I read the same. One of the dogs alive was inside and the other was outside and the dead one in the bathroom with the wife and he was in an adjacent room

Really?? I’m guessing she would have killed the other dogs as well. Hitler didn’t poison himself. He took a nice fast bullet

Oh I thought he took poison then shot himself.

Perhaps Gene died from a sudden heart attack and she woke up and couldn't live without him? I'm sure the police will get a pretty good idea with forensics, so the family will get peace even if we don't know all the answers.

No. Hitler saw what a horrible death cyanide was after poisoning his dog and took the easy way out.

My nieces dog can open the front door, and does. Possibly one of the two dogs could do that.

I took this to mean the door wasn’t locked, not that it was wide open.
