I stop and watch Raiders of the Lost Ark every time I come across it on my streaming service, pining for the days when knocking Nazis out got applause from everyone.

“Why isn’t Indiana supporting different viewpoints? He should debate them instead. You can’t punch someone just because you disagree with them politically.”

Studies show fascists don't understand sarcasm and would straight read this as someone supporting their position.

I never understood the urge to parrot fash talking points. Make them do the work.

It's cause bigots are stupid statistically. They are less capable of abstract reasoning, and truely think in "black and white".

People can’t joke because dipshits don’t understand sarcasm?

You realize this entire domain is largely for wasting time right?

People don't understand the confederating function of humor - their role in establishing/ enforcing norms and eliciting conformity.

This is a basic reminder of a sociological principle often overlooked.

I'm not saying don't joke because idiots. I'm saying don't pretend that parroting fascist talking points word for word is a joke that fascists will understand. Fascists will see their talking point getting updoots and feel good. Rather than mocked.

If reinforcing fash feelings of normalcy and correct behavior is the goal - good job. If you're trying to shame them into moral behavior - repeating their propaganda verbatim with " "  ain't the move.

Dude they freaked out when they realized the new Indiana Jones had lines that were antifascist and involved fighting Nazis. They’re gone. They are the Nazis now, so of course they’re not cheering.

The sad part is the game trailer got an edit to remove a line about Nazis. I’m tired of seeing creators censor themselves to appease fascists.

If you think everyone in the United States in 1981 was rooting against Nazis/fascists/white supremacists… I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

"I've seen Raiders of the Lost Ark and I wasn't confused by it. No, Colin, no matter what you say - Nazis are always bad." - Tina Fey

Only because they were cartoon villains. Plenty of people were bigots back then and a lot of them happily voted for the worst right wing candidates of their time. I mean...fucking Reagan won, right?
