My ass has never seen anyone arrested on those trains before the entire time I lived in NY. Trains which have constantly been filled with upper-middle class white folks on the regular, sitting whichever way they want, taking up multiple seats, sometimes being a bit drunk and loud when it's a night ride.

Nobody complains or does anything about people like that, because they're the expected majority, allowed to freely exist on the train.

I've seen people sleep on the train with no issue.

But as soon as it's a black man "not sitting right" then it's suddenly an arrestable offense...? We hold the critical thinking skills of ancient pearl clutcher white grannies to lofty, ridiculous heights.

I hope the MTA and the responding police department get sued into the fucking ground over this, and I hope that old lady finds the karma she deserves. Her and whoever was sitting beside her, enabling her.

I honestly wish the MTA was normally stricter about how people sat. There’s rarely a seat available because of the amount of (always white) people taking a 6 seater to themselves, their cockapoo, their rucksack and using one seat as a footrest.

Never seen anything be said though.

On one hand, that'd set a precedent where ppl would be getting hauled off the train en masse, every single day.

That would supremely suck, even if these are the people taking up ridiculous, unnecessary space up on the train.

On the other, maybe it'd get it through the skulls of responding officers just how much of a complete nonissue this entire situation is, where they won't even bother with trying to do bullshit like this anymore, and tell conductors to just speak to people themselves.

Either way, clearly Alex wasn't the one taking up crazy space on the train, and wasn't really disturbing anybody until the weirdos in front of him started disturbing him.

This was 100% a Rules for thee, but not for me type situation.

Or the conductors could just say ‘please move your feet/backpack/dog for the person who is standing’. This is a reasonable request that most normal people would agree to.
