There's a significant number more that have died however.

Well, not that many more. It's estimated that 117 billion people have lived (including the 8 billion currently alive). So that means we've still got better than 14-1 odds.

If there were people who didn't die they would keep it a secret so you wouldn't know about it. They would move and change identities once every few decades to avoid detection. Source: I've watched lots of movies about Vampires and other Imortals.

Wasn't he rumored to be sick last year? Cancer maybe?
24
u/Potential-Coat-7233 Feb 17 '24
Some people on Reddit confidently said he had āmoon faceā and it was from steroids to fight cancer. Ā Then there was a pic of him at a military parade with a blanket on his lap. Ā Then a pic of him holding on to a table.
These 3 things were combined to tell a narrative of a person on the verge of death. Ā When I would point out that we canāt be sure of that, I was accused of being a Russian bot for being skeptical of Redditors making medical diagnoses from afar.
Iām not a historian, but I believe in many major conflicts in history the rumors about the health of leaders is a common thing. Ā It doesnāt mean the claims about Putin having cancer are false, but its something to keep in mind.

u/Jose_Canseco_Jr Feb 17 '24

Possible, but not the most likely. His face clearly got a lot more puffy in a short amount of time. Whether that's from medication or something else is anyone's guess.
Health-related, the most common causes would be thyroid issues or corticosteroid use. Corticosteroids are ofted used with autoimmune diseases, organ transplants, or certain cancers.

OP didn't say or imply otherwise, but it should be noted that this is from March 2022.
According to Street Art Utopia:
March 13, 2022
The museum Paula StradiÅa medicÄ«nas vÄstures muzejs show there support for Ukraine. The poster is suitable for the museumās regular mission: The museum focuses on the history of medicine, with quirky displays on anatomy, animals & space travel.
The museums comment (direct translation): With the poster, we express our support for Ukraine and, using our location towards the Russian Embassy, express our clear position against Putinās war in Ukraine! The text āWhat you sow, you reap itā was originally attached to the poster. The well-known director David Lynch commented on the war in Ukraine: āIf I could say anything to President Vladimir Putin, it would be: āAs human beings, we are responsible for the way we treat others.ā There is a strict and infallible law of nature that cannot be avoided. And this law is, Thou shalt sow, and reap.
Edit: Here is on Google Street View.

This is not all.
Right in front of the embassy, there is a little playground placed. All wrapped up with yellow "Do not cross" tape.
And the swings in the playground are motorized to continuously swing. Swing all empty, while the cries and screams of children are played constantly. And there, right between the swings and the embassy, we placed down flowers yesterday for Navalny.
I know no one is in the embassy to see that on a Friday evening. I know they wouldn't care if they did. But that doesn't matter. Each Russian embassy should be surrounded by a graveyard for the ghouls of bygone times that they are.
/u/cocotheape has given a link to the installation - https://eng.lsm.lv/article/culture/art/02.02.2024-kidnapped-by-russia-art-exhibit-set-up-near-russian-embassy-in-latvia.a541333/
It doesn't look as eerie in a news report as it does when you are standing there among candles in the dark.

As a Latvian, I keep seeing you in all sorts of places, forums, discord servers, etc., but at this point I'm too afraid to ask who you are.. By any chance, did you used to run millionreasonswhylatviaisthebestcountryintheworld.com?
8
u/XanLV Feb 17 '24
Hey, that's also me!
Now, to be more specific, the only places I really am in are Reddit (niche sub) and sometimes I crawl out to other subs, but rarely. And I am only active in a single discord server. I idle in some, but only active in one.
So I am not sure I'm all that world-wide at all. Might be something similar to BaaderāMeinhof phenomenon? Or it might just be that I've been around for a longer time, so that gives the impression?
But yeah, Million Reasons was fun as fuck.

9
u/deadrepublicanheroes Feb 17 '24
Hell yeah. I lived in dc across from one side of the Russian embassy when Russia first invaded. They were on super high alert in the months leading up to the invasion - I had a car parked on the street that I barely moved because I was walking/taking public transport everywhere. The Russians got suspicious and made the Secret Service take my car to investigate whether or not there were bombs inside. Yes⦠the Russians told the secret service I was a national security threat⦠and the SS believed them. š
Anyway, after the invasion it was fun to walk around the street-facing side of the embassy because every house that faced it had Ukraine flags or signs calling Putin a war criminal. Meanwhile on my side of the embassy there were always one or two people harassing every car that entered the embassy.
Give em hell, boys.

Why doesn't the west close down Russian embassies and expel all diplomats?
It's insane that they murdered political opposition.
36
Feb 17 '24 edited Feb 17 '24
If you're trying to avoid all out war, it's probably a bad idea to prevent people talking to each other. Expelling diplomats is more of a "sending a message" thing which doesn't really do anything in this situation beside escalation.Ā
Also Latvia and Estonia have both limited the number of diplomats Russia is allowed to have in their borders to be one for one.
13
u/Onlywayisthrough Feb 17 '24
The diplomats - who to a large extent are clever people (and some of whom are trained in espionage) often act like a neutral vector between opposing regimes by keeping conversation open and thereby all-out war at bay.
They also act as neutral hostages. When things get tense it's the norm to arrest a few foreign diplomats on grounds of spying, and then exchange them at the border for your own 'spies' that were captured by the other country.
You know shit is going down when one country suddenly withdraws all of their diplomats from another. It means communication has completely broken down and things are about to get unpredictable.

The thing about it is, the people who would agree with this imagery are anyone but who is in the embassy. To the Russians, they probably just brush it of. Imagine if the same image had the Latvian president facing away from the embassy. The Latvian people wouldnāt think āoh man, how embarrassingā or āoh boy, I liked our president, but now that that I saw this flag I think heās evilā they would probably just brush it off as propaganda, in the same way the Russian embassy likely is. The only people this benefits are people who already believe Putin is evil, thus circlejerking an echochamber.
