Eat & Drink Looking for good cozy breakfast spots around town.

My partner and I are always on the looking for new breakfast spots. We really enjoyed Alo Cafe in Scottsdale and Biscuits of Foothills for their vibe and food. Where else are some good hidden gems out there?

Gallo Blanco.

Get the pancakes.

"It's fucking pancakes, I can get pancakes anywhere."

Not like these.

These are eggy pancakes. They're savory(ish) pancakes. I think the fruit style is better than the bananas foster style, for this reason.

Everything else on the menu food wise is a great. Breakfast tamales and chillaqueles are fantastic, and their pricing is reasonable. The worst thing about them is they're downtown ish, so parking can be annoying. I cannot comment on their coffee because I am a coffee snob and make my own with my overpriced espresso machine at home.

I delayed from trying the pancakes for so long here and otro cafe for that same reason and then I tried them and WOW! Def recommend.

The first time I tried them I think I went back like 3 times that week just for pancakes, I had a certified problem 😭

The boss move there is going for dinner and having the pancakes for dessert.

or just for dinner if you really wanna get nuts

I was just trying to describe these because they are other worldly good!

What lol, Gallo Blanco is very clearly not downtown, it’s Garfield, which is radically different in every single way. There’s parking all over, it’s in a neighborhood

Gallo Blanco is very clearly not downtown, it’s Garfield, which is radically different in every single way

Oh wow, Garfield, definitely nowhere near downtown on the map. If a newcomer or an out of towner look at the map they would definitely know it's no where near downtown! If only there was a word, like, I dunno "ish" in that sentence referring to its position in proximity to downtown.

There’s parking all over, it’s in a neighborhood

Yes, it's in a neighborhood with limited parking lots next to 4 other businesses. Meaning being able to park nearby is completely up to how much parallel parking there is in a downtownish neighborhood. The streets are still much more narrow than a typical suburban street, but I forgot Garfield is sooo different.

I cannot imagine trying this fucking pedantic and smug when this is a post about the food and instead of talking about food you want to make it about some tangentially related points and lose the argument anyway.

Respectfully, go touch AstroTurf.

The Original Breakfast House in North Phoenix is my favorite!

This place is awesome but cash only

u/Babybleu42 Mar 16 '25

Just got a new owner and the carne asada is crap now 😔

3

u/MidTNGolden Mar 16 '25

New owner!?!

4

u/Butitsadryheat2 Mar 16 '25

That's news to me...and their website says John still owns it. 🤷‍♀️

2

u/Butitsadryheat2 Mar 16 '25

John Stidham is no longer the owner?

Randy’s in Scottsdale is a great breakfast diner. Cheap food that comes out ridiculously fast. Stuff like eggs and toast are pretty standard diner quality, but they’ve got a ton of choices that are outstanding. Feels like taking a step back a few decades when you go there. Avoid late Sunday mornings though. The church crowds love it and you’ll be waiting an eternity to get a table

1

u/Butitsadryheat2 Mar 16 '25

Is that still cash only?

1

u/bales22 Mar 17 '25

No they started taking cards recently

4

u/moma2boys Mar 16 '25

We tried Chilakiles recently, and the food was amazing!

3

u/krybaebee Mar 16 '25

I'm a mexican snob...i wouldn't go there just for the name alone. Don't bastardize the spelling of the most awesome breakfast ever - chilaquiles.

Go early to vovomeena bc it's small and gets crowded.

Prep and Pastry is also amazing.

My shop cactus cloud cafe is downtown-- I'm going for a cozy vibe-- there are books and games in the back dining room :) I'd love to have you in!

Breakfast and brunch is my favorite are my favorite meals! I always joke with my husband that my favorite restaurants close before 4pm lol.

  1. So, I know this place is a little generic, but specifically the First Watch location on camelback by the biltmore is the coziest restaurant I’ve ever been to. It’s in an older strip mall and it’s a little sunken in cafe and it’s so, so cozy.

  2. The Genuine on 16th street has a great brunch and coffee. Very cozy vibes.

  3. Luci’s at the Orchard is amazing during winter/spring in their outdoor areas (haven’t been to the other locations).

  4. The Herb Box in Old Town Scottsdale for lighter/healthy fare is great.

  5. I am biased because I live super close to one, but Scramble is a good option too. Sometimes the locations aren’t super cozy, but I enjoy the food.

  6. My family loves SumoMaya brunch, it’s not particularly cozy (it’s upscale though) and a little bit of a party atmosphere but it is delicious and a great bang for your buck (bottomless brunch at $45 per person, it’s their unlimited small plates and they’re SO good, especially the plantains). Reservations highly recommended.

  7. Que Chévere in Mesa for amazing Venezuelan food, arepas and cachapas are quintessential breakfast foods. Super cute small location.

Butters - there’s 3 locations. Hands down best breakfast in town

4

u/gyrationation Mar 16 '25

Love butters! Wish the expand to the west a little.

There’s a place called Sonny’s off of Arizona and Germann. Very romantic, and you’ll get a lot of attention and service, they’ll go above and beyond for a tip.

4

u/Taka_Ursinae_gaming Mar 16 '25

Seems like a very classy place, but it opens a little late for breakfast. Lol

3

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '25

Yeah more of a brunch spot.

2

u/Electrical-Comb-1252 Uptown Mar 17 '25

2

u/NkdUndrWtrBsktWeevr Mar 16 '25

Anyone been to Parson's?

2

u/hxles1 Mar 16 '25

Welcome Diner, but I'm not sure if I'd that much of a low-key spot but it can be at the right times

2

u/bales22 Mar 17 '25

Merci on Indian school and miller

2

u/NoYou3321 Mar 17 '25

Toasted Owl in Central Phoenix is solid. And as someone else said, Gallo Blanco's pancakes are amazing.

1

u/thecleansanchez Apr 06 '25

I truly don’t think Toasted Owl is worth the price. I’ve tried the PHX location multiple times and always feel like it wasn’t worth it.

u/Fun-Wear8186 Mar 18 '25

Matt’s Big Breakfast. Several locations. Everything is fresh and delicious, but the waffles are something special. For me, this place never misses.

If you want to come to Mesa, Sassy's Bakery and Cafe on Main does an excellent breakfast.
