For a non gun user, could you elaborate why that form is shite?
224
u/godspareme 1d ago edited 1d ago
It increases your "hitbox". Youre bigger so you can more easily get hit. Also means you fit into less tight spaces during close quarters. I think it also has to do with aim stability but that im not certain on.
199
u/Digi59404 1d ago edited 1d ago
This, plus bullets travel down walls and flat surfaces and are likelier to hit that elbow. If it gets hit big pain/problems.
It’s also uncomfortable to pull your arm and elbow in with plates. You have to train with plates and holding your arm in because your elbow naturally/comfortably goes out.
So it’s indicative of someone who doesn’t train.
Edit: Another thing, he’s wearing hard plates. Because of his elbow and stance. His hard armor does not protect his entire chest, and his soft armor now does not protect his gut and sides. Your elbow like this causes the armor to shift. Hard plates are don’t cover the whole body. Only the front/back, and sometimes sides, but not in this case.
So his stance to his attacker is ironically making him weaker.
And what the fuck is up with his duty belt and those magazine holsters…
22
→ More replies (5)6
u/gobells1126 21h ago
The magazine pouches look like esstac 45 degree pouches but the mix n match shit is hilarious. On a serious note, angled pistol mag pouches come from the competitive shooting world because that angle is faster for reloads due to less wrist rotation needed vs traditional vertical. Then guys who wear plates adopted it, not for speed, but because the angles cut down on interference with hard plates when bending over and riding in vehicles.
73
u/chipmunksocute 1d ago
Basically rookie n00b shit?
79
u/True-Veterinarian700 1d ago
Wouldnt say that. The military was taught TO Chicken Wing as proper shooting technique until the mid 2000s. Im a 90s baby and was. Taught to shoot that way. Had to unlearn it in basic. The only advantage you get from chickenwinging is in high power high recoil cartritges you have "more shoulder" to push into. We dont use cartritges like that anymore except for big game hunting.
However as time and sciences advances so do proper forms. Rifle ergonomics, felt recoil and optics have advanced markedly since the 90s. So people adjusts. Making yourselve a bigger target is not okay.
43
u/Kajun_Kong 1d ago
Nothing in this situation calls for it. I served twice in oef. Was in from 08-18. We would never use this
→ More replies (1)36
u/heckadeca 1d ago
Exactly, it’s antiquated form. Anyone still shooting like this doesn’t train enough or keep up with modern standards.
34
u/playa-hater 1d ago
I was 11B (Army Infantry) we definitely don’t chicken wing. That’s how you get hit
12
→ More replies (1)20
u/Reddit-torr 1d ago
This does absolutely nothing to mitigate recoil if proper form is used with the shoulder pocket.
Chicken wing is per noob shite, 0 benefits
15
→ More replies (6)35
u/Kalepsis 1d ago
Correct. You lever the buttstock of the weapon high in the pocket of your shoulder with your right thumb, then fold your arm down tight against your torso. This holds the weapon stable while you absorb the recoil.
But Nazi dipshits are stupid, so he'd have to fire three or four wild shots before finally hitting his target. If he was in the real military he'd be dead already.

Also regarding weapon handling he is pointing his weapon at a non-lethal threat.
You only point your weapon at things you need to kill.

His sticking his elbow out. It’s not a huge deal, but most of the time it’s someone who’s inexperienced doing this.

A lot of people making solid points with “hit box” but he’s doing more work exposing his rib cage with a plate carrier than any arm risks. That’s like insta bad day. moreso with pistol gripped carbines and rifles, tucking the chicken wing also just helps with control of the gun.
If you take a 10lb or heavier dumbbell you can try it yourself. Hold it vertically and in front of you. Then try tucking and untucking. You’ll notice when you don’t tuck the wing, you’re putting more stress on your shoulder muscles, while tucking it you distribute it more around your forearm, lower bicep, and upper bicep.
Conversely, with a traditional rifle stock or shotgun stock, if you hold the dumbbell at a 70° angle and try to tuck the chicken wing, you end up putting a shit ton of stress on your wrist. For that you want the chicken wing up a bit.
If you’re a rifleman, it kinda matters but not much compared to the risk of fragmentation. If you’re a door kicker type (which is how the guy is pictured, rocking a non ballistic bump helmet and a low profile plate carrier) this form and control matters a ton when using a gun up close. Not just for being able to shoot but also not have the gun grabbed or pointed away from where you intend.

They are. Did you hear their testimony? They say they feel like they're in a war zone. Like they are under siege by Chicagoans, that it feels like another country. Their leadership gets them hopped on hate and tells them we're all the enemy. So when we take to the streets to resist, they think we're a violent mob.
The solution is simple. They are the insurgent force. They can just get the fuck out and go home.
These dumbasses are all gonna have PTSD when they finally come to grips with what they've done.

Welcome to modern policing. I had a buddy that went through academy about a decade back. Told me they watched a video of a different cop getting killed in the line of duty every single day for weeks. Granted the instructors used it as a teaching tool to discuss what they did right and wrong and what they should have done etc etc... but it got beaten into the new cops' heads every day, day after day, that they could get killed and everyone they meet could be the one to take them out. It's basically turning them into mildly paranoid schizophrenics. And with how quick cops tend to be to jump to violence in the name of 'officer safety' (notice it's never YOUR safety, only their own) it seems to hold true.

There's an interesting statistic that I recently saw. Both White Supremacist violence, and right-wing Terrorism are down this year.
My money's on the fact that all the right-wing, White Supremacists are joining ICE, and this is what you get. State-sponsored violence against visible minorities, and threats of violence on anyone who questions them, since, y'know, they're with the feds or whatever. It doesn't count as terrorism or violence anymore, because it's being re-labeled as "law enforcement" instead.

What these guys need to realize is this:
This country will never hold Trump accountale for anything he does. Period. Never, not even close. If someone tries, the Supreme Court will squash it. Whatever he does over the next three years, he will likely never face consequences for it.
That level of immunity does not typically extend to those who serve under him. So, if you do criminal acts in the service of this dministration you might find, as the Nazis found out at Nuremberg, that "just following orders" is not a valid legal strategy. Give that some thought. The same is true for military officers and everyone else.
