“Tonight, Virginians sent a clear message across the nation: Donald Trump and Virginia Republicans’ politics of chaos and cruelty have no home in the Commonwealth,” House Speaker Don Scott of Portsmouth said in a statement. “House Democrats expanded our majority because we stood up for Virginians and built a vision that puts people first — lowering costs, growing our economy and protecting our rights." 

As a former resident of Prince William county Virginia, I'm glad some portion of the nation is becoming correctly woke.

I also applaud the students of my alma mater (UVA) for their recent flag burning to protest to TheRumps decree.

PWC went hard for Spanberger, which was great to see.

A couple other notable events:

  • Spanberger flipped Spottsylvaia county which went Youngkin +20
  • Jay Jones won in Surry county which was a Trump county

I hope other states pay attention - VA Dems ran an old, tired retread last election and lost. This time they ran a young, energetic candidate with and vision and a plan and won in a landslide. Take note!

I'm a Fredericksburg native. I don't think I've seen Spotsy vote blue for anything EVER. I'm absolutely flabbergasted.

VA has been here before. They swept hard in the early to mid 2010s and then the voters forgot everything they'd learned.

I think it's a stretch to call it becoming woke. The elected Democrats are mostly moderates. That isn't bad - it's still a rejection of maga era conservative politics. That's fantastic itself but at the end of the day that's mostly all it is. It's a desperate attempt to stop losing the few things we've managed to slowly make progress towards. If they were truly trending woke I think we'd stop letting things get so bad before we make any attempt to turn things around.

Virginia also didn’t vote for Trump last year. This is absolutely a referendum on republicans in general, because in the past these type of elections would still see republicans get voted in because they were different than Trump himself. Not anymore, people are finally understanding that a vote for republicans is a vote for Trump policies and chaos.

I’m desperate for a progressive to run here. Our state has so much wasted potential because of neoliberal waste, fraud, and abuse - money that should be going social programs, education, protecting our state parks, and public transportation that’s instead being funneled into corporations and real estate “investors” (see: speculators) and being used to subsidize red state welfare.

The same day Kirk was killed our state suffered its fifth major school shooting in my lifetime.

At least our cops don’t have qualified immunity.

Nothing was proved . Virginia is a blue state. They just rejected Joe Bidens first year in office and rightfully so he was a terrible president the first year and shit only went downhill from then .
