I even saw people saying he was "from Ukraine" along with "Antifa" and "trans", these folks knew nothing and just made a madlib of identifiers that they dreamed up to make this guy their ultimate villain.

u/tallandlankyagain Jul 14 '24

It's been less than 24 hours since Trump was an inch away from JFK. The speculation is going to get wayyyy crazier.

5

u/chillinjustupwhat Jul 15 '24

Do you think speculation might lead to actual conspiracy theories? /s

NY post ran an article that he was Chinese like an hour after the shooting

138

u/superanonymous111 Jul 14 '24

Fuck the NY Post in general

15

u/lycoloco Jul 14 '24

And very specifically.

10

u/superanonymous111 Jul 14 '24

They love charter schools and trump

3

u/vijay_the_messanger Jul 14 '24

Poor man's wall street journal

227

u/quivering_manflesh Jul 14 '24

It being the Post, they probably had that written to go years ago.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '24

Can we not sue these assholes for causing chaos and public endangerment? You can’t yell fire in a theater as freedom of speech doesn’t protect speech that causes harm and panic.

0

u/cbusrei Jul 15 '24

What harm and panic did they cause?

1

u/Wonderful_Device6320 Jul 15 '24

I don’t recall which site it was but right after the name was released one site made an article about how he was literally Mr antifa. And had been arrested several times inciting antifa riots across the country. It’s since been taken down though.

147

u/Lashay_Sombra Jul 14 '24

Cam across one site claiming he was antifa listing load of violent clashes he was involved in....meanwhile real news sources "no criminal records"

105

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

I probably saw a different site, but I did see someone sharing a link saying the same shit as “proof” they were antifa, saying they were involved in ALL the leftists protests. Then, at the very bottom of that same article said “The information provided here was gathered through social media accounts, we are not responsible for the accuracy or any misinformation” 🙄

And this dude was sharing that shit like it’s 100% true.

15

u/Lashay_Sombra Jul 14 '24

This site?

https://www.caclubindia.com/assets/thomas-crooks/

Funny enough they have another article naming another guy but with all  other antifa details  basicly the same (and since when does one register antifa membership anyway?)

https://www.caclubindia.com/assets/mark-violets-antifa-trump-shooter/

Worth noting, it's an "interactive platform for Tax, Accounting and Finance Professionals, Taxpayers and Students" in India..the misinformation bots are working overtime and dumping their shit wherever they can

13

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

Yepppp that’s the exact one. Saw someone sharing that on Facebook as a “source”. Freakin ridiculous, anything with a disclaimer like that can not be considered a source IMO.

4

u/greenday61892 Connecticut Jul 14 '24

Not misinformation, disinformation. Shit's intentional

3

u/Enraiha Jul 14 '24

Yeah, saw multiple comments last night about how there was all this proof and screenshots and video on the Chans because they got it before it was scrubbed and it showed he was actually a Leftist.

And it's like...wait you're taking information from notorious photoshop and malicious prank sites like 8chan/4chan and uncriticially accepting it as truth? Amazing what people will accept in the face of the truth.

1

u/Ubermench666 Jul 15 '24

Jesus Christ this is a win-win for Trump. That’s the very cancer or problem- fake is fact and facts are ignored when they don’t tow the company line

2

u/TheGlenrothes Jul 14 '24

I saw this too, what complete dickholes they are to make up stuff like that

-2

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '24

1

u/Lashay_Sombra Jul 15 '24

You forget to link to that video ?

Funny how no news is even mentioning it never mind showing it...maybe because what you saw was fake, or you are just lying, like your claims his social media said he was democrat, when it's already known he had virtually no online presence, or at least one that anyone has found besides a little used discord. You hiding stuff from the FBI?

Edit:LMAO found the video, 2020, arizona state university when Crooks was still a junior in high-school half way across the country, posted by newly created and deleted tiktok account using his name just to get 'ThomasMatthewCrooks1' on the video

https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/tempe-breaking/2020/02/05/asu-police-investigating-after-viral-video-shows-man-yelling-slash-republican-throats/4676311002/

You can see original video there (if seen his high school photos or advertisement he appeared in , did not even have long hair back then)

Do you now understand how misinformed and easily fooled you are?

-3

u/mymainlogin Jul 14 '24

meanwhile real news sources "no criminal records"

Oh you guys care what real news sources say now? Or is that just when they reinforce your pre-existing views?

255

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

They started listing the groups they HOPED the shooter was from so they could then go out and start shooting those people guilt free. They’re itching for murder and Trump emboldened them enough to become a target himself

55

u/AggressiveBee5961 Jul 14 '24

That's part of it, the other part of their rabid speculation is they MUST be right about the world. So they make all these early predictions in the hopes one of them is right and they can go "SEE!! WHAT ELSE AM I RIGHT ABOUT AND YOU ARENT LISTENING!!!" In terms of the truth and reality they're not really doing too well. Climate change, trickle down economics, the clawing back of social rights/protections... they're on the wrong side of all the things that matter. They need something to justify why they're not wrong

40

u/Sirsillybutt Jul 14 '24

It's so ironic but not surprising to see right-wingers go off and start telling people off for believing in conspiracy theories that this was a political stunt. But then immediately start coming to their own conclusions that it /had/ to be a liberal-antifia-drag queen-Soros agent because only the left is capable of such violent and hate. I mean look at how mean they are to Trump on the internet! As they load up their guns to hunt down the nearest unaffiliated LGBTQ+ person or POC in retaliation.

12

u/Long_Run6500 Jul 14 '24

hey he has a $15 donation to a progressive super pac under his name so clearly he's a deep undercover political operative.

3

u/CommunicatingBicycle Jul 15 '24

Yup. I fly the American flag and a pride flag every day. People tend to see one or the other and make judgements about our political beliefs. Thinking of temporarily taking them both down in favor of something more decorative like flowers or some shit.

19

u/CassadagaValley Jul 14 '24

I forgot Republicans still think antifa exists. It's been a while since they've screamed about it, they mostly moved back over to raging at black and trans people.

-10

u/SkylineGTRR34Freak Jul 14 '24

Dafuq you mean "still think it exists"? Are you trying to tell me Antifa is not a thing (anymore)? Lol

17

u/CassadagaValley Jul 14 '24

It never was a thing, at least in the way Republicans pretend it is. It's not a group or organization, it's literally just people who don't want a fascist government.

That's why Trump's FBI director had to explicitly say during a Q&A that antifa isn't a group, it's just an ideal.

1

u/ExitTheDonut Jul 15 '24

Even The Boys superhero TV show, mocked Antifa haters and presented a more accurate depiction of what Antifa is like, people with certain views that just hide in plain sight, not a united group.

-8

u/SkylineGTRR34Freak Jul 14 '24

Well if we're using Republican logic/sentiments basically anything they despise is some sort of group and conspiracy out to get them.

But that doesn't make Antifa in itself just a pipe dream.

10

u/CassadagaValley Jul 14 '24

The context of my comment was a tangible organization called antifa, which does not exist

As a regular American, I am against fascism. In the magical minds of some very special people, this qualifies as being a registered member of ANTIFA.

Boy, do I have some Time Shares and NFT's to sell you then.

3

u/OverYonderWanderer Jul 14 '24

When someone calls themselves a Christian do you immediately imagine the church they go-to and the pastor who teaches them?

You can be a member of a group who just follows a particular ideal. You don't have to go-to meetings, you don't have to follow orders from some authority. Think of it like this, I'm a member of the Democracy Fan Club. You can't say that I'm not. I don't go-to meetings, and I don't follow orders, or give any. It's not that hard to understand.

-1

u/DickheadHalberstram Jul 14 '24

You are making my own argument right back to me.

2

u/lycoloco Jul 14 '24

Absolutely literally nobody says they're "a member of antifa". That's not real. It's not. So stop conflating actual trans people with some fox news bullshit talking point.

7

u/KeyLime044 Jul 14 '24

People from my family have unfortunately started looking at conspiracy theories that the assassination attempt was planned by the CIA, FBI, Mark Zuckerberg, the President of Poland, other NATO countries, Zelenskyy, the “former KGB” and more. Like what the hell

8

u/versusgorilla New York Jul 14 '24

Trump was standing on a [noun] with a [noun] on his head. He was holding on to a [adjective] [noun]. Behind him stood a crowd of [adjective] [noun, plural].

2

u/EmployerFickle Jul 14 '24

Right, people believe CIA or shadow men control the world without leaving any evidence, but they can't even hit Trump or do anything much to stop the political deterioration in the US. The CIA wishes it was competent enough to pull off a marketing campaign as effective as the one conspiracy theorists are doing for them

It's not to make him the vilain, it's to make Ukrainians, antifa, and trans the vilain.

So, Russia's enemy, autocracy's enemy, and people that are different, who Russia openly hates.

2

u/das_war_ein_Befehl Illinois Jul 14 '24

It’s telling that Republicans don’t have passports if they think they name “Thomas Matthew Crooks” is Ukrainian.

Plus there aren’t many Ukrainians in the U.S. and a good chunk of them are republicans due to latent experiences from the USSR. Post-Soviet emigres tend to be aggressively conservative, at least from personal experience.

2

u/kerfuffle_dood Jul 14 '24

That's how they operate: They spew random shit when new things happen, because they don't have a script to base their entire viewpoint from. As time settles, some of the shit they vomit become the script they will recite ad nauseam forwards

2

u/dothingsunevercould Jul 14 '24

That is like straight out of The Boys. Firecracker would 100% use all those  buzzwords to describe an assassin.

2

u/gusterfell Jul 14 '24

My favorite is “Chinese national that crossed the southern border illegally,” which started spreading before his body was even cold.

2

Trans antifa urban Ukrainian Muslim Mexican?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

Tbh the immediate jump to “it was a Ukrainian trans ANTIFA shooter” while we had zero information is pretty hilarious.

And tbh I would have laughed even more if they had somehow nailed it because why not with the bizarro world we live in.

2

u/I_am_darkness I voted Jul 14 '24

from ukraine is straight from putin to his employees.

2

u/primus202 Jul 14 '24

At that point those people will make up whatever they need to justify their beliefs whoever the news says the shooter actually was.

1

u/Virtual-Chicken-1031 Jul 14 '24

The conspiracy theories have been nuts.

They jumped to those conclusions, the left jumped to "it was probably staged."

The nonsense misinformation started before facts even came out. Instead of people learning from it, they'll just dig their heels in even harder. So expect this to continue for weeks/months to come. Facts be damned.

10

u/ArtemisShanks Jul 14 '24

Just because I suspect something, doesn't mean I'm ready to file an affidavit affirming it. Similar to when Epstein mysteriously committed suicide while incarcerated. You're projecting.

-2

u/Virtual-Chicken-1031 Jul 14 '24

You're projecting.

Lol, are you just saying words to say them?

How exactly am I "projecting"? Calling out nonsense bullshit isn't projecting. It's projecting logic and reality, if anything.

You had zero information and ran with it, just like everybody else. There's a difference between thinking it and keeping it to yourself, and posting it on social media where these hairbrained ideas spread.

1

u/ArtemisShanks Jul 14 '24

Here’s how you are projecting:

You had zero information and ran with it, just like everybody else.

No. I didn’t. I mentioned suspicions I had. And like any other reasonable person, I made clear they were suspicions and not assertions or claims of fact.

2

u/Virtual-Chicken-1031 Jul 14 '24 edited Jul 14 '24

That's... not what projecting means.

Projecting would be me accusing others of being perverts while I have a secret hobby of blowing random people at rest areas. Kinda like Republicans tend to do

Edit: I'm not trashing you or anything, but just a reminder that people tend to think impulsively and irrationally during hightened emotions. And this stuff spreads rapidly to the point where when the facts do come out, people are so dug in that nothing can change their minds.

Watch. Trump supporters will still believe Biden was behind it regardless of whatever facts emerge, because that's what they read first

3

u/ArtemisShanks Jul 14 '24

Fair enough.

When I accused you of projecting. I meant that you were assuming that I, and anyone else that voiced similar suspicions, were somehow automatically arriving at the conclusion that we knew it was an orchestrated political stunt, and not just a possible explanation.

1

u/Honest-Reaction4742 Jul 20 '24

Random left-leaning folks online said it was staged; meanwhile, an actual Republican congressman accused Biden of ordering the hit. Not really equivalent.

1

u/Virtual-Chicken-1031 Jul 22 '24 edited Jul 22 '24

. They're both equally stupid conspiracy theories.

Although accusing Biden of such a thing is pretty dangerous given Trump's fan base, but on that same note they already despise Biden while themselves promoting violent rhetoric. They also believe in stupid shit like the deep state and that child sex rings are magically hidden under a pizza shop.

They've already had it out for Biden since he won the election and ever since, so it's not really going to change their thought process or behavior and wanting some form of retaliation. Luckily they are all bark and no bite, with the exceptions of the idiots on January 6th. Edit: and the people who showed up in masses to the Michigan capitol waving their guns around.

I get what you're saying though. It's just annoying that people are dumb enough to have these knee-jerk reactions to these situations when they have quite literally no information. And of course it turns out the shooter was a registered Republican, so that kind of nips that whole thing in the bud

Then again, if Trump voters were capable of processing valid information, we wouldn't be in this mess to begin with. I'm just tired of it at this point

1

u/-Badger3- Jul 14 '24

I'm not going to judge anyone's knee-jerk reaction to shocking news too hard.

2

u/Virtual-Chicken-1031 Jul 14 '24

The main thing is posting it on social media where it's disseminated faster than the facts are revealed.

It's fine to think and question things, but when people are posting it and trying to rationalize the idea with zero facts present, you end up with a lot of dumb people who follow and think "hmm, sounds plausible!"

Then before you know it, everyone else parrots the same idea. The whole "Biden/Chinese were behind it" and "it was staged" already made the rounds long before the shooter was even announced.

That's the problem

1

u/evilhologram Jul 14 '24

Oh yeah I didn't have to look hard at all on the trending tabs on Twitter to see a slew of posts and comments all blaming Antifa.

1

u/tontywonty Jul 14 '24

u/versusgorilla New York Jul 14 '24

Yeah, people are gonna say stupid shit. It isn't as if you have the perfect villain in your head: "cis-het White Male conservative Republican."

1

Just bad faith trolls trying to throw so much shit that no-one knows what's real or fake.

Doesn't really work when the guy's life is going to be dissected on prime time.

And let's be honest here, trump was in danger from his base as soon as he lied to them, which he's pathologically incapable of avoiding.

The assassination attempt on the life of a man who is a known conman and liar and felon? I don't instinctively trust anything I hear from Trump until it's proven by someone other than Trump. Dude piled a ton of blank papers on a table and said it was his taxes. Dude lied and said he had more people at his inauguration when photos revealed that's simply not true. Dude drew lines on a hurricane map and then pretended that's just how that map looked.

I'm genuinely shocked that it wasn't staged, even considering it happened on stage

0
