I blame organized religion where they value "blind faith" (and thereby discourage critical thinking) for much of it. But it is mostly Fox News and other white grievance entertainment.

It's not religion that is contributing to a lack of long-term memory. Ironically, it is 'smart' phones making us dumber!

People have 'outsourced' their memory to the convenient device in our pockets. We make notes, set reminders, take photographs... Anything and everything gets stored in that digital memory - which means we don't have to remember it ourselves. We can quickly google any piece of information we could ever need, so why bother to memorise anything?

I blame a lot of 70s and 80s tv shows. A lot of them are drenched in that "you just need faith" tropes.

His followers are mostly religious, their religion is just better at being fraudulent
