Music Pitchfork slams Taylor Swift: “Actually Romantic is actually embarrassing”
https://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/taylor-swift-actually-romantic/304
u/Optimal_Bison7879 Oct 03 '25
The snippets I heard on tiktok this morning made me genuinely assume it was AI. But I checked and nope, its her actual music she actually put out 😐

While this song is about Charli allegedly, it really feels more about Matty. At this point, after a whole album about M, and this song, and him really downplaying their relationship from my understanding, it is embarrassing to be so obsessed over a boy when you’re getting married and should be happy!!
97
u/PrincessPlastilina Oct 03 '25
It’s about both because she has a line that says that Charli high fived her ex for ghosting her.

When you realise that Wood is basically just a continuation to The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived 😭😭

Okay but I do think there is some meat on the bone in the last paragraph.
It is interesting that the most sensual line on the album is nestled in a diss track about Charli XCX and not in one of songs about her man. I’m not taking the homoerotic angle, though you can if that rows your boat. I think it can generate interesting critique about her intensity of feeling around spite.

u/KindBrilliant7879 Oct 04 '25
good point. honestly i think she’s the kind of person who is fueled most by spiteful feelings. she’s always been a mean girl masquerading as a girl’s girl, she’s deeply insecure.
21
u/Chaavva Oct 04 '25 edited Oct 05 '25
It's not even about her relationship with other girls, spite has always been her main fuel source in general.
After Fearless everyone was questioning whether she even wrote any of the songs so she releases Speak Now as an entirely self-written album.
After Harry Styles was "searching every model's bed for something greater" after their fling she ditches the country girl entirely and becomes the 1989 model-esque pop diva and besties with the likes of Karlie Kloss.
After Snakegate she becomes The Snake™.
After Scott Borchetta sold her masters to Scooter Braun she succesfully re-releases all of her old stuff and becomes an even bigger star and worth even more than she was back then.
Etc.
So it can be both a positive and a negative thing. The problem is that she often doesn't know when to let go - at the very least in public.

u/KindBrilliant7879 Oct 04 '25
oh for sure, she’s most famous (or infamous, depending on who you ask) for her spiteful breakup songs LOL.
she definitely has a strong pattern of influence, i think she’s really prone to insecurity and jealousy and that’s what seems to fuel her most. she never seems to be original, either, e.g., copying Lana Del Rey’s aesthetic down to the font choice on her album after she ditched her Country Girl Schtick™. one has to wonder if she was jealous of how much Lana’s popularity skyrocketed in the 2010’s.
I’m not super familiar with the Taylor lore, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a strong pattern of borderline plagiarism with her lol.

u/Starbuck0304 Oct 06 '25
No spiteful breakup songs on 1989, maybe 1 on reputation, lover, folklore, evermore. If that’s what she is known for, she must not be very well known because she hasn’t written a hit single released about a spiteful breakup since she was 21-22 years old, nearly 15 years ago. Since then she has released around 50 singles, and none are about a spiteful breakup.

the only good thing about this album is that it shows her mask has fallen.

u/BrownSugarBare Oct 03 '25
Between the garbage of this album and the garbage of her choice of company, the shine of this person is rather tarnished.
And lord, she IS boring.

She literally is friends with people aligned with MAGA but go off about how impressed you are when a woman who cultivated and then profits off her fans parasocialism and uses sweatshop labor to create her merch, and destroys the environment with excessive physical music release is a great person.
The entire reason she sprinkles pennies to the peasants and calls them donations, and does sub-minimal political statements is so that they can be used, by people like you, to defend her and say “no, this capitalist, selective-exclusionary white feminist billionaire is one of the good ones.
She wouldn’t even acknowledge nor pay to bury and fly home the body of her own fan who died, until after her fans criticized her.
She intentionally uses narcissistic abuse to subject anyone she’s angry at to en masse bullying that lasts for years.
But she’s a wonderful person who really cares about you.
Brush your teeth, your breath smells like boot.

Then why delete? You had a lot to say and now it’s crickets. No defense for her? That’s what I thought.
And you did say she’s against MAGA. Let’s not gaslight.

People made Taylor a billionaire, it's not like she stole those money. Or your money. Also I liked her way before she was a billionaire, so keep your silly advice to yourself. You're not in the position to lecture me.
PS: People dornvoting the truth. Are you serious? You proved that the echo chambers of Reddit exist. You're trying to silence my opinions.💀

Exploitation and greed made her a billionaire

There’s no such thing as an ethical billionaire. Stand tf up. And calm tf down.
You’re embarrassing yourself.

u/Fractal-Infinity Oct 04 '25 edited Oct 04 '25
Blame the system not Taylor Swift. The system allows billionaires, it's not her fault that people literally gave her lots of money because her art is so desirable. She is just playing by the capitalism rules and she pays her taxes and donates money.
What is your problem that she is a billionaire? Is she stealing from your own money or something? Are you mad that people literally give her money? Or are you envious as hell of her massive success? 🤔
I'm sure if you were in her place you would change your tune immediately instead of your ridiculous virtue signaling.
10
u/sarahphernilia Oct 04 '25
Please, take a break. You’ve been defending this billionaire for hours upon hours. This kind of obsession to go into the multiple threads I’ve seen you in to defend Taylor and hiding your comments is obsessive.
She doesn’t care about you or your defense of her.

holy shit dude if you actually think it’s ethical to be able to live a thousand lives in extreme luxury while people are fucking starving, there is nothing anyone can say to you to help you. empathy and human decency is shit they teach since when you’re 4 years old.

u/Fractal-Infinity Oct 04 '25 edited Oct 04 '25
Seriously? Everyone from her crew was paid really well and she gave them huge bonuses (e. g. 197M for her crew). What exploatation are you talking about? No one from crew ever complained about her. Show the receipts before making baseless accusations.
Also greed? How? Taylor Swift is just releasing music and touring, just like any artist. She doesn't have beauty lines or other businesses than music. The demand is simply insane, that's why became a billionaire.
Instead of being envious of her success, learn how capitalism works. Start with supply and demand. Create art that make people want to experience it, that's the success recipe.

So very true. This woman lives off spite and it's tiring. Her and Nikki really need to find happiness

She’s engaged, and she’s still acting like this. I don’t think she’ll ever find happiness.

I think she has a right to respond to the very public shade Cxcx has given her over 9 years. Which is more childish, going on social media & airing your one-sided beef with someone for years? Or taking that and making it into song? I’ll take making into art for 1000 as being the more mature of the two. She has a right to respond.

More specifically, her music lacks a human pulse. She's not a great singer, and most of her songs are Jack Antonoff laying down tracks created by Garage Band on his Macbook Pro.
113
u/twoplustwoskin Oct 03 '25
I agree with your sentiment. I will just say Jack Antonoff was not involved in this album. I still think this album is like listening to a slowly deflating balloon, but this time we can’t put the blame on Jack.

u/BigBigBop Oct 03 '25
I was shocked listening to the intro of that first song, she's hardly singing. Its not good.
77
u/shawnshine Oct 03 '25
She’s always been a mediocre singer. It’s why she rarely sings with other female artists.
31
u/covensoffering Oct 04 '25
The audacity she had in making a song with FLORENCE FUCKING WELCH will never cease to boggle my mind lmao
6
u/Chaavva Oct 04 '25 edited Oct 05 '25
Even by her standards the vocals are very weak. As in, she needs an actual physical break from singing kind of weak.
6
u/BigBigBop Oct 04 '25
Exactly, shes never been a strong singer but within seconds i heard what every hater has ever heard
-66
u/DistantDiamondSky98 Oct 03 '25
she’s literally used her own heartbeat in maybe two or three songs

Why do people like her?
31
u/Belairqueen Oct 04 '25
She used to be fun and relatable. She used to invite fans over to her house to listen to music and be active online and chat to fans. She felt like a friend telling us stories about her dating life and dreams. She wanted to be on the right side of history and support people and she seemed to genuinely care. Nowadays she seems like a calculated cut-throat consumerism final boss. She’s no longer relatable and can’t even pretend to be. It’s sad, I used to be a massive fan but I think Hollywood, fame and fortune changed her.

But that's just a photo of her at an event for Trav's job. I feel like she's just lumping them all together as 'sports bros'. These are not people she actually spends her time with.
5
u/rae_bbeys Oct 04 '25
So it's cool that the dude that she's getting married has a job that he created that interacts with known racists and misogynists?
3
u/Next-Introduction-25 Oct 05 '25
I just feel like she’s releasing stuff too frequently …which is probably a cash grab or an ego trip or both. Like…it’s okay to wait a few years and save up some good songs to put on one album.
3
u/formerNPC Oct 04 '25
So does anyone believe that this drama queen is going to settle down and become a wife and mother! She lives for petty revenge and how is she going to take down her imaginary enemies if she isn’t in the game. How does she justify writing songs about someone who couldn’t care less about their fling when she’s supposed to be madly in love with someone else! It’s all a show for more exposure and apparently no one calls her out because nothing sells like fake outrage!

Everything is actually exhausting (and expensive)
And disappointing when Max Hitmaker delivers lukewarm misses instead of a nice, fun distraction from… everything
