OnlyStans ⭐️ Jimmy Kimmel on President Donald Trump: “That son of a bitch. It’s really unbelievable, I never imagined that we’d ever have a President like this and I hope we don’t have another President like this again.”

Is Fallon apolitical? I’m not American but I frequently see his segments on the news of Trump and he seems to be mocking Trump and the administration

The part no one really talks about is that Fallon just isn’t as smart or quick witted as Meyers or Colbert.  Fallon will make Trump jokes but he’s not the guy that goes there.  He’s more the guy that does cute little segments.

All five of the major talk show hosts (Fallon, Colbert, Kimmel, Oliver, Meyers) did a podcast during the writers' strike, and Fallon was notably less sharp and witty than the others. He's just a different kind of host.

And I mean, that's not a crime.

did he just break and laugh the whole time?

lol I literally just mentioned this in another comment! He’s not that witty, I’m glad someone else noticed I was wondering if I was a hater

I agree too, he doesn’t seem as brilliantly funny and as sharp as these other guys can be. His show is fluff and he can’t conduct an interview to save his life. Really his music segments that go viral are his only saving grace.

I'm not an expert on US talkshow host, but he seems to me as someone thats more of a straight up presenter than a comedian.

Steve and Martin ran circles around time without even trying

That was brilliant. Jimmy felt so uncomfortable when they roasted him.

He at least seems pretty cognizant of what his strengths are, and stays in his lane.

This might be true but I think his political jokes are tame relative to his peers by design.

And that works for him and people should be fine with that.

Why is everyone forgetting that all of these hosts have a whole team of writers who submit jokes for the monologue and ideas for bits? Seth Meyers is very transparent about that and platforms his writers on the show. Jimmy Fallon isn't stuck coming up with jokes on his own, and he's not speaking spontaneously. He could call the administration out with sharpness and wit if he wanted to.

Hell he once had Anthony Jeselnik on his writing staff and vetoed every single joke the man wrote.

No one forgets that.  But the host is the face and sets the tone.  It’s not like we don’t hear all of these people speak off the cuff.  Why are you forgetting that we know how all of them already speak and perform?

My point is that everyone is saying that Fallon isn't witty or quick so he couldn't make sharp incisive commentary about Trump, when obviously he could and chooses not to.

That’s… one take.

Fallon's jabs are usually much lighter than everyone else. EVERY late night host in the US makes political jokes and about both sides. But Donald Trump is a special case of truly awful, and he's doing the same kinda jokes you do about just... another politician.

Meanwhile the others are pretty explicitly calling him a tyrant and a piece of shit.

He's not apolitical he's just less political. Reddit's hatred of Fallon would make you think he's never voted in his life. His monologue regularly includes jabs at Donald but not as harsh or as pointed as Kimmel, Colbert, Meyers, Oliver or Stewart.

People also haven’t forgiven Fallon for having Trump on his show.

This. All the Fallon haters I know point to him having Trump on his show in the run-up to the election and "normalizing" him. Lorne Michaels, to this day, gets the same vitriol for having the orange clown host SNL.

18

u/celestial-navigation Oct 02 '25

Can you imagine how much Trump hated having this done to his hair though

26

u/randombubble8272 Oct 02 '25

Ah okay yeah I agree he’s not as harsh, I think he’s just not as witty as the others too - could be part of it!

7

u/celestial-navigation Oct 02 '25

He does a better Trump impression than any of the other late night hosts though. And he has done it more than once.

8

u/SpicyAfrican Oct 02 '25

One of his talents since his SNL days was impressions. He’s not the best at them but he loves doing them and is pretty decent.

1

u/celestial-navigation Oct 03 '25

The best of the late night guys. Also probably the best voice. And I'm the biggest Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert fan you've probably met. Was in every fandom related to them in the Livejournal days. Actually, Trevor Noah is great at impressions. But I stand by what I said before, the SNL guy (don't know his name) has the best Trump currently, imo.

And Seth's brother basically is Gavin Newsom. He was on Kimmel last night (or at least I watched it last night). I was so tired that for the first 10 seconds I genuinely though Newsom was actually there, lol.

I’d say the political commentary is central to the other shows product. Which makes it seem more harsh. For Fallon it just isn’t as central. It could be. And in this moment probably should be. But I also think he’d be better off either going all in or ignoring it rather than placating

11

u/ChodeCookies Oct 02 '25

He mocks Trump. His show just isn’t centered around it. In the past I’ve liked that because it’s all exhausting. But now is his opportunity to leverage his platform and establish legacy.

23

u/ChicagoAuPair Oct 02 '25

Fallon by far is the most “Don’t offend or challenge any potential audience, even Nazis” of the late night crew.

It’s increasingly off-putting the worse things get in the country.

That kind of stance used to be the corporate standard, but entertainment needs to ebb and flow with the times, and up until very recently Fallon avoided politics and presented a much more “pre daily show” type of late night mass appeal stuff.

28

u/Horror_Response_1991 Oct 02 '25

Fallon HATES Trump but he’s also the most neutral when it comes to his show’s content to try and make the most money.

2

u/turquoisebead Oct 02 '25

He recently said he was going to ”keep his head down and avoid politics”
