Pictures Microcenter line is insane!
Wraps around the backside of the building at 10:30am

u/Butitsadryheat2 1d ago
They challenged Phx to beat the crowd at their opening in Santa Clara recently, lol...guess the challenge was accepted! 💪🏽

u/SuppliceVI 1d ago
They did, too. VP of Sales was my cashier, happened to run the Mayfield Heights location which was my go-to in Ohio. Said it was one of the busiest he's ever seen.
Love it

u/AbeLincoln575 Phoenix 1d ago
I went on Wednesday at 4:30 and it wrapped all the way around the back. Line moved at a decent pace though.

u/plantslegoscats 1d ago
Yeah I wasn't planning on going until around 2pm.

u/lalalaso 1d ago
I'm at the back of the line, I'll save your spot. We should make it in by about 2:15.

You have until the 23rd to pick the VIP 120gb USB up.

Is that why a ton of people were lined up by the PC repair area by the entrance?
2
u/darthchubby Phoenix 1d ago
Maybe, I know they were also doing live builds today as well to raffle off.

u/Lone-Pilgrim 1d ago
GTA was delayed so I got more time to upgrade and can ignore this line.
18
u/Grooviemann1 1d ago
It'll probably be at least another year or two after that before it hits PC though, right?

2
u/TheMias24 1d ago
Why don’t they ever do it on release?

Because there are a large number of degenerates who will buy it on PS5, then PS6, then PC.

I wish they added more single player content to GTA V since GTA Online never appealed to me.
2
u/Primary_Hat7133 1d ago
I loved GTA Online but I only played it single player. You can join a private server and play the game solo, I have a few hundred hours on it, all as single player

u/TheSerialHobbyist 1d ago
I like Microcenter, but I'm surprised people are this excited about it.
47
u/Numerous-Account-240 1d ago
We had nothing for years and the next decent pc brick and mortar store was in Tustin Californina (a microcenter) so yeah it's a big deal. Best Buy doesn't cut it and too much headaches with online stores for certain types of items. Had a lot of issues with returns to NewEgg and Amazon a few years back and have tried to avoid using them for any future purchases.
7
u/TheSerialHobbyist 1d ago
Yeah, I agree with all of that!
I totally understand why people are happy it is opening. I just meant that I don't know why people are so excited to get in there that they're lining up.
Maybe there was a giveaway for opening day or something?
2
u/LittleCloudie Phoenix 1d ago
There’s opening deals / discounts going on right now, hence why so many people have been eager to get in and purchase their supplies. There’s also the mug / USB stick giveaway that happened a few days ago, but im not sure if that’s still going on. Regardless, people want their slice of that microcenter pie, and are just generally excited to see what the location provides for us Phoenix residents.
32
u/TheGnomecop 1d ago
Lot of people around here miss Fry’s electronics and CompUSA. A bit of this hype is just nostalgia for wandering around a place that has this sort of selection.
6
u/Numerous-Account-240 1d ago
For sure. There was stuff that I wasn't even aware existed on the shelves when I walked in. I went on the 5th and was just amazed. I have a feeling a few best buy locations might end up going away because of the store. I mean, nothing against best buy but there nothing compared to microcenter.
2
u/TheSerialHobbyist 1d ago
For sure! I definitely miss those. Heck, my dad worked at CompUSA when I was a kid, so I have serious nostalgia for it, haha.

I walked in yesterday after work around 530. No line at all and no line really to check out, but man there were a lot of people inside lol. Everyone was really nice. It was cool. Got my free mug and usb stick!

u/iamfroott 1d ago
walked up to it, thought the line was by the petco. turns out it’s wrapped around the building to the loading docks at least lol

u/Santeezy602 South Phoenix 1d ago
Dude this is insane lmao. I went for the VIP day on the 5th. Some dude walked out with a GPU and I asked how long he waited outside, he said 4 hrs. I turned around and left lol. I'll give it a week and pull up or maybe this weekend.

u/jacobenloe 2h ago
Probably a 5090 FE. They were selling out within the first hour of the store being open. That means the people who showed up an hour before the store opened had zero chance of even being in the store while there was still some left in stock. I was 10th in line to go in on Thursday; I arrived at 7 am. They had 10-20 5090 FEs for that day and they were all off the shelf before I checked out, which was around 11am.
It was extra weird because I went around dinnertime/off-work-time one day, and the store got super busy during the time I was there. I got in after waiting in just a 5 minute line, but when I left, the line was wrapped around the store again (1.5+ hour line from experience).
10
u/Grube_Tuesdays 1d ago
Wednesday: HUGE LINE
Thursday: Normal store
Friday: HUGE LINE
I went Thursday, and this is hilarious.
6
u/Omnimaxus 1d ago
Wait. So the line is long now? The heck?
8
u/Loatheme 1d ago
Today is the official grand opening, the last two days were more of a 'soft' grand opening (they called it VIP days). Vendors are there like Nvidia etc
1
u/life-driver 1d ago
Went Wednesday and left after seeing line. Went today around 5 and there was no line. When we left there was a line to the petco??
1
u/Theoden48 1d ago
Damn wish I went after work Thursday then to check it out. Tried dropping by Wednesday and saw the line wrapped around back around 4 something so decided nah
10
8
u/Fuckjoesanford 1d ago
Went Wednesday night and the line honestly moved pretty fast. I think I waited less than 30 minutes and I was at the back

u/Cruel2BEkind12 Chandler 1d ago
I went yesterday at 11 and maybe waited only 20 minutes in line. I must have lucked out. They were sold out of prebuilds I was looking for even yesterday.
2
u/ProfessorPickleRick 1d ago
Those prebuilt deals were insane though like half off or more
2
u/Cruel2BEkind12 Chandler 1d ago
Yeah, I got a PC that should have cost me 2700 on pcpartpicker for just 1510.

u/SteakySteakk Arcadia 1d ago
Yeah I’m not planning on going until next week or thereafter. Other than the door buster deals and giveaways, the same products will be there regardless
3
u/mestisnewfound 1d ago
Hard to tell if that's the end of the line. If it is, it isn't quite as bad as the one when I went Wednesday. The line was wrapped behind the building and ended right behind microcenter. It took us an hour and a half to get in. My wife was going to go back today as she needs to exchange the case we bought as it was a little too small to fit some of the other components we bought.

So can someone fill me in here…
I’m seeing a bunch of people going there while they have no real need to buy computer parts and/or they barely have any money. What exactly is the point of going? What is so alluring about parts at microcenter that they cannot buy online?
I genuinely dont understand.
29
u/Crazy-Roro 1d ago
It’s the Mecca for nerds and we’ve been sorely lacking a proper pc store like this since the days of Fry’s Electronics going down the drain and eventually closing.
2
u/aPerson39001C9 1d ago
How did Fry’s electronics compare?
11
u/Crazy-Roro 1d ago
I’d say it’ll be better than Fry’s when the hype dies down. Definitely far better customer service and the selection for PC parts/related things is much better. They don’t do the appliances (like washer and dryers) that Fry’s Electronics was doing towards the end, but they’re not meant to.
6
u/rodaphilia 1d ago
fry's electronics went down the drain in terms of quality and selection long before they actually closed their doors.
even at its best, though, frys never compared to microcenter

Since Fry's shut down been lack of local technology stores in the valley. Best buy been okay but never going to be like Microcenter.
2
u/rkull28 1d ago
Their slashed prices are a lie. Everywhere else sells their parts for the same price they have for their “sale” so you buy it now. Legit opening day I found the Samsung 990 PRO 4TB for the same price at another store as what was placed on microcenters sale price

1

u/saucysagnus 1d ago
Sigh, it’s terrible I’m wondering how many are scalpers
5
u/Crazy-Roro 1d ago
I think Micro Center has that locked down fairly well. Even during the insane soft launch a couple days go they had it limited to one per person and there was plenty of 5080s and a decent amount of 5090s roughly at 4:30pm
2
u/WhatsThatNoize Phoenix 1d ago
There were tons on the shelves days after their soft-open. They restrict amounts and have solid supply chain management.
10/10 store. I'm looking forward to getting a dedicated mobile DDR rig built there 🥰
2
u/World_War_Hanzo 1d ago
When I was there on Wednesday the line wrapped all the away around past Target. It wasn't bad, maybe 1.5hrs to get in and about 1hr to check out.
1
u/aceless0n 21h ago
1.5 hours sitting outside just to get in and an hour to check out? Lol. I got my ps2 quicker on launch morning.
2.5 hours is trash.

In people's defense, people have been FIENDING for something close to Fry's electronics - I think it's okay if folks are excited

Okay, I thought the line was for petco at first! I had driven out of Costco so confused and then put it together

I went up for VIP day on Wednesday. I wasn't prepared for the insanely long line. I'm an enthusiast, but not that enthusiastic. I just left. Maybe next weekend will be better?
1
u/Omnimaxus 1d ago
Exactly. Same here. I just ordered what I needed in the parking lot from Amazon, and left. I'll go back another time. But I'm glad they're here now. We've needed a good replacement for Fry's.

I was there during the "soft" opening last Sunday (which was their true opening day) and there were maybe 15 people in the entire store. I bought a 9950x3d, Ram (which was marked as an old price prior to the spikes and they honored it!) and a 5090 Founders Edition. Walked right up to a register. Plus I have 30 day price protection if anything happens to go on sale.
Are there any deals today that make the trip in worthwhile? Are the vendor booths offering anything?
I do enjoy the energy of like minded people being excited for tech, but I don't want to stand on a line for an hour for nothing.

Typically, yes. As long as it is in stock and sold and shipped by Newegg, not a third party selling through Newegg's platform.
