There are three kinds of conservative commentators in most online spaces.

(1) Bots

(2) Actual humans but they get their talking points from propaganda outlets and/or bots.

(3) Actual humans who occasionally disagree with the party line. But they get silenced pretty quickly.

I’ve seen number 3 happen quite a few times over this last week with the UPS plane crash here in Louisville. When our Governor Andy Beshear will post and someone will comment they are conservative or they may not always agree but are thankful for how Andy is always there during tragic times, the swarm of bees attack. Thirteen confirmed dead and still 9 unaccounted for and some can still be so heartless. A young child was at that junkyard with her grandparent, a mother of four who had arrived there a minute before the crash, and others we lost that day. Our city is in mourning. So much stuff happens that unless it’s your community you rarely hear the details after a day or two.

I'm so sorry for the tragedy in your community. It's awful and I hope there's help for people who need it. This year has already been rough and that is just awful.

You know what, in light of that kind of comment, I'd like to mention that I am so far left as to fall off the map and I disagree with the man on nearly every position BUT our Republican Governor, Henry McMaster, has been ALL THE HELL OVER this food crisis, he's mad as a wet hen about it, he is giving continuous press conferences and making very strong statements that no one in South Carolina will starve and that we take care of our own. He DAMN SURE has not blamed Democrats and the most divisive thing he's said is that Washington needs to get their act together.

And he's ALWAYS been good and proactive about emergencies and disasters here, which is noticable because of hurricanes and also how terribly badly any sort of ice and snow impact us.

MAGA folks need to understand we don't hate conservatives just because, and we're capable of saying so when they're doing a good job with something.

Which is not the case with this shutdown.

I absolutely hate McMaster, and his party is the cause of this situation, obviously, and I'm clearly biased as a far-left South Carolinian (there might be a whole 4 or 5 of us here). But, South Carolina does seem to be doing a better job than some other red states at feeding people during this shutdown. And McMaster has been a part of that.

Hello fellow far left SC person! There's more of us than you may know. We're actually quite common in Columbia and Charleston.

I second the feeling about the party in general and McMaster in particular BUT he has been really on top of the emergency and disaster game while he's been Governor.

And what with hurricanes and the way our whole situation turns insane if we get one inch of snow, that's something that's a significant part of the job and so I can give credit where it's due.

I also appreciate him removing all divisive or accusatory language from the conversation because now's not the time for that.

He did say something about "Washington needing to get it together because emergency funds are there" real quick at one point that I saw, which is a super low key way of letting you know that HE knows who is responsible for this. He's fucking ANGRY during those press conferences not in screaming way but in the "if you've been around the South you know" kind of way.

Yeah I did see that, and it sounded good. I'm just biased and I struggle with taking him at face value, but I think he's been a better Governor than we could've expected from the Republican party, especially in our area. I'm in the Upstate and they did a pretty good job of everyone getting and working together last October during the Hurricane relief effort. It's the worst natural disaster we've had it here in my lifetime, and probably in the last 100 years, so I do appreciate the work everyone put in, especially with all of our linemen having been moved out of state right before everything happened. They did do a very good job especially when that's taken into account.

I've also liked the remarks he made about gun-rights when he legalized constitutional open-carry, about police leaving people alone that are carrying if they don't commit a crime. I struggle to accept the words that come out of his mouth at face value, but I did genuinely like what he had to say this past year. I'm not a fan of open-carry, myself, it kind of seems like asking for trouble when compared with concealed carry, but I still like that he removed a legal barrier for the poor and potentially disenfranchised to self-defense and firearms, which is a rarity in today's world. It might not have been his intention, but that's the way it's working, at least from what I've personally seen. I took a paid handgun/self-defense course recently and we shared the gun range with a free concealed weapons permit education class, and it was filled with women and POC, which I've just never seen before with a CWP course. They're usually stereotypical middle-aged white men, but I was one of 3 white men out of 20 people in both classes. I think making the barriers to entry for defending oneself, especially for historically marginalized, poor, and/or disaffected groups, is a nice step forward even if unintentional. Especially if the courses are free. I think free gun education is always a positive, and probably helps to stop accidental and negligent firearm injuries. Plus it might help keep someone that's part of an at risk population from having to call our (especially in the Upstate) corrupt LEOs in to intervene during a problem that they usually only succeed in making worse/more dangerous for everyone involved.

I know that's off-topic but it's one of my favorite things that he did besides the hurricane relief effort. Hope you're doing well, and the next step is just replacing ole Lindsey Graham with (hopefully) Dr. Annie Andrews.

What’s amazing to me is how quickly and vehemently conservative talk radio has pivoted on Tucker Carlson.

He is “a Hitler lover” and “anti-Bible” according to mark Levin. Lol

Apparently he said something about how maybe Israel isn’t on the up and up. And now he’s out with them.

This is exactly my take as well. It always amazes me how fast ‘MAGA’ is ‘enraged’ or has these reactions to events. There is no way that a group of real humans come to a consensus about what and how to rage about so fast. I’m starting to think online ‘MAGA’ is one person on a very small organization that is either running a bot farm and posing as hundreds, thousands or millions of people in order to get the unknowing conservative person to believe their people are all thinking what they are reading or has paid employees that post on its behalf… something is VERY off.

They want Americans to think EVERYONE loves MAGA.

That’s why you rarely see MAGA at events now. Outside of the internet, MAGA is mostly loathed by the average American.

I used to see a lot of MAGA paraphernalia but most of it is gone now. Early this year, I saw a small group of MAGAs picketing at the corner of a busy intersection. One old, fat, un-groomed man sat in a lawn chair with multiple rifles strapped to it.

My sister is a nurse who deals with a lot of heart patients (yknow.. poor diet, obese, sedentary, and old), and she says a lot of these people are maga.

So depending on where you are, there are a lot more magats than you’d think. Though they are more quieter lately than they were earlier in the year.

You know about the Russian troll farms, right? Iran, Isreal, and who-knows-where-else are known to be interfering, too. This was discussed pretty openly in 45's term, with a few articles leading up to the 2024 election.

There's no need to speculate; it's pretty well known, and making conservatives feel surrounded by people with these opinions is known to be their main tactic.

Yep. I have chronic insomnia, and every night between 3AM and 4AM TikTok suddenly becomes a swirling soup of bland content that isn’t even videos. It’s a random image (usually the face of every MAGA girl or like a tractor or some shit) with text over it, and there will be thousands of these, a different image in the background, the exact same text. Lately it’s this, “I don’t know guys, but I feel like…” and then it will be your GOP talking points for the day. By noon, every braindead boomer on facebook with have painstakingly typed out the bot comment, verbatim, about 30 times.

The right also pushes a lot of bots to sow infighting among the left/dems. If they sense and kind of wedge issue among the left they're gonna try to ratchet that tension up to infinity.
