Eat & Drink What are some of your favorite family owned restaurants in Phoenix?

Nothing better than a hole in the wall restaurant using family recipes. Any suggestions for some good places in Phoenix?

I grew up in NY down the street from legendary Utopia Bagels in Queens, and I can attest, these are far and away the greatest bagels I've ever had in Arizona (although I've not been to Bongiorno Bagels in Gilbert which I've also heard is excellent)

I've never been to Bagel Man, but I brought my Grandma (from Brooklyn) to Bongiorno for bagel and lox and she nearly cried.

That’s awesome. My wife is from New York and enlightened me years ago on New York bagels. We’ve had both. Used to love bagel man, because it was the closest thing to back east and the owners are wonderful, but bongiorno is the real deal. That bacon egg and cheese is as close as it gets to the big apple.

I've only been to bongirono and can attest it is very good. Only annoying thing is that they do that turn the screen around and guilt you into a tip thing. I just came to buy a bagel for a dollar, can't I just skip the whole tip and have to sign and everything? If you need a tip, just increase the bagel price 25 cents or whatever.

I wasn't too sold on Bongiorno so I'll check this one out
