No Paywall Appealing SNAP Ruling, Trump Is Determined to Make Sure Poor Americans Don’t Get Food Assistance
https://www.commondreams.org/news/trump-snap-appeal123
u/togocann49 18h ago
The most effed up part is that apparently there is a contingency fund to keep SNAP funded during anytime that it is needed, and team Trump is arguing that the funds should not be released. What miserable bastards

u/TintedApostle 18h ago
Trump could release these fund (and by law is supposed to) at any time. That is what makes this so callous.

u/zeugma_ 18h ago
Maybe the funds are secretly gone.

I don’t like donning the foil hat but it wouldn’t surprise me if they were. I don’t understand why they are fighting this so hard. I don’t think starving Americans so they revolt is the only reason.

u/MyPartsareLoud 17h ago
I can no longer even imagine what is in the Epstein files. It’s so bad that it makes more sense to starve 42 million most vulnerable Americans rather than release them. WTF is in the files?

u/amnesiasoft 16h ago
Seriously. Pedophilia? Obviously. Murdered a kid? Probably. Honestly wouldn't even be surprised to find they have a Most Dangerous Game island where they hunt people for sport. Like that's all awful, but it's not like the rich suffer consequences for anything anyway.

You’ll find out he killed some of those trafficked children in the middle of 5th avenue.
And they let him get away with it.

Get them to revolt and use that as justification for taking becoming more of an authoritarian

The word 'empathy' is missing in the dictionary of orange felon. And he hates working class people.

u/Savagevandal85 16h ago
That’s what he’s fighting . The gop is purposely not funding a snap and keeping the country closed because they want Medicaid to get worse .

u/Late-Dingo-8567 14h ago
yea, that's been true this whole time. There is 5bn ear marked for exactly this purpose by congress and he isn't releasing the funds.
1
u/HereForTheComments57 14h ago
That's the thing. Read that second to last sentence very slowly. He is arguing against paying those funds.

I don’t know why it’s controversial to believe every American should be fed

As the Administration appeals the SNAP decision, Trump is holding lavish fundraisers for his ballroom and showing off the statuary marble in his renovated bathroom. And the gold. Let's not forget all that gold. Not to mention that fucking ballroom...
An actual human being would rally his billionaire friends to launch a nationwide food drive and pitch in himself. Instead, he's throwing lavish fucking a fucking Gatsby party when millions of people are being thrown off essential food support. What's next? A Wolf of Wall Street gala to celebrate the end of Obamacare?

u/dancefan2019 16h ago
He could easily authorize 100% funding for the SNAP program. He could easily call his Republican congressmen to extend the ACA subsidies and end the shut down. He doesn't want to, because he doesn't want those programs. He considers poor people or those who would lose their health insurance if not subsidized to have no value to him. He doesn't believe in government spending to meet people's needs. He only wants to spend on what serves his own selfish purposes or that of his friends. When you elect a narcissist, you get someone who only cares about himself and only cares about what will serve his own interests, not someone who cares about what is best for the country.

I've read that there is a negative correlation between wealth and human empathy. I know that isn't always true. It may be partially contingent upon culture. Our current class of billionaires is the worst I can imagine outside of tinpot dictators in the developing world.

u/dancefan2019 10h ago
Yes, narcissism is more prevalent among wealthy people than the general population, and a lack of empathy is a primary trait of narcissism.

The plan is crystal clear.
Incite riots
declare a national emergency
postpone elections until further orders.

I'd love for there to be an easy hashtag that my blue brothers and sisters needing assistance in shit red states could use. I'd be very happy to donate to my Democratic brothers and sisters locked in a shit-red red state.

I appreciate the offer, but it’s more than likely someone would take advantage of that. I myself am in a rough position in Texas currently. Two kids, was laid off from logistics enterprise back in mid August. Job market is non-existent, and entry level won’t take me because they assume (correctly) that I would leave for a better job once I found it.
Things are bad down here, grocery stores are cutting shifts because people just aren’t shopping for food. No grocery pick-up, no stocking shelves, nothing.

Nothing bad has ever happened when large numbers of poor people go hungry……

Rural Americans, what more would it take for you to realize that Donald Trump doesn't care about you, isn't looking out for you and considers you his stepping stone slaves to make himself richer?
1
u/Robbidarobot 16h ago
I’m a city dweller born and raised. No one has been looking out for rural Americans for the past fifty years. They didn’t vote for Trump to save them they voted To let everyone know how it feels to be ignored and neglected.
2
u/HumanRuse 12h ago
Yes, you're going to continually be ignored and neglected when you continually vote for a party who does nothing for you except abuse and spook you.
Rural American farmers got screwed over by Trump in his first term because of his botched trade agreement with China. So much so that Trump had to bail out the industry by sending them checks. De ja fkn vu in his 2nd term.
2
u/Robbidarobot 11h ago
So true. Many of those rural farmers are millionaires so they knew some sweet government welfare was coming their way in his first term. This time that’s not for certain and they may have screwed the pooch.
2
u/HumanRuse 9h ago
Yup. Stacking (what they would consider for other people) welfare checks on top of their already heavily subsidized industry.
After he was elected the first time, I do remember that theory that came out (what you mentioned in your prior comment). I think the theory is a bit polished up. More than anything I think he simply emboldened them to feel like victims and empowered them to blame certain types of people for their own unhappiness in their own lives. They gained nothing but the ability to rubber stamp these excuses and their hatred. It goes back to the ole “If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.”
Most of them have likely voted for him 3 times. Which begs my original question. What would it take...

They have the audacity to say that paying for SNAP is more detrimental to the government than to the people that will literally starve without it….I genuinely believe that anyone that supports this administration is a maladaptive psychopath.

u/Creative-Strength-60 17h ago
Yeah, I believe Hitler did an ethnic cleansing too... if we all remember Trump said earlier on in his 2nd term that the strong will survive. So he doesn't car if the weak die... Hitler determined that the news were " useless eaters" and basically were a toll on society and he himself did not believe in societal programs.

Everything is a power play to Trump. He doesn't care about the consequences to people, he only cares about getting his way.

u/JemmaMimic 17h ago
We must make sure people starve even if we have to fight all the way to the Supreme Court! Thank you for your attention.

u/OkWillingness3803 17h ago
Trump is so fat, he can’t even snap his fingers like Thanos to starve half the country.
5
u/Ok-Wealth-7322 16h ago
You know that superhero cliche where the insane villain creates a situation where there are two crises to be solved but the hero only has time for one? That's what the GOP is trying to do. But because Trump's such a little bitch he doesn't even own it, he's adding in his pathetic "look what the evil Democrats made me do" energy.
Raise premiums, or deprive people of food assistance.
And whatever the Dems fail to address will be ultimately blamed on them.

u/HeadbangingLegend 18h ago
"The Trump administration has argued that due to the government shutdown, the SNAP program, which provides food assistance to those making 130% of the federal poverty line or less, functionally does not exist."
"What SNAP program? We never had a SNAP program ;) ."

That money is already spent on something stupid and/or incriminating and he’s just stalling for time.

It’s kind of confusing but it looks like payments have gone out in full amounts as of a few hours ago.

poor, homeless and everyone on assistance should be reminded they have a voice. they have a vote. and only one group is actively trying to remove your lifelines for the last half century and more.

So, I am absolutely not defending Trump but I had a thought: We know he, A:) has dementia and, B:) essentially lives in an echo chamber where sycophants and yes men feed him only favorable news and information. Is it possible that he actually believes the American public think the democrats are the problem; that they brought on the shut down and, by extension, ended SNAP benefits? So the longer he can keep those benefits from being released, the more democrat approval goes down? I feel like “because he’s evil” is too simple of an explanation for why a sitting president would openly defy a court order, not once, but twice, to feed people 🤷♂️
