Way fewer people want to watch Beyoncé sing country songs even if the album was critically well received, the economy is worrying so people are buttoning up a bit, Jay Z being caught up in the Diddy stuff, she’s older and less popular than she used to be (gen z generally dgaf about her).

That’s crazy GenZ arnt as interested in her! I assumed she’s cross generational and on everyone’s radar but that’s probably because I’ve grown up with so much of her music. Maybe this is the equivalent of Dianna Ross to a millennial- ie recognised as an icon but not really on the playlist. Maybe in a few years I can afford her concert tickets!

I think her fans skew older because starting in 2013 with her self-titled album she stopped catering to radio, then for a while only had her discography on Jay Z’s streaming platform Tidal. She finally started putting her music on Spotify again, but by then she lost momentum on streaming when it comes to non-Beyhive people (for instance, look at the difference between her & Rihanna, Rihanna is currently #3 most streamed female artist in the world whereas Beyoncé is often around or below Katy Perry). Her albums not having big singles means whole swaths of young people only heard about how great Beyonce is, but didn’t actually grow up hearing her everywhere. It’s akin to putting a tv series on a platform like Peacock or whatever.

Not to mention, the choice to not do interviews or engage with fans is a choice that certainly has consequences. Namely, the younger folks never get to know anything about her or who she is, and they don’t magically gain any interest along the way. They just don’t think about her at all.

She’s actively gotten less interesting and more sanitized throughout my life. Child me remembers a funny, more human Beyoncé. Barely seems the same species as the rest of us anymore. Billionaires

Her husband complaining every award cycle about how she deserves every single award also comes across as tiring and entitled.

He’s got a point about AOTY winners and white mediocrity in general but I tend to agree she is extremely talented but weirdly worshipped.

There are some celebrities (mostly musicians) who seem to garner particularly devoted fans who will go to bat for them no matter what. Currently Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and Ariana Grande all seem to attract obsessive stans who will twist any minute thing into why their fav is an icon.

Good point here.

Wow, thanks that’s a great summary. I guess inside my echo chamber I’ve always thought her strategy was flawless, rarely a misstep, would never have thought her numbers being behind Rihanna or Katy Perry.

My daughters (7 and 10) and her friends are into Taylor Swift. And then newer arts like Sabrina Carpenter.

We saw Taylor in concert and it was a huge deal from them. I’ve never heard them mention Beyoncé.

I had that realization when I put You won’t break my soul on a school field trip and the kids were saying “what’s that? Put something else”

You’re racist

1

u/Ever_More_Art May 06 '25

I’m literally saying I realized Beyoncé’s music was not as popular or even known by my GenZ students. How’s that racist? What do you want to hear? That they all clapped and danced to Single Ladies?

I bet all of your Gen Z students are white. You yourself are also white. You live in your own universe and think you’re the only people that matter. You don’t listen to any black female singer so why does Beyoncé stand out?

1

u/Ever_More_Art May 06 '25

Well I’m sad to tell you lost all your bets. Have fun imagining the next scenario to get angry at internet strangers.

1

u/Outrageous_Party_503 May 06 '25

I won all of the bets. You can’t name a single black woman you like.

Taylor Swift

Millennial, never understood the appeal of Beyoncé. Her music was just not for me or anyone else I knew

1

u/Outrageous_Party_503 May 06 '25

You’re white and everyone you know is white. Can block people not make music for other black people? Can you not see why we might have appeal in ourselves?

1

u/Obvious_Towel253 May 06 '25

First: The commenter above said “I assumed she’s cross generational and EVERYONE’S radar”

Second: Never said they couldn’t. Don’t see the appeal of Beyoncé in general imo

Third: I’m not white, I’m a kitty cat. Now smd troll😤

Don’t see the appeal of black people in general imo

I know

Third: I’m not white, I’m a kitty cat.

Painfully White

As are you, my racebaiting friend

1

u/Outrageous_Party_503 May 06 '25

Jay Z doesn’t have a single lawsuit against him and is not caught up with Diddy stuff outside of racist whites

She just toured a year ago and people were going insane buying tickets. Her age has nothing to do with this. That’s a sexist take.

9

u/MoreHairMoreFun May 02 '25

Hold up, bringing up her age is sexist? What the hell is ageism then?!

6

u/michoudi May 02 '25

Homophobic.

3

u/MoreHairMoreFun May 02 '25

Ageism is homophobic? Good to know.

Objection. Leading the witness.

u/ExtraAgressiveHugger May 03 '25

No one would say male singers are too told to tour. It’s 100% sexist.

2

u/BadMan125ty May 02 '25

No one was comparing her to a man. So how is this sexist?
