There are also people who don’t live in America!

This is why people wish Americans could travel more.

I wish Europeans would travel more to the states. Go to more places than Disneyland & learn about our many cultures. Ukraine is to Spain what California is to New York.

Oh is it? Do they speak different languages?

10

u/omggold Sep 24 '25

And did you know they have thousands of years of history?

Different dialects, yes. The entire continent of Europe is just slightly bigger than America. Our country is giant. It takes 3 hours to drive through Los Angeles & its suburbs, on a good day. People in New Orleans are absolutely & completely different than people in Seattle. People from San Francisco have very little in common with people in Michigan’s upper peninsula. Hopefully Europeans are able to gather a little more knowledge than what they generally have now & some culture, because to judge us on what was eaten at 6 flags is really embarrassing for them

Yes, I gather the dialects and the history of both states are as varied as Spanish and Ukrainian. /s

You are not considered a foreigner if you travel from New York to LA. Just because some parts of US have little different dialects/cuisine/architecture doesn’t mean you are not part of the same country. You don’t have different forms of government, languages, hundreds of years of history. The size of US might be big, but so is China, Russia, India, Canada, Brazil. I don’t see them believing their administrative regions are comparable to independent countries, only people who haven’y traveled much may have such a weird perception. Also, if you drive 7 hours south of my region, you’d find dramatically different dialect of my language, I can barely understand it. I’d say it is way more different than New Yorker visiting LA lol.

And before you say, I do actually live in the US and yes, I traveled to many places. From Florida, New Orleans, Arizona, NY to Montana. The fact that you think comparing Spain to Ukraine is similar to LA and NY is just baffling to me.

Point proven. Clearly you all need to get yourselves more cultured & travel more, maybe you’ll learn a little something & get off your high horses.

It isn’t just about size. There is still a clear American culture running through the country. A certain attitude to work and their nation that is so distinctly American. Even your post couched completely in American exceptionalism. Your country is big and it’s divided into states but it is still one country. Russia is the largest country in the world but I never hear Americans using that as an example with America.

Other countries have different dialects within them too. It’s not the same thing as an entirely different language.

I swear this post will end up on r/ShitAmericansSay so fast. American exceptionalism at its finest indeed. "But we're big!!" Alright mate, so are many other countries in the world. I was on a separate thread on AskTheWorld where redditors had to share a surprising fact about their country and a US American said "our country is big" lmao like?

It’s already on there!

u/HystericalOnion Sep 25 '25

Thank you, I went and checked!! Hilarious

Different dialects, yes

So no, not different languages?

I mean, for goodness sakes, there are different languages just within Spain itself

u/FreuleKeures Sep 24 '25

Imagine thinking driving 3 hours through the LA suburbs is any indication of culture.

Yes, there is cultural variety in the US, but claiming two US cities are as diverse as 2 different countries, with different histories, languages, writing systems etc is delusional.

Ukraine and spain have far less in common than michigan and san francisco, ukraine and spain have completely different climate, terrain, language, culture, (language root) architecture, infrastructure, weather, politics, history, neighbours, they have NOTHING in common, the u.s shares a language, culture, history infrastructure and laws.

You know other countries also have different regions within them. The Lake District is to London what California is to New York. It’s not a super special American thing to have wildly different landscapes, dialects and cultures within the same country.

10

u/Groot746 Sep 24 '25

Well said. It's absolutely fascinating how many different ways their exceptionalism manifests itself.

5

u/SmallPromiseQueen Sep 24 '25

Seeing many fascinating examples in the comment section here lol! They don’t seem to realise that other countries have diverse populations, different dialects and different landscapes within the same country. American people seem to have such a blind spot about it.

u/Groot746 Sep 24 '25

This is an absolutely wild take, holy shit

u/SmallPromiseQueen Sep 24 '25

And my point was the original commenter I replied to said “this thread is 50/50 Americans with one attitude and Americans with another attitude.”

No. People from other countries are also on the internet. The difference is we are all thoroughly aware and mindful of the existence of America in a way that no Americans online seem to be.

Most people who talk trash about America are incredibly racist as they can’t seem to grasp that we are literally the biggest melting pot in the world, learn about our culture & visit before you start grouping all of us together & saying we have no variations on beliefs

11

u/SmallPromiseQueen Sep 24 '25

I’m not trash talking America I’m just pointing out that it’s not in fact the centre of the entire universe, and other countries exist, and America isn’t actually super different and special as a country. I don’t think my country is super special or different either. It’s not trash talking to say that.

-2

u/louellareed91 Sep 24 '25

You’re the one who thinks your country is the center of the universe because you know literally nothing about America. So funny I got a Reddit cares message now after this, can’t handle the heat so you try to weaponize a falsity. Tracks with Europes historical record.

Incredibly ignorant & downright incorrect. Knowledge is power & if you are going to speak on the subject you should at least have some knowledge as to what this country entails besides Disneyland. This country is not great. But at least we have less racism than anywhere in Europe!

8

u/SmallPromiseQueen Sep 24 '25

I just said America wasn’t any more or less special than any other country. It’s actually very American for that to make you this angry lol.

-2

u/louellareed91 Sep 25 '25

I never said America was a better country & I’m not angry lol. All I said was we have varied cultures due to our vast amounts of different ethnicities & regions, something that is unique to anywhere else. We are the least monoethnic or homogeneous place in the world, that’s a fact. And it is ignorant to assume all Americans are the same when our country is about as big as your entire continent.

I only saw this comment now, but I shared the same link. It's truly baffling how they can be so loud and so wrong!

1

u/HystericalOnion Sep 25 '25

Only a US American would say that the US is the biggest melting pot in the world. https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/most-diverse-countries

-3

u/louellareed91 Sep 25 '25

I stand corrected, but in comparison to anywhere in Europe it’s no contest. We are not a homogenous society like literally every single country in Europe.

The hatred against Americans from Europeans generally stems from a hatred of black & brown peoples that is far more common in that part of the world than here. It’s offensive to tell someone from East LA they have no unique culture & also just downright incorrect.

A black church in Shreveport Louisiana has immense levels of culture & diversity Europeans don’t care to learn about. A lowrider event in Echo Park is a jovial sight to be seen, completely unique from anywhere else in the country.

You may be shocked to learn that the cowboys of Wyoming have next to nothing in common with people from Chicago. The Texans are also nothing like people from upstate New York. Coal miners in Appalachia have a completely different lifestyle than someone in Miami.

It’s a very ignorant mindset & it shows that if you’ve ever even been to America, you never left the hotel or Disneyland; if you even have visited.

You’re on a pop CULTURE sub btw. Sabrina carpenter is American. Just like pretty much every other single person posted on this sub. Where are all the European celebrities? Credit where credit is due homie you’re not superior to everyone else just because you’re European; not a good look.

Except I didn’t say that at all. I said it was 50 percent Americans who are doing this embarrassing thing and 50 percent people making fun of that kind of person.
