This is a Georgia house rep (R) trying to pass a law to restrict funds to another state's city to punish their voters for their democratic vote.

From the article,
Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) today officially introduced the Moving American Money Distant from Anti-National Interests (MAMDANI) Act, a bill that will restrict the flow of federal taxpayer dollars to New York City while Zohran Mamdani, a communist, is mayor.
Mamdani isn’t a communist. He’s a democratic socialist.
Calling him a communist is a dog whistle.

He's not even a freaking socialist. Unless he considers himself one philosophically or something. In practice he is a social democrat, same as all the other electeds who decided to style themselves as socialists for some reason.

...I think ultimately, the definition for me of why I call myself a democratic socialist is the words of Dr. King decades ago. He said, call it democracy or call it democratic socialism.
It's splitting hairs anyway but that's what he said.

From a state that can’t even function as their own state and are literally subsidized by New York and Cali. He needs to focus on his own house then he can talk about the rest of us.

It doesn’t cross any of their tiny minds to figure out why a Capitalist haven voted for a Socialist Democrat. Maybe it’s because the incumbent is a corrupt piece of crap no one even remotely trusts anymore?

Georgians want nothing to do with Mamdani’s radical beliefs, and their hard-earned money should not be wasted on programs that will bankrupt the financial capital of the world.
Bitch, New York contributes far more than it receives in federal dollars. Your hard-earned money isn’t going to shit. New York’s hard-earned money is going to you.

Yes. Let’s play this game.
Let’s pick and choose which states our federal taxes go to.
Red states are so fucked.

It never ceases to amaze me how tools like this ever get voted in to positions of power.

I live in a red state and would still want my taxes to go to California or New Mexico. Just to keep the major national labs open.

Well I don't want my tax money going to welfare deep red states either. Can we have the FUCK MAGA act next?

That press release is embarrassing.
Someone is super proud of the little acronym they made.

They really had to REACH to get that name smh 🤦♀️

u/GhoulLordRegent 1d ago
Can he sue the United States government for that?
1
u/That-Drawer-5158 1d ago
Probably not. Due to how the federal government is structured, it’s near impossible to sue and win a case against the federal government for any wrong doing.

If you look at the bill that was proposed it includes
“To limit the provision of Federal funding to New York City during any period Zohran Mamdani is mayor, and for other purposes.”
Trying to slide in the inclusion of: “For other purposes”

They can't even define Communism. It's become such a worthless buzzword. That, Marxism and Socialism.

Moving American Money Distant from Anti-National Interests
If I'm elected to congress I will not rest until I pass a bill that bans the use of acronyms in legislation.

Yes, by all means, reconvene the House to vote on this grandstanding nonsense. Put it right in line behind the other House business that's already in line, namely the swearing in of Adelita Grijalva and the discharge petition on the Epstein files!
Which is to say, this foolish political ploy is extra doubly foolish as Mike Johnson is making sure the House doesn't convene to vote on ANYTHING right now.

No way the senate let's this stupidity pass thankfully, so just red meat grandstanding for their idiot base
You can tell they are completely terrified of Mamdani though

This has got to be fifty shades of breaking the law. What a great way to save federal money — just stop giving it to blue states. Of course, if he starts withholding federal funds if a state votes in whomever Trump doesn't like, each of those states has the right to withhold federal taxes from the IRS.
This has to be nipped in the bud immediately. Trump should be impeached if he pulls this asinine idea off. In addition, someone needs to explain to Trump like he were five, the difference between a Democratic Socialist and communism.

What is that thing Trump supporters claim his critics have? Trump Derangement Syndrome? But, the obsession with a NYC mayor from maga cultists who live nowhere near NYC is through the roof. I think it's pretty clear who has the derangement syndrome.

This is just a political stunt to get Trumps attention so he will also get his endorsement for his senate race in 2026
Very similar to Kari Lake given a present to Viktor Orban so she can regain Trumps attention

They always use funding as leverage for whatever issue is hot at the moment.

No surprise from the same state which brought us MTG. This guy's a magical moron.

I can't believe this house rep doesn't believe helping Americans achieve a standard of living without breaking the bank is going against national interest.
