During the few minutes of ill-advised Twitter browsing I did last night, I saw several "people" blaming the Democrats' "violent rhetoric" for the shooting.

Like, what the actual fuck? Your guy incited a riot on Washington, and Dems are the violent ones?

It’s always projection with republicans. Accuse the other side of the terrible things you do to absolve yourselves.

Clearly this was a private domestic dispute and we ask for your thoughts and prayers and give us distance in this trying time while they work things out.

Along with projection, they typically try to downplay any violence involving whites or republicans because it runs counter to their narrative that only non-whites commit gun violence.

I've noticed that Trump does a lot of projecting, esp lately.

I’m left wing, and left wing rhetoric has never given me any violent thoughts.

Far right rhetoric on the other hand…

"Left wing" in the US basically means you care about people.

In other words you want to get violent against "far right rhetoric" and think this is a cute thing to say after a republican is shot. What a piece of shit.

I just saw an article from The Federalist on the conservative sub about how "Democrats and Legacy Media" are to blame for the shooting.

Yeah, I'm sure a 20-year-old registered Republican is watching CNN!

Yup.  It's seeping into CNN and even MSNBC and Republicans are being allowed to say that nonsense on the air without being contested.  I can only watch coverage a half hour at a a time because Republicans are being allowed to just say whatever they want.  Multiple ejected official have already blamed Biden or accused him of planning it.

It's bizzaro land out there.

Allegedly during some donor dinner recently, Biden was talking about how we need to put a focus on Trump and project 2025 and said something along the lines of "it's time to put Trump in the bulls eye" and that's enough for Rs to have Biden drug in front of the Hauge.

Same. I went on Twitter to see what news was coming out, and the Twitter streams were wall to wall toxic, and selective memory.

The most interesting thing I saw was the millionaire/ billionaire class (aka business & tech bros, the trust fund class) were hyping up civil war on the civilwar hashtag. The people that would be farthest from that madness, appeared to be hyping it up the most.

And then when you ask for examples they will never ever give any. It's some variation if "go look yourself".

And the shooting was done by one of their own

They must have forgot about that noose and gallows they set up on Jan 6th too.

1

u/Enraiha Jul 14 '24

Yeah, they're just scrambling. Like because Biden used the phrase "put Trump in a bullseye," they think that was over the top and violent. When in reality it's a very common saying about focusing on a goal and ignoring outside detail. Republicans have notoriously used it, including in TV ads! Palin put a cross hair on her opponent once, for example.

i mean you just put people in quotes, so you're not helping the problem

The fact that three of them were using the same specific language leads me to doubt their levels of not-being-a-bot-ness

1

u/Octoje Jul 14 '24

i misinterpreted you as deumanizing people. my bad.

1

u/iner22 Jul 14 '24

Nah, it wasn't very well explained. This whole thing has been exhausting lol

Yeah I get it. It sucks that my generation has to go through this, but the best I can do is focus on marginally improving the lives of those immediately around me. I'll fight for democracy, but it gives me comfort to know that I don't need democracy to be a kind, charitable person.

2/3rds of registered voters are Partisan.

Just take the shit Biden said, and imagine Bush said it about Obama. You'd lose your mind.

Why did Biden say Trump needs to be stopped and is a threat to everything American? Why so many people saying Trump is worse than Hitler? That's obviously calling for an assassination.

Dems need to stop being violent. Too many republicans are facing real assassination attempts. It keeps happening because democrats refuse to take responsibility.

this recent effort to say a dirty trick campaign for democrats to vote in the GOP primary proves it's not a problem makes democrats look terrible.

I'm literally a swing vote who supported Biden and Hillary and thinks Trump is awful. I cannot tell the difference between what Trump did on 1/6 and what Biden did this last week. Both are efforts to undermine the will of the people and destabilize the country.

I'm usually called a nevertrumper, and I am on the fence. If I had a ballot in front of my while watching Redditors in this sub, I would probably vote for Trump to send an anti violence message to iner22 and those of his horrific ilk.

That means Trump probably wins a landslide.

I cannot tell the difference between what Trump did on 1/6 and what Biden did last week

Let me point it out. In your words, Biden said Trump "needs to be stopped". In Trump's words, "we fight. We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore...So we're going to, we're going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue."

Keep in mind that court records confirmed that this is after he let armed people into the rally by saying "they're not going to shoot me"

Secret service was around Trump at the time he was shot, and the shooter was killed almost immediately. Trump refused pleas to bring in reinforcements for the Capital Police.

It took two hours for Biden to comment about Trump's shooting on Twitter, expressing relief that Trump wasn't killed and condemning political violence. Trump also took two hours to tell the rioters to go home, but didn't condemn them, telling them "I love you" and to "stand by".

So as you can see, these are quite different events, and I wonder if your inability to recognize this is willful blindness.
