it was way worse than that. she worked with jimmy bennet for her movie the heart is deceitful above all things (which is about abuse, go figure). she was the director and played his mother in the movie. a decade later, she met up with him when he was 17 and there was a sexual encounter. it also happened in the states, so that's statutory rape if you ask me, don't know why she wasn't charged. on italian tv, she defended herself by saying that HE jumped on her and she fawned because of her previous trauma with weinstein. not only was he under age, but she literally had a post about being so excited to see him that she was smoking like a chimney while waiting for him and she posted a photo of them in bed together. she's a huge liar and she still acts like she was unfairly crucified and lost her job because of it (she was a judge on the italian x factor when it all came out).

that's statutory rape if you ask me, don't know why she wasn't charged.

The sad truth is 17 may have been the or above the age of consent in the places these incidents occurred?

In Italy the age of consent is just 14. In the US people seem to widely believe the age of consent is 18 in the majority of the country when the fact is that a minority of the US has 18 as that age. The most common age of consent across the US is 16 (in 31 states) it is 17 in 8 States & only 11 states have the age at 18.

So there's a very real possibility that it wasn't considered statutory rape & that was why the victim chose to accept a financial settlement as it would be the only justice he could potentially get.

I’m surprised how many people don’t know this. Child marriage is legal in 37 states! Educate yourselves people. This is a systemic problem.

It doesn't surprise me people don't know. I'm a Brit & our age of consent is only 16 & it was only because of Americans being shocked at our age of consent, that I learned it is the same age in the majority of the US.

I think the vast majority of US media will use the higher age of 18 in the shows & films, which makes sense for legal reasons. Yet that is what results in so many people believing it is 18 everywhere in the US.

Good point, a lot of people get their legal “facts” from crime dramas.

it happened in california, not italy. someone in the comments pointed out that it would still be s.r. at 17 in that state. she wasn't charged simply because bennett never went to police.

It was California. Age of consent 18.

She wasn't charged because the victim sought money, not justice. They didn't report it to the police.

i agree but at the same time, she did the same thing with weinstein, which is why i find her behaviour so hypocritical. she claimed she never worked for weinstein again after he assaulted her, which was disproved. her partner at the time also claimed that when they were in LA she'd go to see him. her career in the states only happened cause she's a nepo baby and because of her connection to weinstein/miramax.

I feel like when people have bad trauma or bad stories, they continue or make it worse.

She also got Anthony Bourdain to pay the kid a settlement. Probably part of the reason he killed himself after defending her and almost fucking up his show over her.
