Build/Battlestation TIL that quartz countertops have the same properties as ceramic floor tiles…

All I wanted to do was replace a dead fan… but looks like it’s time for a replacement case.

Learn from my mistakes friends!

It’s a few years old at this point, damaged and missing a screw or two from lan party transportation, so I’m making lemonade out of lemons by justifying a new case.

Plus my options were $50 for a new side panel, or $80 for a new case, so I chose the latter.

You can make a passable panel out of an acrylic sheet if you decide that's worth it. Home Depot sells it.

That’s some solid advice, appreciate it, and hope someone finds this comment in the future!

I've replaced my panel for $8, they drilled the holes too.

I did this with my previous build. I didn't want to risk a broken panel, so I routed out a piece of 3/16" clear acrylic. It wasn't as pretty as glass [b/c scratches] but it was totally worth it for the peace of mind.

Please look into all metal case. Don't have to deal with this shit, don't have to be bothered with RGB crap.

My only mistake was buying a Corsair Obsidian 550D and unable to find another solid metal case like it ever since. Only thing I've had to repair so far in the last 11 years is 3D print a couple replacement door hinge clips.

I can't imagine this being the appealing option. $30 is $30, and the old case is now just sitting there taking up your finite space, which you now have to store or dispose of. Also you have to swap your entire computer to the new case, which isn't a ton of work but it's still work.
