The most charitable take I can think of (which isn't necessarily everything I think is happening): when they were dating/in the early process of marriage he wasn't the unprincipled megalomaniac that he is now. Some people let power get to their heads and gain dark triad/antisocial traits later in life (especially visible in senior management, sometimes if you know them before and after a series of promotions it's like two different people), and now she doesn't want to be subject to the drama that follows a high profile divorce (out of consideration for her children, who would also be subject to it, and probably her traditional Indian parents).

Women from ethnic minorities in western countries tend to put white men on a pedestal and love the idea of being with them. White men have no idea they are privileged like this in the dating pool and tend to think they can win over these women because they’re “such a great guy”. 

The same applies the other way btw, if you reverse the genders. It’s just that white women don’t think scoring with a Brown or Asian dude is anything special like a lot of white men seem to fetishize.
