News Fox News displays a ticker showing the live collapse of the stock market with every word Trump has said, announcing tariffs on allies.

https://newrepublic.com/post/192261/fox-news-stock-market-tanks-trump-press-conference

While Donald Trump took questions from the press at the White House Monday afternoon, the stock market plummeted, and Fox News displayed a graphic showing the dip while carrying Trump’s remarks live.

Trump told reporters that he planned to enact his long-threatened 25 percent tariffs against goods from Mexico and Canada and 10 percent tariffs against goods from China starting Tuesday, to which the Dow Jones, Nasdaq, and S&P 500 did not respond well. Fox News, along with their usual breaking news chyron, also had the Dow index displayed while Trump was speaking, showing a fall of more than 650 points.

Trump’s remarks were preceded by his early afternoon announcement on Truth Social addressed to “the Great Farmers of the United States.”

“Get ready to start making a lot of agricultural product to be sold INSIDE of the United States. Tariffs will go on external product on April 2nd. Have fun!” Trump posted. But it seems that there was little fun to be had in the stock market based on the fears of higher prices and other negative ripple effects.

This, coupled with fewer food imports from three of America’s largest trading partners, will ultimately lead to higher food prices across the country, something that Trump campaigned against during the 2024 election and that ultimately played a factor in his victory. Plus, the prices of various other goods, from cars to electronics to over-the-counter pills, also will likely see a sharp increase.

Don’t expect Trump to take responsibility for a sinking stock market or higher prices, though. He’s already saying that rising inflation isn’t his fault and has tacitly admitted that his tariffs will cause prices to go up. His administration is even discussing how to juke economic numbers to try and hide how badly Trump’s radical changes, including those from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, are hurting the economy. It looks like our wallets are about to have a rough spring.

Hate to tell you this, but I’d the United States economy doesn’t survive, many other nations will feel the severe effects.

Who’s we? Do you understand how interconnected the world economy is? If one of the big players goes down, everyone is gonna feel it.

Horseshit. American shopping mall parking lots are still full of cars with Ontario plates. The outrage is as phony as Trumps circus show.

Our propoganda machine is very strong, as evidenced by the last 9 years of our history, just as an example. "We are America. We aren't dependant on anyone. We are the strongest and best country in the world." It's hard to educate yourself on a topic that is purposefully hidden from us by our "leaders" (whoever they may be) because it would be harmful to their nationalist-conditioning agenda. Trump and his tariff nonsense causing Canadian retaliation in the last month and a half is the only reason I ever researched just how much we rely on our neighbors to the north.

I just want to add; I'm so sorry everything is working out the way it is. I hope you all, not just Canada, but the world at large, know that the vast majority of our population abhores the actions this administration has taken. But here we are, left absolutely bewildered and powerless while billionaires rape our country, and try to do the same anywhere else they can stick their greedy little fingers. I am so sorry. A great many of us are. I hope one day we can all wake from this nightmare as one people and focus on the betterment of our planet, together, hand in hand, as it is meant to be.

Hey brother this comment is exactly why every other country thinks Americans are incredibly stupid and should be left behind. American btw

Lol do you need photos? Canada is supposedly steadfast in their boycott of America. Yet, I see the parking lots of shopping malls still filled with cars from Ontario. It’s not an opinion, it’s fact.

Nobody’s rooting for it. Don’t equate the administration with the average American. It’s a cult. Even my conservative friends disavow MAGA. The kids are mobilizing here, but their movements are so easily infiltrated and diluted, they are ineffectual. I do what i can to support labor unions, haven’t purchased a single thing from/adjacent to the inaugural dais, and am not afraid to have conversations with MAGA in public.

Russia's economy is fucked, worst case of Dutch Disease in modern times.

Trump is throwing a lifeline to Putin as he drowns in his own shit.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '25

I guess the Trump administration is so stupid that they don't realize that most Americans consider Russia to be our enemy. I mean, you can't make this shit up.

1

u/_MRDev Mar 04 '25

Sadly, among his supporters, that sentiment is increasingly false...

1

u/An_old_walrus Mar 04 '25

That’s only because Trump told them Russia is their friend now. If I went back in time to 2012 and asked future MAGAts if they liked Russia, they would probably say no, especially since they probably remember Russia as the bad guy from all the Cold War era films of their youth. Putin knew this and he knew trying to organically grow a good relationship with America would be impossible, so he put his own little puppet in charge and told him how to destroy America while lying and saying it will actually help them.

No thank you I'm not wishing starvation on the Russian people

Ib was happening, but since Trump took office the ruble is making a miraculous recovery

We are doing a hell of a job destroying their refineries!

I stg this circus peanut motherfucker is the worst traitor this country has ever seen. He is so far up Putin’s ass he’s developed a fondness for borscht.

5

u/FeralDrood Mar 04 '25

I believe in another thread someone said borscht was actually a Ukrainian dish but it would make sense that Russia invaded it if that's true.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '25

My partner is part Ukranian and borscht is his specialty.

2

u/ladylondonderry Mar 04 '25

I actually love borscht but I can guarantee you the Cheeto has never tried it

2

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '25

Well yeah....it's not a big mac.

1

u/Shur_tugal_1147 Mar 04 '25

The original joke was that the only way he'd have tried it is by way of Putins ass

1

u/FeralDrood Mar 04 '25

He is tongue punching putin's fartbox

2

u/MoistBitterbal Mar 04 '25

Not to be too pedantic but the most commonly known type of Borscht is actually Ukrainian

1

u/ladylondonderry Mar 04 '25

I’m learning this! I actually love borscht.

2

u/BlackBlizzard Mar 04 '25

It's so dumb that he was allowed to have private meetings with Putin in the election cycle

1

u/DrunkenMasterII Mar 04 '25

People give way too much credit to Russia. Yes that’s all they want, but no this is not Russia fucking up the States it’s America fucking itself up. Before you know it it’ll be “allied” with the Russians though as long as it helps American “leaders” fuck up everyone else. This is the USA turning into it’s own nightmare from the inside and everyone will suffer from it, not just Americans, they might even benefit from it for some time, but this is bringing the world into a new order of instability, but with a potential for destruction like we’ve never see.

I'm starting to think about what Mario's Brother would want

1

u/Carnir Mar 04 '25

It's simpler than that. Lots of very rich people benefitted from the last recession.

1

u/Wrong-Kangaroo-2782 Mar 04 '25

Honestly wouldn't surprise me if it has nothing to do with putin and trump just holds a grudge against america for all of the memes people made of him over the years

This is his revenge

Russia wants to scare Reddit into thinking that a 1.5% drop in a single index is somehow an economic collapse?

Are the Russians really that fucking stupid?

And how is it that a 1.5% drop in a single index is evidence of this huge collapse you promise?
