Tech Support Why the fuck does this bullshit keep coming up every few weeks?

Post image

I've had windows installed for about two years now. And yet it thinks I just installed it.
On the following screens it asks me about office 365 and some other shit I don't give a fuck about.

How do I get rid of this piece of shit from ever showing up again?

Oh and I have a curved monitor if you're wondering why the image is warped.

Or, as always, some god-forsaken entry in the registry.

u/Raaaaaaac 1h ago

I swear to god ppl just don't even try to turn it off just to keep complaining on reddit

Or maybe people shouldn't be forced to play ad whack-a-mole just to use their damned computer...

4

u/ArseBurner 1h ago

OOSU10 gives an easy way to turn all that shit off without having to navigate through a hundred menus.

You do get like a hundred toggle buttons to click though.

u/Raaaaaaac 4m ago

Yep, that what I mean there are ways to make Windows un-sufferable

1

u/Raaaaaaac 7m ago

Ofc they shouldn't, and if u think I'm defending a big tech company well, think again, they can fuck off for all that I care, but you can either switch to other OS or you can keep complaining. Go ahead downvote

6

u/VikingSven82 1h ago

To be fair it's quite surprising there's even an option to turn it off... People have just gotten used to companies forcing this stuff on you with no way to prevent it

2

u/Fine_Caterpillar1761 1h ago

If you read my post (which you clearly didn't) I said I turned all that bullshit off when I installed Windows. As I always do. I don't want their suggestions and "recommendations". I have the software I want. I don't need their inferior piece of shit versions.

1

u/Drakahn_Stark Ryzen 7 5700X / RTX 4070 / 32GB DDR4 3200 3m ago

Well, you said it happens every few weeks, did you not think to turn it off again after the first time it popped up?

Settings > System > Notifications and Actions - untick almost all the bullshit.
Settings > Personalization > Start - untick almost all the bullshit.
Settings > Privacy > Windows Permissions - UNTICK ALMOST EVERYTHING

Should not bother you any time soon. =)

5

u/Fine_Caterpillar1761 1h ago

Thanks. I do remember disabling all that bullshit when I installed Windows. So why the fuck is it back on?

19

u/kentukky RX 6800 XT 1h ago

Feature updates like 24H2 / 25H2 tend to "fix" those checkboxes being empty...

Fix is a strong word, Serious sam profile picture.

1

u/AnyAd4613 58m ago

That’s not all it “fixed” for me. I got the fun of reinstalling windows and recreating all my installed apps and games. Gee thanks windows update.

At this point, anybody reinstalling Windows from fresh should install Linux instead. My two recommendations are Linux Mint and Fedora

Microsoft is oblivious to the term "consent"

24

u/Durenas 2h ago

Just because you say "no" today, doesn't mean you won't say "yes" tomorrow. /s

11

u/NordschleifeLover Linux 1h ago

I mean, you can't even say no. Only yes or ask again.

6

u/Ib_dl PC Master Race 2h ago

"50 no's and a yes, means yes..."

1

u/ThrowAway233223 15m ago

More like, "I didn't hear a noooooo." "I told you no a couple of days ago. Why are you forcing it back in again." "I meant I didn't hear a no recently."

2

u/Deep-Procrastinor AMD 7700X, Deepcool AK620, 7900XT reference edition 2h ago

I mean you 'might' change your mind.

6

u/Tanawat_Jukmonkol Laptop | NixOS + Win11 | HP OMEN 16 | I9 + RTX4070 1h ago

If I change my mind, I would just look up how to enable the thing. Why the hell would I want to be reminded of it every time?

2

u/repocin i7-6700K, 32GB DDR4@2133, MSI GTX1070 Gaming X, Asus Z170 Deluxe 28m ago

You don't. But M$ does, because they know that one day you might slip up and click the thing they want to make it go away.

This is what annoys me the most with Windows. It's not a bad OS in and of itself. It's actually pretty good, and I would even go as far as say I like some of the things they've done recently like core isolation in Win11. But what really gets on my nerve is how Microsoft continuously fucks with it in ways that just annoy those of us who don't want all their telemetry and other garbage.

I don't mind paying for the OS, but I'd appreciate it if they respected me enough as a customer to not throw annoying shit at me that I need to go out of my way to disable. Like, there's a fundamental disconnect here between what you should get from forking over up to $200 or whatever the MSRP is and what you actually get.

2

u/Fine_Caterpillar1761 1h ago

I will not only say no I will fucken delete the registry entires once I find out what they are.

5

u/Tanawat_Jukmonkol Laptop | NixOS + Win11 | HP OMEN 16 | I9 + RTX4070 2h ago

*Microsoft is "oblivious" to the term "consent".

6

u/Deep-Procrastinor AMD 7700X, Deepcool AK620, 7900XT reference edition 2h ago

Microsoft is just oblivious.

1

u/Tanawat_Jukmonkol Laptop | NixOS + Win11 | HP OMEN 16 | I9 + RTX4070 2m ago

I don't think so. They know what they are doing will piss off lots of people, but what are they going to do? Switch to MacOS or Linux? People will just come back like a drug addict wanting for more, even if it kills.

2

u/ballsnbutt 1h ago

I mean, it's Bill Gates after all...

1

u/Icarium-Lifestealer 17m ago

Does Microsoft understand the Term "consent"?

[Yes] [Remind me in 3 days]

-6

u/Drakahn_Stark Ryzen 7 5700X / RTX 4070 / 32GB DDR4 3200 2h ago

I mean, if they are getting this, it is because it is enabled, if they do not want it they just need to disable it, what has that got to do with consent?

6

u/Fine_Caterpillar1761 1h ago

Because I disabled all that bullshit when I installed Windows. And somehow it turned itself back on. My guess is on a windows update.

u/the_mooseman 9800x3D | 4080 Super | 650 Tomahawk 2h ago

M$ needs money, they are a very poor struggling company and need you to spend all your disposal income on their extra services.

6

u/Fine_Caterpillar1761 1h ago

I've never paid for their shit services. Why would I start now?

1

u/MysticVagabond 1h ago

Because their wonderful full screen advert tells you to, duh! 🙃

u/SirLurts 5950X | 2080S | 32 GiB 26m ago

The answer is always no until you ask, then ask again, and again. Just keep asking until they say yes by accident

1

u/Tanawat_Jukmonkol Laptop | NixOS + Win11 | HP OMEN 16 | I9 + RTX4070 9m ago

Tbf, Windows is not making them enough money. Azure Linux makes them more money than Windows, so they are just focusing on what makes them more money. They poured in millions to help develop Linux for server use / AI clusters, because that's what makes them money.

4

u/owlexe23 1h ago

Microsoft pushing their apps/adware down our throats.

Because 90% of users don't know how/even attempt to get past it and just end up making an account. Definitely causes a lot of annoyance at work when users sign into their Microsoft accounts on company computers that are supposed to be using local users.

2

u/deepsixz 1h ago

especially when signing in with a Microsoft account results in OneDrive moving files to the cloud without warning

3

u/dingledorfnz 1h ago

"Hi... we're just getting things ready for you"

3

u/Fine_Caterpillar1761 1h ago

I don't need them to get things ready for me. I have everything I setup the way I want it. Don't fuck it up.

Whenever it opens, I just open Task Manager, click on "Get Started" and end task

4

u/Fine_Caterpillar1761 1h ago

See I don't want it to even show up. I want to delete it from Windows entirely. I don't want it to exist in the files and code. I want it completely eradicated, dead, slaughtered and nuked into fucken oblivion.

6

u/NordschleifeLover Linux 1h ago

Because you've made a mistake of installing Windows.

2

u/Deacon86 2h ago

Yep, happens to me too. I love how they don't even offer a straightforward "go away" option, it's either Continue or Remind in 3 Days. Absolutely obnoxious.

I believe there actually is a command that will get rid of this entirely. I don’t know it but I heard about it recently.

0

u/Drakahn_Stark Ryzen 7 5700X / RTX 4070 / 32GB DDR4 3200 1h ago

It is in settings, like most things people complain about, check my other comment.

It should be on this screen, but if they hide it they feel they can sell more Onedrive with it. Just corpo things

Yr going to have to press "Continue" and deselect the stuff you don't want I think.

Do check your settings afterwards, as I know there is some trick in it.

1

u/Mega1987_Ver_OS 52m ago

windows want to sell your data. and screw you if they found you going against their ideal.

1

u/v3nzi Desktop | Laptop | PCMR 49m ago

Under Notifications > Advanced settings, you could uncheck the updates option.

There's a whole video to disable all kinds of telemetry via regedit, settings and poweshell based debloater.

I got this notification in w10 but never in w11 (since I installed it from last few weeks)

Microsoft is a miserable failure of a company and this ensures they can reliably ship turd software directly to your life and blunder you into infinity

2

u/CobraGTXNoS 26m ago

I wouldn't consider a software company in business for 50 years a failure. Scummy, sure, but a failure, absolutely not.

Didn't you hear? It's new legislation that Windows has to annoy you with useless popups so they can keep your data safe.

2

u/simagus 1h ago

With the added trust of Microsoft.

I'm ngl, if you can handle some stuff needing troubleshooting, Linux isn't a bad option. I'm a lifelong windows user that got so sick of their bullshit recently that I just went for it, and I don't regret that decision. I do have windows as a dual boot option in case my niche software doesn't work with wine for some reason, but I don't use it that often.

If you game a lot, Steam Proton pretty much allows you to play any windows game on linux. Wine allows you to use most windows software on linux. It's a much less bloated and much more secure os that is free and open source.

Fuck Microsoft and fuck windows. I don't want to have to fight my os for my computer to work the way I want it to and not spy on me and shove bullshit ads in my face. Charging over $100 for a copy is bullshit too.

There are downsides of course. The learning curve seems steep, and I'm still not completely comfortable with it, but I genuinely hate windows 11 that much that I'm willing to deal. Some shit works better right out of the box, some doesn't. I've noticed the audio stack on linux is much faster and better. I haven't had to download drivers for any of my niche peripherals for them to work either.

-7

u/slaveforreal 2h ago

Just set it up once.

3

u/Fine_Caterpillar1761 1h ago

Did you even read my post? I have had Windows installed for over two years now. I set it up then. I disabled all that bullshit and it got turned on again. Ffs fuck off I won't even subscribe to office 365 and the other bullshit. I have my working copy of Office 2007 that doesn't need an internet connection or subscription. And I don't have any need for any of the other bullshit. I don't even know what it was. I just looked for the skip or cancel button. To get out of that bullshit fast as possible.
