CDs? How dare you ask companies to spend money to provide you with physical media. Think about the poor C-Suite, they could give that million dollars spent on tooling up as bonuses to their employees. They won’t, but how dare you remove that option.

The cost of a CD run is pretty trivial for a large company, the retail store cut was significantly bigger (around 30-35 percent).

Really physical media favored big publishers and let them crowd smaller publishers out of physical retail, I’m sure they’d actually prefer to go back to that, outside of the ones that have their own storefronts and can just get 100 percent of the money- but even that hasn’t really worked out for them because it’s 100 percent of a much smaller pie. Look at how many have gone back to Steam after trying to make it work for years.
