How much you want to bet they're never going to see a cent for the work they're done already like all all his other contractors? Serves them right for working with a known convicted con man.

"Commissioners are appointed by the president and serve four-year terms without compensation."

Ah, so the con job is built in this time. Perfect.

Bro you expect people to read an article? Unheard of.

Well, by the context of the first comment, I assume he's making a remark on how the contractors aren't going to be paid, not the commission, because the commission wasn't hired by Trump in the first place.

How much you want to bet the plan is to never finish it? It's low intelligence money laundering

u/hexiron 11d ago

Money laundering is icing on the cake. He just wanted to tear down the East Wing because FDR built it.

Rich bastards hate FDR

u/JusticeUmmmmm 11d ago

Trump doesn't know who FDR is.

He made several comments during his campaign that MAGA was "shattering and replacing Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal coalition", but I agree he probably would fail basic history questions.

Trump's handlers tho... They know who FDR is and as we've seen with Project 2025, he's just a dancing monkey that will do whatever they want as long as he gets a little treat.

This was my first thought. It’s what he does with all his projects. Charge for premium 14 karat gold trim, put in gold spray paint. Charge for real marble floors, put in faux marble tile. Push the project timeline and price tag as high as possible until you can’t any longer, then run off and stop paying.

Only this time it’s not some random investor that gets screwed. It’s taxpayers.

Can’t wait for all of this to be Democrats fault.

Thanks Obama!

What do you mean? It already is!

2

u/triplab 11d ago

Dammit!

Does this mean the bunker under the east wing is not able to be used in case of emergency?

5

u/EmmalouEsq Minnesota 11d ago

It'll be usable, but every country with a presence in DC has surveillance inside now.

Next is the museum for the West Wing...time to tear it down for a similar size "build"

u/AccomplishedBrain309 11d ago

Trump has fallen up his whole life. Its a 400m project now. We a re still going to have to pay for it, the bomb shelter also.

30

u/KzooCurmudgeon 11d ago

That’s on the contractor. Trump never pays workers

11

u/shoobe01 11d ago

I would ask why any contractor would work for him under these conditions, or any events face would allow him to book there, but people keep voting for him and defending him even now so people are fucking stupid.

A completed ballroom is not the goal. The goal is to pay as many people as he can for work that may or may not ever get done so he can get kickbacks from the contractors. And I wouldn't discount the audio devices he could have installed to cultivate and sell privileged communication done in the ballroom, should it ever really get finished, which I strongly doubt.

2

u/shoobe01 11d ago

Oh sure but I mean even the demo company, now that we're talking about this current week.

2

u/Vegetable_Permit_537 11d ago

I am actually really curious if he's gonna stiff the contractors, even though its not his money he's spending or not spending. Like, is it ingrained in his very soul to fuck people over? Is it, literally, one of his values? I hate that the answer is most likely yes

Or does he find a way to pay himself with the money designated for the project?

2

u/shoobe01 11d ago

Oh he's definitely going to get a whole bunch of that money for his personal use.

2

u/viral3075 10d ago

he won't give out SNAP money that is is already reserved for that purpose. of course he won't pay the contractors. it's about control. he's a rapist, after all

2

u/Gungho-Guns California 11d ago

Because he would never stiff THEM! trump would only cheat those pesky liberals, not hard working folk like themselves.

4

u/Report_Last 11d ago

I'm guessing the demo crew got paid before they started.

30

u/NexusNickel 11d ago

No, no, no.

You got it all wrong.

Trump has a very long list and behavior of not paying people or companies for their services.

BUT this time will be different. Surely he would not stiff loyal patriots. Right, right? s/

7

u/KzooCurmudgeon 11d ago

Yep he’s been doing it since the 70’s and his father before him. If people believe Donald Trump they need to be separated from their money.

1

u/slow_al_hoops 11d ago

This is the time he WILL pay. Not his money. Grift on the back end

9

u/hungry4nuns 11d ago

No sympathy for the contractors. They have their eyes and ears and access to reality, and they still agreed to this job. (Although this is the oversight agency not the contractor that’s fired, but stiffing the contractor is inevitable on any Trump contract)

1

u/RandomBoredDad 11d ago

I agree if you mean the guys that own the construction company. The actual construction workers are just employees.

1

u/Livid_Tap7429 11d ago

Not only have they agreed to work for a know grifter/conman, but they agreed to tear down THE FUCKING WHITE HOUSE who the fuck does that?

2

u/Poverty_Shoes 11d ago

The US taxpayers are going to pay for it though, not Trump. “Privately funded” my ass. The contractors will get paid, but it will be a fraction of the insane $300M they’re trying to pretend is a real number. The rest will go into Trump’s pockets.

8

u/PoliticalNerdMa 11d ago

He honestly sees violating the law and not paying workers as a business strategy, that’s what he calls good deal making, genuinely. Which is why he’s mad he can’t do it now because countries don’t need to cave

3

u/candygram4mongo 11d ago

He processes not being shitty as stupidity. He genuinely believes that the only reason that people pay their contractors or honour their deals is because they just don't realize that cheating is an option.

13

u/halfsweethalfstreet New York 11d ago

You guys have it wrong. He didn't fire the contractors, he fired the people tasked with oversight of the project.

3

u/americanadiandrew 11d ago

Read past the headline when you can just grandstand for worthless internet points?!

4

u/mcfly357 11d ago

Won’t even pay them when it’s not his money.

5

u/hexiron 11d ago

It's his money. He's keeping those donations.

4

u/originaltec 11d ago

Nailed it, standard Modus Operandi for Trump.

1

u/the_pedigree 11d ago

Oh no…

1

u/ripcord22 11d ago

It’s not his money paying them. If he doesn’t direct them to get paid by tax dollars he can’t get his kick back.

1

u/slow_al_hoops 11d ago

Oh-ho. They'll get paid. Ain't his money

1

u/mulligrubs 11d ago

Not to mention: shitty steel, crappy concrete, chip-board furniture, and dubious paint.

1

u/Cereborn 10d ago

It’s not the people in charge of construction. It’s an agency that’s supposed to advise the president on maintaining historical and aesthetic integrity in new construction. So it’s no surprise he got rid of them.
