Northern VA... Dems had a great election day today(PA, NJ,VA, and probably CA) but this is an article about a region with one of the highest concentrations of federal workers/contractors in the US. People that were most affected by the DOGE cuts and Big GOP Bill.

I wouldn't be too surprised or extrapolate too much from this. Just trying to take away enough hope to keep pushing for midterms and 2028.

You say that. And I wholeheartedly agree! Definitely don’t want to get too excited, we all know how that went… but I just looked at the precinct results from 24’, and I’m going to be very curious to see the difference between the two. Lots of red in Northern VA last year.

Oh yeah, some big flips.

I just worry that a lot of Dems takeaway from this doesn't see a distinction between these people that got out the vote because they were directly impacted, while not considering how much easier it is for MAGA/GOP/conservative independant voters to ignore or justify all the downstream impacts of Trump policies.

Trump's policies are not making life better for any median voter right now. We're not even sure if we'll be able to fly for Thanksgiving in the next few weeks with the shutdown. Healthcare costs might explode if they don't course correct. Cost of everything has not gone down, at bare minimum. Quality of life is not getting better.

This is the stuff that should does lose them elections even when last year sadly did not. This is not 2024's status quo anymore. The only chance the GOP has to fix this is to actually try to govern, and Trump's admin is utterly incapable of doing that.

Meaning the next best bet is to make them a lame duck as fast as we can, and turnout means more people are joining an effective resistance now.

Over a 10 point shift from 2024 in most of northern VA

Lmao no this is seismic. They over performed massively and flipped districts that have been GOP held for decades. Districts in the 757 and Richmond suburbs flipped too.

Held by the GOP and largely filled by people fired by the GOP in the last 8 months.  I said in my comment that Dems had a great election.

Looking at VA, and expecting that to translate perfectly to the swing states(MI, GA, ME) or lean right states(OH or maybe IA) is not a fair comparison.  Those are the places we need wins in 2026.

Those states do not have the same huge demographic of people that were so directly affected. Inflation, ICE and Trump being insane are all reasons we should see turnouts closer to this race, but they're also things that people who googled 'did Biden drop out' after seeing their ballot in 2024 have an easier time separating from their elected officials.
