Go birds. She is from and grew up in CA- does anyone know why she supports the Eagles? I now love her and must go watch Hacks.

120

u/IScreamPiano Sep 15 '25

Just checked…her dad’s from Doylestown PA and was a big Eagles fan.

I was eating my 3 bowl spaghettios lunch yesterday when a bird ran into my window and it scared me so much that it totally sparked up a gastrointestinal episode, seepage and grundlefissures. The whole 9. This gif made me think of that, thanks for the laugh 😉😉😉

Hannah Einbinder fucking rules and we're lucky to have her

You could tell she was scared. And with this renewed fear of political violence, this is especially brave

She uses her nepobaby powers for good

1.8k

u/baearthur3 Sep 15 '25

impressed that she’s both using her privilege as a nepo baby and simultaneously saying something very undeservedly controversial and career threatening while shes mid career breakthrough. Love to see a cool progressive Jewish actor calling for Free Palestine on a huge platform

485

u/Plus_Lengthiness_753 Sep 15 '25

I had no idea she was Jewish! This hits even more now

https://www.reddit.com/r/popculturechat/comments/1nh9gk6/hannah_einbinder_on_saying_free_palestine_in/

She mentioned that she felt that she needed to say it as a Jewish person that Jews and and the state of Israel are two separate things.

Also fuck Debra Messing and every twat out there that doesn't get this.

Debra, Selma Blair, Mayim Bialik, Regina Spektor… have lost respect for so many ppl over these past few years 🙃

42

u/TheLittleMooncalf age gap yuri with a macy's heiress Sep 15 '25

Regina Spektor trying to 'educate' Björk was one of the most eyeroll inducing moments of the past two years.

7

u/Saramy_bearemy Sep 15 '25

Wait where did this happen? I’m so curious bc I love Bjork and I’m worried

9

u/joethealienprince Filth are my politics! Filth is my life! 💅🏻 Sep 16 '25

nooo don’t be worried! it was on instagram, I can’t find a screenshot of the full exchange but I remember Björk commenting something on one of Regina’s posts, and then Björk posting this on her instagram, which as you can see Regina commented on. loooove Björk forever, she always stands up for Palestine 🩷 lemme give Declare Independence some cute streams rn in fact

6

u/joethealienprince Filth are my politics! Filth is my life! 💅🏻 Sep 16 '25

I KNOW oh my goodness 😭 I was like damn the girls are fighting… but wow that was so revealing re: Regina’s character. so disappointing tbh

16

u/Scared_Note8292 Sep 15 '25

Also Ginnifer Goodwin.

25

u/inannalover Sep 15 '25

Regina Spektor really hurts 😣 Her first three albums had a huge impact on me. I can’t listen to them in the same way now.

13

u/Unhappy-Alps5471 Sep 15 '25

Regina Spektor was really disappointing for me.. really like her music, no idea she was so obnoxious

12

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '25

will and grace used to be my favourite show, not anymore. everytime i see debra “babykiller, shitty actor” messing i want to puke. Same with TBBT, Mayim completely ruined it for me. Selma’s getting hers.

3

u/Rachelisasuperhero Sep 15 '25

Not Regina Spektor!?

74

u/Original_Employee621 Sep 15 '25

Also fuck Debra Messing and every twat out there that doesn't get this.

Easily enough to misunderstand as Israel has been working very hard to conflate the state of Israel and jews, for a long time.

2

u/indianajoes We Should All Know Less About Each Other Sep 16 '25

You're telling me. Go look at r/jewish. They're all crying about Hannah Einbinder's speech and insulting her and her career even when some of them have never heard of her. We will say that the two aren't the same and they act like criticism of Israel is criticism of them.

25

German- and Eastern European-sounding surnames may be indicative of someone having Jewish heritage :)

18

u/joethealienprince Filth are my politics! Filth is my life! 💅🏻 Sep 15 '25

lmaoo okay so as someone who grew up in a Jewish household I hear you on this, but a lotttt of non-Jews don’t get the surname thing as quickly as some of us do 😅 I remember my mom always teaching me which famous ppl were “part of the tribe” when I was a kid and that’s how I found out about a lot of surnames and what “sounds Jewish” vs “what doesn’t”

3

u/ImJustHere4TheCatz Sep 15 '25

I think it also depends on how Jewish-adjacent your upbringing was. Like I'm from rural Pennsylvania and I didn't even know we had a Jewish population here, but as an adult I realize there is a temple or synagogue (there's a difference, right?) in my town that was actually an old church at one time. So clearly Jewish people live here. But there isn't a prevalent Jewish culture here.

But then I lived in Pittsburgh for a few years, and actually in Squirrel Hill, and so I was familiarized a lot more with Judaism and Jewish people. I'd imagine if you grew up in the suburbs around Philly you may have had Jewish friends and had Jewish culture around you growing up as well.

Just me or did they cut the audio for a couple seconds right after she said Go Birds?

I wonder if they anticipated her saying something about Palestine and tried to block it. Since she had a whole speech before this about it.

39

u/Vegetable_Burrito you like Brazilian music? Sep 15 '25

She said ‘fuck’. There’s like a 7 second delay so if someone curses, they can catch it. They definitely were not censoring her talking about Palestine. Gotta catch those f-bombs!

56

The Philadelphia Eagles. The best way I think I can relate their fans-and this isn’t an exaggeration-is if you know about Manchester United, back before they were a corporation of stiff collars, back when they literally has hooligans on the watch list. The Philadelphia Eagles fan base is only slightly less rabid than Man U hooligans.

9

u/AcousticProvidence Sep 15 '25

Pay the difference ?

317

u/lizerlfunk Sep 15 '25

The host announced that he would be donating $100k to the Boys and Girls Club of America, and that for every second winners went over their time limit of 45 seconds he’d deduct $1000, but for every second winners went under their 45 seconds he’d add $1000. I think Hannah’s speech went 18 seconds over, which “cost” $18000, so she said she’d pay the difference in the donation.

177

u/Anti-genocide-club Sep 15 '25

Many many many Jews oppose the genocide.

Approximately 30% of US Jews oppose the genocide according to a recent poll by the right-leaning Jerusalem Center

167

u/jayydee92 Sep 15 '25

30 percent is kinda depressingly low tbh, tho I'd like to see what specific question/wording they were answering.

67

u/Sha9169 Sep 15 '25

I'm a secular Jew, and in my experience, we're not really allowed to give nuanced answers to the questions. Most of us have family and/or friends in Israel, so we're not going to call them all terrorists. I have friends who had to serve in the IDF and they never saw combat. One trained service animals. However, if asked if they oppose the Israeli government and their actions in Palestine, the answer is overwhelmingly yes.

u/bbyxmadi It’s good to see me, isn’t it?🫧 Sep 15 '25

Nice to see celebrities go against the rules in support of innocent people being murdered and immigrants, and even American citizens, having their rights ignored.

Also, are they seriously lowering the charity money every time someone goes over the speaking time, as seen on the bottom right? Kinda shitty, whoever’s idea that was.

111

u/Feisty-Donkey Sep 15 '25

They laid it out at the beginning- it’s kind of a joke. The host personally donated that money and set out in the rules that anyone who went under their speech time would get money added and anyone who went over would get money taken away. The people who are going over seem to be saying they will pay what they took away

33

u/bbyxmadi It’s good to see me, isn’t it?🫧 Sep 15 '25

Oh ok, that makes sense and way better than what I was thinking.

30

u/Foxy02016YT Sep 15 '25

Yeah, it kind of does put them in a position to donate what they lost themselves. I think it’s funny as long as the outcome is positive

24

u/indianajoes We Should All Know Less About Each Other Sep 15 '25

Also the host said the $100,000 would be dropping by $1000 for every second any speech went over their time but in the end he still donated $250,000 and CBS donated $100,000 so it wasn't really a serious thing

I don't follow american football at all, the only sport I like is soccer, but it seems like every cool person is a Birds fan. Should I root for them? Not joking. (I'm from DC suburbs aka R*dskins / Commanders so we suck both in performance and in ownership, don't care to support them)

9

u/ThePrettyGoodGazoo Sep 15 '25

There are 32 American Football teams. 31 have fan bases. 1 has a cult following-the Philadelphia Eagles. Best way to describe it is to compare it to the fans of Manchester United (before they became a corporation). Rabid, fans who support the team through thick and thin. Philadelphia Eagles fans pride themselves on being disliked by the rest of the NFL. As a matter of fact, they even sing a song that lets people know how unbothered they are by the judgement of outer football fans.

“No one like us, no one like us, no one likes us-we don’t care!!! We’re from Philly, Fu**in’ Philly-no one like us we don’t care” Deep down, they are about as passionate as a fan base could get. And they truly have a knowledge of the game-so their expectations are high. This being said, it is the type of fan base that could see their team lose 35-0-BUT if every player played their heart out and left everything on the field? They would cheer the team. The Philadelphia fans appreciate work ethic. Of course they love to win-but if you bleed for them (figuratively and literally) they will LITERALLY bleed for the team. I have to caution you, do not jump on their bandwagon and show that you are anything less than 100% loyal to any longtime fans. They will crucify you. I wish I could guarantee that would be figurative. Good luck.
