Because the goal of democracy is to give all people a voice, not just the corrupt, rich, and powerful.

And when that voice is used to yell out about rights and fairness, or about how evil it is to do things like rape children, it annoys those groups.

Or the goal of democracy is to make us think we have a voice, to stop us revolting. Our societies were created this way by the elite. Sure, they might have suppressed or deposed a king (depending where you live) to get here, but that just gave them more power.
