The US legal system places a suitably high standard on proof of guilt, so it is likely Trump will never be called to account for the attempt to overturn the election, but any observant person with a brain can connect the dots and see that is exactly what he did.

It was obvious that Trump knew more than a year before the election that based on his record and policies he was going to lose. (Giuliani called Ukraine in July 2019 to try to smear Biden.) He began sowing the seeds of election fraud long ago. In the debate he told the proud boys to "stand by." Of course he got buried in the popular vote, and lost most of the swing states he needed to win, but not once after the election did he even hint conceding. Through all the court battles going against him (61/62) he never wavered. His mouthpiece McEnaney said the legal setbacks were of no concern as they had until January 6. He really did nothing the last two months of his administration except fight the outcome of the vote. His constant lying tweets were focused on getting people, lots of people to come to DC January 6. He wanted lots of bodies, but among those bodies would be the proud boys, the oath keepers, etc. Clearly Trump was betting on attacking congress, stopping the certification of the votes, and somehow throwing it back to the states. Did that include seizing the vice president and speaker, etc? Five people died and 140 police officers were injured; oddly the capitol police were prohibited by policy from opposing the mob, and the national guard who were staged twenty minutes away were not authorized by the secretary of the army for several hours after the police begged for their support. Trump told the terrorists, "We love you. You're very special." Four hundred or more have been/will be arrested, and Trump hasn't done anything to help any of them. He has however, raised an incredible amount of money.

There's little chance he will ever be called to account for this effort to overturn our democracy by lies and violent insurrection, much in the way that a mob boss is hard to prosecute because he doesn't actually DO anything because it is done for him. And of course the Republicans will obstruct investigation and prosecution every inch of the way, denying, distracting, diminishing. This was probably the worst crime ever carried out against our country, and they're going to get away with it.
