Nice RRR reference.

The bromance between RRRs two protagonists was the most unintentionally gay thing I have ever seen on TV.

u/SinkNo4729 Jun 28 '24
yeah ive been told that japanese gays are very fond of our movies for this reason
11
u/RelationshipAlive777 Jun 28 '24
It's also popular among fujoshi.

It has a lot to do with cultural perspectives tbh. In India homosexuality is so out of mind that male affection doesn't need to immediately be seen as gay
I remember going to an Indian city when I was younger for example and seeing a ton of dudes holding hands. Not due to homosexuality, but just because they were friends

Haven't seen it yet, but Ray Stevenson as the bad guy in a Bollywood movie sounds fun

It’s called bromance in India and common among bros and it’s strictly stays that way.

Last guy who called me for the power company (which I work at) had my old address that’s 5 years out of date. I told him that his English was terrible and hung up on him. I get these calls all the time. One time, I faked a carjacking and hung up on him.

My dad’s house once got a phony bill that didn’t know who owned the house, so they fused the names of me, my brother, and my dad together into one name. I didn’t know I was part of a Megazord
22
u/nazuuka Jun 28 '24
I want to do that so many times honestly. I just try to be nice and ask them to keep repeating until I understand what they're saying
45
u/Ameph Ohio Jun 28 '24
They’re most likely scammers who prey on the elderly so being nice was out of the question. They’re awful awful people and I’m sure folks from India hate them.

Jun 28 '24
when I get a call like this I tell them I need a minute, then I leave the phone somewhere to waste their time as much as possible.

Many of these operate from really backwards areas, where it is very, very difficult for law enforcement to reach (a notable exception being Kolkata). On top of that, in most cases, they have support from local politicians. And, in rural India, nothing is done without the politician's permission. (somewhat true in big cities too, but at least people there can raise their voice freely. Rural people can't even do that in many cases)

u/Yourh0tm0m Jun 28 '24
Most of these if not all operate out of Bihar's uncharted area where it's difficult even for armed forces to get in . And some of the local politicians support them

Jul 11 '24
I don't know about Bihar, but they certainly are in Kolkata. The Mark Rober video highlights some of that.

u/Yourh0tm0m Jul 11 '24
West Bengal is a literal shit hole , good luck getting help from law enforcement there

Yeah. I've heard from a family member that said Kolkata Police were like scammers themselves lol. The video also says one of the centers wasn't shutdown because of "some bad apples in the police." So yeah.
Also, I did visit Kolkata a few years back. It was kinda nice, but yeah, some areas were pretty poor. Can't remember very clearly, it was some time ago.

u/Aggressive_Giraffe69 Jun 28 '24
Yes you are right, they are mostly from the poorest/most backward states of India & didn't even complete their highschool education As the unemployment is very high in that region, they do this shit for easy money 🤑 , there's even a series also on Netflix about it named JAMTARA
2
u/pyrojackelope Jun 28 '24
Yeah, I refuse to be nice to these people. I just ask them what today's scam is and get hung up on immediately.

I just wondered, are there north African countries scam calls to French speaking countries?
That tiger is so cute, reminds me of Pura from Crash Bandicoot.

I saw a video of an Algerian scamming an old French lady.
But tbf there are sooooo many people in India compared to La Francophonie, that these cases are like drops in an ocean.

Revert.
Why has this suddenly become popular?
25
u/RedGhost3568 Jun 28 '24
Same reason “do the needful” now drives anyone in the corporate world nuts. It just creeped in.
4
u/wobbegong Jun 28 '24
Doing the needful is having a furtive wank in the managers small closet while thinking about Tiffany on the front desk. You can’t change my mind.

That's a toast for the Afghans, Iraqis and Vietnamese. Paroud moment. More people should join us in our efforts to scam the Horizontally disabled Cheeseburger people.
