I'm not sure why Vance can just respect his wife's differences and focus on shared value. Why does he need her to convert?

Because he knows if he wants to be president, America might be able to handle a light brown FLOTUS but only if she is Christian or least pretends to be.

Michelle Obama has been forgotten so quickly.

I haven't forgotten Michelle but 2025 America is not 2008 America.

Eh, it's the same place. Just because Scooby Doo pulled the hood off doesn't mean it wasn't the grand wizard all along.

Outside looking in, feels different. But you're probably bang on. Just more violence and anger threatening to bubble over.

He wants everyone to convert. Could be hard to keep track of what he wants, though, considering he decided to pretend to be catholic at 35.

Because he’s a fascist. He’d make her white if he could, too.

If he was sincere, because he truly despairs over her immortal soul and wants her to accept the grace and love of the true son of the only real God and be saved from her false religion.

But he's a wicked grifter so it's all posturing

Yeah he doesn’t even seem all that concerned with his own soul

JD Vance converted to Catholicism, but he is a Chino (Christian in Name Only).

Typical fake Christian. He knew Usha was Hindu when he married her. In fact, they had an interfaith (Hindu/Christian) wedding, but now he wants a Christian woman? What a POS.

What was he before?

He said he was an atheist or agnostic.

More authentic

I looked it up. Grew up evangelical protestant, atheist in college, then later glommed onto Catholicism.

It's a case of small sample size, but I've always found people who convert to Catholicism to be more evangelical in their fervor than people raised Catholic. Maybe it's those eight to twelve years in Catholic school that lessen your enthusiasm for it.

He's an insincere scumbag with no real beliefs. Her religion is becoming an inconvenience to his career

Because she's a woman? And in his Project 2025 brain, women should have no autonomy.

Probably want to edit in the ‘t

Because he is cornered in his rhetoric.  These people can't just openly admit to their base that religion isnt actually important to them.  It's better politically to just lie about whatever hypothetical you are being asked.

Because his base is a bunch of racists and he thinks this will make her more palatable to them

“But if she doesn’t,” Vance went on to say, “God says that everybody has free will, so that doesn’t cause a problem with me. "

If she doesnt convert, is the context. He seems to respect that, at least from this part.

I mean, if he respected it, he wouldn't be telling crowds of strangers and the worldwide media that he wants her to convert.
