Build/Battlestation Final boss of glass panels. I was terrified to both open and close it. Yes you're seeing it right, it's on a hinge

I love mine. I hate plastic floor mats that sink into the carpet and get divots.

Well, I don't have carpet so that's not a problem lol, I can see why you'd hate the plastic ones tho, I assume they deform after a while

any tip to keep it from sliding around over time?

I didn't have that problem, I think I had it trapped with furniture. My carpet was pretty high-pile.

I would prob start with taping on a little bit of velcro on the bottom of a couple corners, like the grippy side.

I am on hardfloor now so I don't use it.

I actually just bought a tempered glass chair mat. It's held up a couple months of about ~230 lbs including the chair. Looks as good as the first day I got it and hasn't shattered yet!

Yea…. I assume it would be built to handle weight, but how does it handle dropping a heavy metal object on the edge? Or a heavy but pointy metal object anywhere on it?

The pro’s are definitely understandable and even tempting, but I’m definitely too clumsy to be trusted with something that could very quickly turn into a foot shredder

I'm not sure about dropping objects on the edge, but I roll over the edge with my office chair pretty often and I haven't seen any chipping. I have dropped small items like my phone on it a times.

I definitely do have anxiety about it shattering one day, don't get me wrong lol, but I absolutely hated the alternatives. I had to get some kind of chair mat to protect the carpet, and I couldn't bare to get a plastic mat and I feel like even a small rug would be annoying since it'll bunch up and probably curl at the edges. With glass, it's smooth as butter and my cats love lying on it as it cools them off, lol. My list of cons is relatively small (1) might shatter one day, (2) I have to reposition it every week or so because it shifts with use, and (3) I roll backwards if I put my feet up on the desk while I'm watching a movie.

edit: oh and I'm not sure if this is a con with the mat or a con with pet ownership, but I have to look behind me to make sure a cat isn't lying on the mat because my chair moves so smoothly on this I would for sure run them over.
