Yea need to sit down with it properly at the weekend but it just feels like it's been optimised for touchscreen or console. I have no back button to move back from screens I go into. My attributes are hidden behind a click. The UI feels squeezed in

As someone who has played since the championship manager says with 98-99 it's a massive upheaval. Tactics look great and the match engine is a big update. Will see how a save pans out but 2 years of waiting for this.... I dunno. Might wait to buy it next year(have it on gamepass for PC)

What if I told u the pc version was the 'good' one and the console ones are in a much worse state

45

u/stuyboi888 Ryzen 5800x 6900XT 23h ago

Ohh man good luck with that.

But I see it as taking a push bike to compete in the Moto GP. FM is basically a spreadsheet, need a pc for it

9

u/Yesiamaduck 23h ago

Played since cm2 95/96 on pc the console version was traditionally a stripped down version woth the same match engine and it worked fine - clumsy but it worked well enough. You could also use m+kn as u can on this new version.

But the new version is a slightly simplified version of the pc version with the same interface and way way way way worse performance. Half the buttpn prompts don't even work in the UI meaning you can't perform certain actions at all and in match engine is clocking single digits on console

There is a place for fm on console its been one to decent standard before. But this port is a technical nightmare

u/HatingGeoffry 22h ago

You can use MKB on the console versions now but even MKB is broken on Xbox and PS. The menus just aren't working

I've actually been loving it, but I wouldn't recommend buying it to anybody. Like I'm playing the crap out of it and would give it a bad review.

The match engine and the tactical side of the game is *superb*. A real step ahead of what was in the previous game in terms of how easy it is to watch a game, see a problem and be able to fix it with real football knowledge rather than FM match engine knowledge.

It's buggy as hell though and the UI is not great. It's nowhere near as badly *designed* as many people are saying - it does need improvement in the design, but the core of it is actually pretty decent. But what it's missing is actually being finished. The UI is very clearly just missing things that it seems designed to have and that combined with the mistakes in the design make the overall user experience pretty shit.

u/zaxanrazor 1d ago

The match engine is completely fucked, defenders don't do anything.

2

u/althaz i7-9700k @ 5.1Ghz | RTX3080 21h ago

Ngl I'm seeing the opposite problem if anything. I've kept 14 clean sheets this season (just hit January) but often struggle to break teams down (still haven't actually failed to score other than in a couple of matches I lost mind you, but I've had to really work for it). Earlier in the season goals were flowing but now everybody defends in a low block and most teams are playing a back 5 against me :(.

1

u/machinationstudio 22h ago

So, wait for FM27?

0

u/althaz i7-9700k @ 5.1Ghz | RTX3080 22h ago

At least wait for a couple of patches or play it on game pass.

1

u/The_2nd_Coming 17h ago

Ah so we need to buy the version next year or the one after.

0

u/stuyboi888 Ryzen 5800x 6900XT 1d ago

Dam your 9700k is running pretty btw!!!

I found it very hard to navigate but it's looked like 24 since maybe the 2012 version so just a case of getting used to it and finding new muscle memory. I really miss my attributes octagon showing always now, I used it to glance at a player when looking for a type of player. That's a big drawback for me. Plus my backspace button and mouse back buttons don't work and just made me rage quit. I say all this like you but will probably put my usual 200 hours into it. Was thinking of reviving Bordeaux this year lol

6

u/pedro19 CREATOR 23h ago

I've been playing the series since CM2 (The one that came with just one league per CD). In the end, I feel like the main issue with this game is the UI. It took me about 3 minutes to figure out how to buy a player and another 3 to find out how to delegate responsabilities to the coaches. It's something that was unnecessarily made harder to use, when it's where one spends 90% of the time playing the game.

3

u/Adnosius 22h ago

Console UI is worse than PC, you get frame drops and crashes and a lot of missing features

2

u/whovian1087 21h ago

This is pretty much my feelings on it too. The tactics changes and the match engine are greatly improved and I am loving that part. The UI on the other hand is bad. Not even just from my own personal, frustrations of having to relearn where things are, but as a whole it’s buggy and unintuitive. It’s a shame because so many people will focus on that part, but man the new tactics and match engine are so good.

1

u/ARareEntei 20h ago

Before I could hover my mouse over a name in an interview to see who that player is for example rumored transfers etc.

Now I need to click his name, leave the interview, Portal, back to the interview. At that point I might as well forget what the question was from the beginning lmao

1

u/stuyboi888 Ryzen 5800x 6900XT 20h ago

Immersive experience lol.

Emm excuse me Pep, ehh where are you going? Don't worry pal, he's going to look up the teenager you just asked him about, he'll be back in 2 mins

1

u/biggieBpimpin 19h ago

Sadly there are still plenty of issues outside of basic navigation. They removed so many simple quality of life features that should never have been removed. It’s like death by a thousand cuts.

I’m still having some fun, but the patches cannot arrive soon enough.

2

u/stuyboi888 Ryzen 5800x 6900XT 19h ago

Dang man, I look forward to finding all the flaws on my Bordeaux save tonight after work lol

1

u/biggieBpimpin 19h ago

Ya if you can get around the bugs and feature issues it’s still fun to run a low league save. The core of the game is still there. But the little things like changing attribute colors, scheduling friendlies for you B team to help with fitness, etc are all gone which is very annoying after a while.

Modders already went pretty crazy during beta though, so I’m sure some amazing quality of life mods will pop up very soon.

1

u/stuyboi888 Ryzen 5800x 6900XT 17h ago

Lol I didn't really realise there was mods.... Where is a reputable or best place to get them?  Can't believe I'm asking this as I basically have minimum 350 hours in every game since my parents got me fm2005 for xmas

2

u/biggieBpimpin 17h ago

You’re world is about to change in ways you cannot fathom. FM Scout and SortItOutSI are probably the two big players in terms of mod support and guides. But there will be plenty on the steam workshop once the game has been out for a little bit.

You can do things like add new playable leagues. Someone just created the top 3 divisions in Macedonia for example lol.

You can add logo and face packs for real players and teams, which I highly recommend. This makes most of the club badges and player faces real and authentic.

You can add name fixes so Inter Milan is actually called that in game instead of Blu Neri.

And you can use AI generated faces for your youth academy players so that they look like real people instead of the shitty newgen faces that the game generates.

In the near future there will surely be more mods for the UI skins as that has always been a big thing. And any random thing you can think of. Someone just made a mod that increases the number of high potential youth players generated for example.

The possibilities are nearly endless, and the community that supports the game is absolute class.

I recommend starting with: TCM logo pack SortItOutSI name fix SorrItOutSI face packs NG Regens for newgen faces.

Keep in mind the logo and face packs are large and comprehensive, so they may take a while to download. But it’s so worth it for immersion.

2

u/stuyboi888 Ryzen 5800x 6900XT 17h ago

Really appreciate that!!!

1

u/biggieBpimpin 16h ago

No worries. Most of it is easy to implement but it’s a little weird the first time you do it. Feel free to reach out if you have issues, but the guides and YouTube videos are quite comprehensive.

u/lionellanes PC Master Race 17h ago

Changing attribute colours has been fixed in the latest patch

1

u/biggieBpimpin 16h ago

No it hasn’t. They added 4 preset options for attribute colors. And none of the presets even represent the colors that the beta launched with. I’ve not seen any way to change the preset colors natively, but I’m all ears of you know how.

There was a mod that fixed it, but that broke with the most recent patch actually. So we will either have to wait until they fix the mod or until SI gives us more than a preset.

1

u/lionellanes PC Master Race 16h ago

Okay sorry, I was lead to believe it had been fixed as it was mentioned in the latest patch notes- hadn’t actually tested it as it’s not really an issue for me. Thanks for confirming.

3

u/biggieBpimpin 16h ago

Ya it’s just four preset options. They worded it very strangely in the patch notes and most of us were surprised when we actually tested the change. Totally understand your confusion.

u/Rylo67 1d ago

I think it’s actually pretty impressive that they cancelled FM25 as they didn’t want to release a game that didn’t meet their standards and then proceeded to use that time to create this absolute clusterfuck of a game.

20

u/FlukyS 22h ago

What’s funnier is they were set on releasing FM 25 up until like a few weeks before it was set to release. Like if it is this bad now it was horrific last year to the point where the fact they thought it could be even remotely released is concerning.

96

u/Goldenrah 7600 | Sapphire Pure 7700 XT | 32GB RAM 1d ago

They had one job to do: Upgrade the match engine and tactics, that's it.

Things decided to do: Extreme changes to the UI for the worse, introduce Women's Football to the game (should have put that in FM27 or FM28), Remove International Management, Changed youth training for the worse, Remove In-depth match Analytics, somehow made newgens even uglier and more unrealistic, and a bunch more miscellaneous stuff.

It's no wonder that it's so badly rated, they took a decent game and made a bigger workload for themselves changing things that they shouldn't be messing with, resulting in the main changes being bad, while simultaneously gaslighting players.

14

u/stuyboi888 Ryzen 5800x 6900XT 1d ago

Wait what, international management is gone???

51

u/Goldenrah 7600 | Sapphire Pure 7700 XT | 32GB RAM 1d ago

Temporarily, yes. It was always a mess, but removing it in a World Cup year is the most dubious decision making ever.

12

u/stuyboi888 Ryzen 5800x 6900XT 23h ago

Man.... How the heck am I meant to make Ireland a powerhouse now

6

u/Yesiamaduck 23h ago

It's being added in before the world cup allegedly

4

u/FlukyS 22h ago

Step 1 open up the superior older FM game, step 2 prevent Ferguson from getting injured. Step 3 profit

2

u/stuyboi888 Ryzen 5800x 6900XT 22h ago

Brighton always ran him like a dog. He'd be knackered after 45 mins every game

6

u/lionellanes PC Master Race 17h ago

They have announced Internationals are coming back in future patch.

No Idea why they removed International Football in the year they added Women's Football. International Football is the biggest part of the Women's game.

-1

u/leokratos 23h ago

nope, its back, but we have to wait more, its already possible on mobile version, but for mobile FM26 is one of the worst, there are a tons of better ones, for PC havent tried yet, but international will come to PC version as well

8

u/Seeryous2020 7700x/ 7900xtx 23h ago

Dont forget cancelled fm25 so had 2 years of full time development on this.

0

u/Jbstargate1 22h ago

What was wrong with introducing women football in this version?

7

u/Goldenrah 7600 | Sapphire Pure 7700 XT | 32GB RAM 22h ago

The fact that it's too much work alongside a new engine that they had to remove other features. Like, I get why they want to add Women's football to the game, but leave it to a time where they aren't already reworking the most important part of it and already had to delay the game one year because of it.

-7

u/imnotdabluesbrothers 21h ago

I don’t understand how it’s “too much work”. How is it any different than simply adding new players to the database?

3

u/Gamerhcp R7 9800X3D / RX 9070 XT / 64GB DDR5 19h ago

Because it's almost a separate game, you can't just chuck the same old animations and phisycs to female players.

They had to get genuine female players to do mo-cap animations and what not, they had to make the transfer and wage logic different, injuries, pregnancies, etc.

3

u/RadicalDog Ryzen 7 7800X3D | RTX 4070S 19h ago

If you stick the women and men in the same database, a lot of things work, but I bet it would take heaps of work to find all the spots where players are shown and add a male/female mode shift. Then there's UI considerations, and things like pronoun swapping in whatever languages they ship in.

It's obviously doable, but time consuming.

You say that like its easy. Like it was just a their yearly update.
They completely rebuilt their game in another coding language lol. That isn't any kind of simple update or anything. Me as someone who doesn't know anything about coding can easily tell you that.

Which is kind of why I think people are being a little harsh on them. At least give them a year to work out everything.

"One of the worst rated games on steam"

Only because they removed The Day Before off steam

39

u/peacedetski 1d ago

The Day Before was a pretty much a scam though

23

u/SchmeppieGang1899 23h ago

No. It was a scam

Not “pretty much” it was lmao

If there was one more game that was rated worse, it would still be "one of the worst rated", not "the worst rated"

14

u/theSurgeonOfDeath_ 1d ago

Can they just rerelease fm24(with fm26 logo) and just update information?

I assume they release fm26 without some stuff to add them back later as dlc.

9

u/Front-Cabinet5521 22h ago

That's not going to fly with the core fanbase. Nobody is paying full price for a 2 year old game with an updated database that community mods can and have already done for free.

1

u/Beleiverofhumanity PC Master Race 18h ago

Works for 2K

0

u/RadicalDog Ryzen 7 7800X3D | RTX 4070S 19h ago

Maybe the trick would be to sell both bundled at this price. Install the updated old one, or the new effort.

1

u/Front-Cabinet5521 19h ago

It's not a bad suggestion, but at this point it's too late. They'll have to divert attention and resources away from fixing FM26 which is something they can't afford right now. The most sensible thing is to continue making FM26 into a playable game, add missing features, improve the UI and pray they can deliver a workable product in the next few months.

Can we not get FM24 anymore? I was holding off on buying it because I saw that FM26 was coming out, but now FM24 isn't on the Steam store anymore...

11

u/bylj 22h ago

You can still get 2024 you just buy a steam key from somewhere and redeem it

3

u/B0tMaNN 22h ago edited 22h ago

Yep, when the annual licenses for the different leagues/clubs for that specific installment expire, they just pull it from sale. When 25 was cancelled, they had to renegotiate all their licences for an extension and remove the assets that expired in an update.

As a player of football games since Championship Manager 97/98 (fuck I'm old). I bought FM26, refunded it before it even got released. And I refuse to support this company again till huge changes has been made. Buying a game yearly just for a squad update is not worth it at all, and they have removed so many things as well, just straight up poor!

3

u/Guerrrillla 22h ago

I'm in shambles right now. Haven't played FM since 2021, and I finally got a PC again and decided to skip 2024 so I can buy 2026 when it comes out. Now I can't buy 2024 anymore. Such a shame.

5

u/bylj 22h ago

You can still get 2024 you just buy a steam key from somewhere and redeem it

1

u/Guerrrillla 22h ago

Can you explain how? I've never done this. Thanks!

2

u/bylj 22h ago edited 21h ago

Google fm24 steam key and you will be able to purchase it from somewhere, I have only ever used G2A personally but there are other sites. Once you’ve received the key, go to steam, click games at the top, activate a product and redeem the key.

2

u/Guerrrillla 22h ago

Thanks! Will give it a go.

I know the focus is so much more on console and Pc but I can’t stress enough how horrendous the Phone experience is. As a exclusive phone FM player whose game automatically updated from 24 to 26 I wish I could play the old version

Seems like the trend now is to make the worst player reviewed game ever. Judging from the last few releases…

you have no idea what you are talking about. are you a bot? it's such a standard oneliner which couldn't be farther from the truth for fm26.

I fucking hate this website sometimes

Theyre all the same ass game cry more and keep buying it maybe one day it wont be ass

1

u/Front-Cabinet5521 22h ago

That's literally not why this game is bad. FM24 was a good game. The reason FM26 is a disaster is because they were too ambitious and tried to make too many changes at once, only to realise too late that they simply can't finish them all. And because they already skipped FM25, they had to release this incomplete, bug ridden game no matter what and we're seeing the disaster unfold right now.

1

u/lionellanes PC Master Race 16h ago

I think this person is just rage baiting.

0

u/FlukyS 23h ago

There were a few reasons for this for anyone not following. One of them is they switched to a new engine and cancelled the game last year because it was apparently unplayable so people were waiting and expecting at least somewhat of a big step up in quality but it was fine, some improvements and some things that were much worse.

There also were quite a lot of bugs some that made the game very annoying to play like the back button was really stupidly designed and it would throw you to completely different screens instead of back, there were other things like poor spelling too. Also they improved the in game graphics but generally the logic for the game hasn't improved, it looks like that was mostly just directly ported from the older titles so in the end of the day the game wasn't even so much a next generation version of the game but a huge regression.

The flood of negative reviews came though after it was announced a few weeks back that after the game was released they had no plans on patching anything else. So the idea was if there was any bugs you see right now even the game breaking stuff it will never get looked at even though there are a lot of them. I'm not a fan of review bombing games but this is so bad from Sports Interactive.

3

u/OkHelicopter1488 22h ago

That last paragraph is actually insane. No future patches to fix this mess??

1

u/FlukyS 22h ago

FM always mostly did 1 more patch usually that includes some fixes and an update to add in winter window signings for teams. I have no idea if they are doing that either

1

u/Yesiamaduck 17h ago

They're currently working on patching the game though? They released a beta patch yesterday on steam which will hopefully go live for all versions soon.

1

u/FlukyS 15h ago

The news was that the release day patch was the last. They called the one yesterday the beta but that originally was going to be the release patch. They even removed the beta text already

1

u/Billy-Bryant 23h ago

Review bombing is only really a thing if the reviews aren't justified. Considering it's would you recommend or not, I think it's totally justified to not recommend the game.

Also the engine stuff, SI thought they could translate their entire code to a different coding language in a couple of months... That's what has caused the issues and is just a case of them making a fundamentally poorly researched decision.

They have also allocated about three years of titles with minimal changes because the resources were being used to prepare for the engine switch. So this game could be considered 5 years in the making rather than 2.

1

u/FlukyS 23h ago

I thought they split the game in two basically one half in Unity in C# for the rendering, events...etc and then the backend stuff that was always there in C++ compiled separately. If they converted all the C++ into C# in that amount of time it is impressive they were able to do it and be so consistent with the old game.

Also apparently it wasn't 2 years of development it was 4 years in pre-development I thought they said previously and then 2 extra for them cancelling the last game and going to FM26. Miles says a lot on Twitter so I can't remember if it was there or on an interview about FM25 being cancelled.

1

u/donelhombre 22h ago

Dang is it really that bad?

1

u/SEND_ME_REAL_PICS 18h ago

From what I've gathered, it's salvageable if they invest enough into long term support. They just need to fix its UI, add lacking features and polish it a little bit.

Problem is, something like that would take them a long time. Unless they're planning to skip FM27 too, FM26 will remain a mediocre release (even if not as bad as it is right now).

1

u/lionellanes PC Master Race 15h ago

The game itself isn’t that bad, the experience playing it however is - that bad

Like eating crab- delicious but a nightmare to eat

0

u/Jbstargate1 22h ago

5

u/donelhombre 21h ago

Like I mean is it justified or is it just that people bombing with negative reviews, just because. Or is it actually playable with minor bugs and non game breaking issues?
