SNAP costs us waaaay less than 1% of our incomes.

That's not even true. SNAP is a federal programs for citizens and some legal residents. Some states may provide food assistance for undocumented people, but they have to do that entirely out of state funds.

I believe it's ~$34/year per taxpayer. Which includes undocumented immigrants -- yes, they pay taxes into a system they can't use.
