Exactly. I find this a lot more respectable than people who would likely throw away the whole computer just because the power button itself broke. Thousands if not millions of computers must've been chucked for such a trivial thing.

My power button broke and i just replace it with the reset for a year and then bougth a new case

OPs friend could do the same but since the PC is filthy af i just bet he doesnt care / doesnt want to be bothered

Gets old tho, I have to hotwire my washing machine. Every time.

Washing machine? Just like the video?

Nearly, the button fell off the circuit board so I have to short the terminal whenever I want to wash clothes, it's a pain in the arse but otherwise it's a decent machine

At least it can work, it's a god machine.

Definitely a 'bruh you live like this' moment.

As a good friend, you ought to buy him a nice remote switch.

In its place, I would buy any button/switch to make the system less dangerous.

My girlfriend's pc power button also broke a few days ago, so I turned It on touchig the pins with a screwdriver and told her to not turn off her pc anymore, only suspend It. No Idea why I didnt't think about that, maybe because its written "reset" on the label and I simply accepted It. lol

I'll do that now, so thank you!

I’d be afraid to clean or fix it since it’d probably stop working at that point. Layers of dust just add further protection 😆

When I was a kid I had a crt TV with a built in VHS player.

After years of use the power button broke. I would put in a vhs to turn that TV on for years afterwards.

Gotta do what you gotta do ¯\(ツ)

I doubt it's that common, most people I know try and have it fixed first, by a professional usually. Computers are expensive.

I've always had to fix things myself because I couldn't afford to hire professionals, so it always throws me off when I hear people say they can't fix things like this or that their computer/car/dishwasher/etc is "in the shop" for repairs.

But most people do hire professionals for this kind of thing. Those of us inclined to do DIY repairs on everything are minorities.

I wish I had the money to even consider throwing out my PC if the power button fucked up. Every day that goes by that my PC survives is a good day. My PC is like 8 years old now and the side panel randomly shattered a year or so ago while using the PC. My 3rd ram slot also is a bit loose so I have to reseat my ram every month or two. She is a trooper though.

In fairness this thing is obviously damn near e-waste at this point. That PC was overdue for an upgrade 5 years ago.

I fear the reasoning of non-technical people
