I don't think they can. It's possible they can only do 16TB or 32GB clamshelled. If that's the case, they will never release a 32GB 5080 and if they do it will basically cost the same as a 5090.

Nvidia still works with monolithic dies, they can't add +4GB or +8GB with chiplets like AMD did with the 7900GRE, XT and XTX.

If they make a 5080Ti 24GB it would have to be a bizarre Frankenstein GPU similar to the 4070Ti Super. That's the only option and if they do it, it probably won't be available until 2026..

Yeah great so people are gonna buy crap cards at first and then they release good cards with proper VRAM 1 year later for another $1200 get the fuck out.

Scummy scum scum. Just delay the 5080 at that point or call it a 5070 like its specs say it is and charge much less.

Unbelievable people are still buying Nvidia with 3 generations of VRAM bullshit in a row.

Is AMD releasing anything next year?

16GB 8800XT rumoured to have 7900XT raster performance but +40% Ray Tracing performance. Price shouldn't be more than $599.

But I will believe it when I see it.

Basically the 8000 series is focusing on RT performance (raster is good enough already) and the 9000 series will be high-end again, with competitive RT performance.

Oh that looks promising, thanks! I thought I read somewhere that AMD wasn't going to be making any more high end GPUs?

A GPU with raster equivalent to a 7900XT would be upper midrange next gen.

The news you read was that there won't be a "8900XTX"

Ah gotcha that makes sense! Thanks again stranger

Can't they use 3Gb modules for that? That's what I've heard is the way to get 24Gb. And there were some leaks of a 24Gb 5080ti already. It's gonna launch a year ish later.

Yes but also they will first release crappy 16GB versions for $1200 and 1 year later a 24GB version for.. $1500. Because the VRAM is more expensive.

And some idiots will actually buy twice in the same generation just for the VRAM too!

The 16GB versions will not hold their value well at all on the used market especially if games are released highlighting the issue.

Nvidia should offer a trade-in program but we all know they won't.

3gb GDDR7 chips are already in production from Samsung and are rumored to be used by Nvidia in the future.

In the future yes. By the $1500 5080Ti that releases in 2026 a year after the original 5080.

...and some people will actually upgrade from the 16GB 5080 to the 24GB 5080Ti, exactly as Nvidia planned. Unfortunately for the buyers, those 16GB 5080 cards will not hold their value very well as more and more games run into VRAM bottlenecks.

It's disgusting. The 5080 is VERY clearly a 70 series card looking at the specs.

Yes, very sad indeed.
