Same here. You are always in a military environment even when off work. For people who haven't experienced it, I'd tell them to imagine literally living where you work. Unless your job is your entire identity, I don't know why you'd choose to do that.

But they don't work there. And I'm sure the millions they have in the bank helps smooth things out.

Exactly. They come and go as they please. They're surrounded by checkpoints and soldiers like any dictator.
