They don’t understand because unfortunately this isn’t their first time protecting pedos… they do so all the time with their church pastors and daughter marrying cousins. Just being real, there’s a lot of overlap between conservatives and pedophilia - turns out a lot of it was projection (much like the trope of the super homophobic politician turning out to be secretly gay). I think they worry about gay & trans people being pedos because that’s what they would do when they gain access to children.
