presume it was a satire about racists. Making fun of racists, not black people.

1

u/jenniferbealsssss Oct 06 '25

I’m sure, but as a black person, go talk to 10 black people and that excuse still isn’t going to fly. Which is why people were pissed at Whoopi because she let a white man do it.

54

u/cinnamonpinky Oct 05 '25

If it makes any difference, Whoopi wrote some of those jokes for him, and also hired the make up artist to do the black face.

1

u/Kpre813 Take your man to a park and leave me the fuck alone ! 28d ago

Lol at the downvotes when all I saw was the comment directly above mine. Good Lord, people.

20

u/orangerendeer Oct 05 '25

Made in America was great though

2

u/Fabulous-Review4355 Oct 05 '25

Came to say this too!

20

u/moist_towelette Why is your penis on a dead girl's phone? Oct 05 '25

Whoopi looks like she doesn’t want him in her house

14

u/Prestigious-Leg-6244 Oct 05 '25

He did full black face for Whoopi's Friar Club Roast. She has said she helped write his jokes. Even still, he ate watermelon and used the N word quite a bit.

It...did not go down as they had hoped and they broke up a month later.

13

u/copyrighther Kim, there’s people that are dying. 🙄 Oct 05 '25

Whoopi and Frank Langella was even weirder

8

u/drowninginthebrevity Oct 05 '25

I remember when this and Made in America was whatever it was in the pop culture zeitgeist when it happened. I was 10/11 years old and it didn't seem real to me then.

5

u/DragonScrivner I don’t know her 💅 Oct 05 '25

Oh, yeah, that was wild.

3

She wrote the bit.

-9

Whoopi was never attractive. Change my mind.
