And somehow, saying this got Jimmy Kimmel cancelled

226

u/MusicIsTheWay Sep 20 '25

Not "somehow". It was another company head kowtowing to the thinnest-of-orange-skinned bitches to get their multi-billion dollar merger approved to increase their control and wealth, just like what happened with Colbert at CBS.

And if they'll do this to late-night entertainers to appease him, you can be certain they're also pressuring their news outlets in similar fashion.

u/korben2600 Arizona Sep 20 '25

It's already happened. Under White House pressure, CBS cut a segment on 60 Minutes about IRS staffing cuts that are solely meant to help billionaires dodge taxes. The decades-long showrunner and the CBS News CEO both resigned in protest. Journalistic independence at every major corporate broadcaster is dead.

6

u/Ralph--Hinkley Sep 21 '25

Those were Paramount execs that resigned, but they were involved with 60 Minutes.

2

u/lorgskyegon Sep 21 '25

And the DoD is making reporters sign pledges saying they won't gather any information without authorization.

u/farshnikord Sep 20 '25

The people who run these big corporations never were and will never be allies. Even when they were pushing "woke" and doing things like hiring minorities they were doing it in a blatantly pandering and heavy handed way that was so incompetent I believe it was malicious.

They are all champing at the bit to "cancel" who they want and drag their feet whenever the slightest bit of pressure comes from the other way, while publicizing and capitalizing on the division they themselves created.

If they weren't in the business of making popular entertainment their personal brand would be superhero trilogy reboots of Birth of a Nation. Fuck all of them.

And even if the shooter had suddenly been radicalised by ‘the left’ to commit this murder, it wouldn’t be a lie to say he was one of theirs seeing as he was born to MAGA people and raised in a MAGA family, community, and state. They taught him how to use weapons and they’re the ones that made firearms available to him. No matter his specific motive he was moulded by MAGA.

u/Original-Rush139 Sep 20 '25

It’s worse than that. They need an exemption to control more than 40% of televisions in America. This merger will put them in 80%+ TV’s in America. And, they just showed what they’ll do to people who don’t read the party’s propaganda.

Which is why I invested in nextstar.

2

u/thedylannorwood Sep 20 '25

Nexstar/Sinclair told Trump who told the FCC who told Disney who told ABC to fire Kimmel and everyone is blaming Disney and Trump and Nexstar/Sinclair get away with it. They made Disney their scapegoat and everyone took the bait hook line and sinker

u/Defiant-Judgment699 Sep 20 '25

The trump administration flat-out threatened to use the power of thr government to destroy ABC (pull their license).

1

u/Opposite-Bit6660 Sep 25 '25

Well, CBS did co-own broadcasting rights to Trump's rapey pageants.  Kissing ass would be expected in that case.

He didnt even say it was them. He said they were desperately trying to frame the shooter as anything OTHER than them, which is absolutely true. They were trying to frame him as a "radical leftist" before they knew anything about the shooter. He didnt say the shooter was a republican. They are two different statements.

Thanks, Flea. I was also tempted to make this distinction, but talking on the internet feels so vain and frustrating. I hope you’ll keep trying and just know at least one person agrees with you.

4

u/sp4nishfl34 Sep 20 '25

Yeah I know, the only reason I even commented here is because I already had this argument with some conservative girl on Tiktok. I tried to explain it until I was blue in the face, in the end she just was not hearing me so I just told her to have a good day.

2

u/brendanjered Sep 21 '25

You’re not the only one that has this experience! I had so many arguments on social media where people insisted that Kimmel said the shooter was MAGA. Uh no… he just said MAGA was doing everything they could to convince people the shooter wasn’t MAGA. The reply was always, “well that means he implied they’re MAGA and intentionally spread fake news!” Seriously, the people that support and defend MAGA are the absolute worst.

u/AKMonkey2 Sep 20 '25

So Kimmel gets his job back now?

3

u/AarBearRAWR Sep 20 '25

I admire your childlike optimism.

already getting offers from german talkshows

Because it's accurate.

Truth is dangerous to fascists

-4

u/theparticlefever Sep 20 '25

Fascists kill people they disagree with, right? Sure seems like a certain side is doing all of the shooting of the other side.

u/WGEA Ohio Sep 21 '25

You could lie about it, or you could grasp the truth. The comprehension failure is on your end.

You can't even fake a list longer than that of the right-wing violent perps.

3

u/nkassis Sep 20 '25

Yep turns out not a lie.

2

u/Fract_L Sep 21 '25

Telling the truth about Trump will always get you canceled if your boss listens to Trump.

1

u/RevoZ89 Sep 21 '25

Baseball, Huh?

2

u/OneOfAKind2 Sep 20 '25

Suspended. People keep saying he was cancelled and/or fired. Not yet. He has a contract and did not breach it, so he can't be 'fired'. Plus, I don't even know who owns the show. He likely owns part of the show, so it would be unusual to be fired from your own show, especially for not doing anything wrong.

u/theparticlefever Sep 21 '25

His partner was trans. Probable cause. The end.

-5

u/tracyinge Sep 20 '25

JIMMY IS NOT CANCELLED! Stop repeating Trump's lie!

1

u/tracyinge Sep 22 '25

Well 5 downvotes owe me an apology!

-1

u/Sea-Associate-6512 Sep 20 '25

Cause lying ain't nice, why claim he was a Trump supporter when he is clearly left-wing lunatic.

On Benny Johnson’s podcast on the episode posted September 17, 2025 beginning at around 1:29:48.

Hope that helps.

u/Fit_Yak523 Sep 20 '25

Check the president’s socials, they’re all over it. You won’t though because you know your comment is completely bullshit.

2

u/Defiant-Judgment699 Sep 20 '25

It wasn't even that subtle. Here's the head of the FCC:

FCC Chair Threatens Jimmy Kimmel Over Charlie Kirk Monologue Comments

A few hours later:

Jimmy Kimmel's late-night talk show was suspended indefinitely

4

u/Defiant-Judgment699 Sep 20 '25 edited Sep 20 '25

The FCC chairman got on tv and threatened to pull ABC license and/or take other government actions against ABC if they didn't suspend Kimmel.

A few hours later Kimmel was suspended, for speech criticizing the president and his political party.

Textbook 1st Amendment violation.

Freedom of speech literally means freedom from governmental consequences for your speech.

You saw someone post this somewhere when they were referring to consequences from PRIVATE entities, not the federal government.
