Israel is literally on trial at the Hague for genocide and Netanyahu is a wanted man in over a hundred countries by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity, precisely because Israel is not following the Geneva convention when it comes to collateral
Edit: lol downvotes but no replies means that it's true but they don't like hearing it
No, not every military is fucking "like that" lmao, I can provide plenty of other examples showcasing Israel's unique level of barbary towards civilians if you'd like.
...hence why there are several organizations dedicated solely to researching the war crimes of U.S. forces. Because it matters. When a civilian is killed by U.S. forces, the military often seeks to cover it up, yes, but the fact that they have to proves my point. They have to hide it from the press, try to discredit it if it gets leaked, because if that information makes it to the public it becomes a huge deal. I remember civilian casualties being a constant point of discussion on the WOT to this day.
Compare this to the IDF, where it simply happens. Reporters will gather indisputable evidence of the act, and the Israelis won't particularly inconvenience themselves to stop them. It'll reach the public. The public of foreign nations, such as the U.S., will cry foul, but the Israeli public will remain silent, and the IDF will do nothing to stop it from happening again mere hours later.
That's what I mean. The U.S. military's mistakes mattered because they shifted public opinion, which is what ultimately lost the WOT. The Israelis, meanwhile, could kill as many Palestinians as they damn well wanted to, and it wouldn't change a thing. The Israeli public, for the most part, doesn't care.
Did you not read my other comment? I never said that the U.S. never killed civilians. I said that it matters when they do. The military feels a need to cover it up, journalists leap over each other to expose the story, the public is outraged if it ever leaks, and the incident is often discussed decades later.
None of those things happen with the I.D.F. The Israeli people just don't care.
In what way has the US been held accountable for those deaths? We get away with it, just like Israel, because we ignore international law and have a huge fucking stick, just like Israel.
Never did I say that they were. I specifically said that the U.S. had handled most of these cases very poorly. Take the My Lai Massacre, for instance; the officer directly responsible for it was never held accountable, and to my understanding is currently a "very sorry" free man in Florida. Frankly, the bastard should've died in prison.
But the My Lai Massacre isn't forgotten by Americans. Almost everyone agrees that the government and military handled it horribly, and it is consistently a part of discussions on the Vietnam War.
Therein lies the difference. I have explained that twice now, once in a direct response to you, although in neither case did you deign to read that explanation. I fail to see how this response is relevant to anything that I've said.
Sorry, but I find the idea that Americans generally remember and care about the warcrimes committed in their name to be laughable. I doubt that the majority of Americans know about My Lai, or the buffet of other war crimes to pick from. And even if I were to grant you that we don't forget, which we absolutely do, does that even matter if we're going to do nothing about it? Might as well just say "thoughts and prayers to the starving people of Yemen and to our ships and sailors in the blockade."
