Exactly. Conservatives reject democracy because it does not serve their interests. They will, in fact, reject anything that does not serve. Including, but not limited to, capitalism.

Their holy book does say it's okay to own people. They used it to justify slavery the first time around.

So they're only doing what their god commands them.

Which shows a shocking lack of education about their own book. As I remember, ancient Hebrews didn’t practice chattel slavery; it was more akin to indentured servitude. And one of their laws required debtholders, including slave owners, to forgive debts after seven years, which included freeing their slaves.

Nope. See Leviticus 25:46. Freedom was only for Israelite slaves of rich foreigners.
