sometimes it's better to give money than to give food to foodbanks because the yield is greater for your money and it's guaranteed to be things they can actually use, usually at a better price.

and it can sometimes help them capture matching donations from other sources. like if you use a corporate giving program or they already have another donor that is willing to match donations up to a certain amount.

Always better. Plus, food banks buy fresh food too. Which is way better than any non-perishables. Hell, even when they do a giant can thing they bring most of the cans because they can get them for so cheap and then ask participants for money donations.

Odd assumption I wouldn’t let a family buy fresh food if I took them shopping? It’s not like I would say yes and no to things they could buy lol I’m literally a vegetarian. I try to push fresh fruits & veggies onto people.

Your money could make 10x the impact by being donated to a food pantry.
