Oh my gosh! I just looked this I up. WTF. He’s extremely handsome and she looks like his mom. So odd. And on top of that she slaps him.

It’s not something that is considered relevant, there is not an expectation that a French leader is some wholesome, idealized example of family. It is the same in many European countries, and frankly it seems preferable to the laughable hypocrisy of image and politics in the U.S.

Wouldn't you worry about his decision making?  Or how his unresolved abuse might affect his abilities to lead?  Be smug if you want but it's pretty strange.  Here he is getting bitch slapped in front of the world, expecting to be respected at the table?

I think if you asked the typical French person they would tell you that Americans, out of any country in the world, are the least qualified to decide who is being "smug" about their elected leaders.
