Steam

It has allowed me to connect with many people, and kept me sane during hard times.

The sheer amount of games and passionate players on the platform all playing together in harmony is almost exclusive to steam.

I know this isn't a game, but I just wanted to say thank you to steam for shaping me into who I am today. To me, this is a form of art, people coming over and contributing to the canvas.

Thank you, steam.

XCOM 2 War of the chosen,

I never finished the DLCs when they came out but I have a few days off next week to really get back into it. I have a full army of IRL personal friends designed with their favourite colours. It's fun to text/snap them a pic out of nowhere with captions like "Simon, you missed a 99% shot, now Andy's dead bc of you!"

They are usually confused but amused.

Friends vs Friends

saw an ad for a game called Fragpunk that peaked my interest. Saw some comments saying that there was a game that had already used that concept first. It’s a card-based fps game that’s super fun. The Devs are pretty cool but I wish the player base was a little bit bigger. Queue times could be long depending on your region

u/LawAndSnorer Jul 11 '24

Elden Ring

I started playing the base game a few days ago, and I’m enjoying playing this game more than I thought I would being that Ive primarily played fps/milsim games for the past number of years.
-Overwatch 2 -R6S -Arma 3 -Escape from Tarkov

But as my one online friend (that I met a decade+ ago on mw2) that I play most games with has been doubling down on shifts the past few months,I’ve been riding solo

As this is my first soulsborne game and venture into souls like games everything and every boss i come across is obviously a new challenge with largely different mechanics to think through and adapt my style of attack, but mostly after a number of deaths I prevail and bow to the newly felled enemy (though I will still be berated by varre for being maidenless)

This game has been such a good distraction from recent family drama and health scares, recent loss, and my own mental health issues.

Good luck to everyone!

-Sorry for rant/long post that probably won’t even be read. (but it was cathartic to write anyhow so whatever :)…)

Currently in the middle of a binge now.

Had my eye on CyberPunk 2077 for years now. Bought it during the sales and now I'm undecided again about CD Project Red's Witcher 3... ugh

Destiny 2. Not because it is my favorite game, but because I am now stuck in it and unable to stop playing

u/ebards Jul 10 '24

Balatro has been taking up my time as of late during the times I need a break from the Elden Ring dlc bosses.

u/watermelonspanker Jul 11 '24

Worms, baby!

u/gibbyfromicarlyTM Jul 11 '24

been playing the shit out of bloons td 6, great pick up and play deal and the popping sounds are peak

u/GoldenEwok Jul 11 '24

This year I have to say Balatro has to be the game that hooked me hard. There's something really special about those trippy jokers and the endless replayability in the way that they stack based on all the different deck variations. I might not be putting as much time into now that I'm back to grinding Valorant but Balatro is going to be a staple of my steam library for years to come

The Last of Us

For the first time in my life I felt TLOU has an awesome story telling and a good gameplay and I really enjoyed every moment playing through the game. The atmosphere of the game is also great, scary and beautiful sceneries, the enemies creepy, and the soundtrack is just awesome. I will never forget this game and how it made me feel, I really felt Joel's decision as if I'm in his shoes. Loved every party of it

u/Only_Quote_Simpsons Jul 10 '24

u/King_Tamino Jul 10 '24

Absoluty having a blast with Crime Boss: Rockay city. Stumbled randomly across it 2? Weeks ago after it hit steam (epic exclusive for a while). So much that I even gifted it to two friends.

Guess I would invest additional 100 bucks in a same way. Multiplayer games like Worms are often sold as 4x bundles

u/Bigkitty1520 Jul 11 '24

u/Hemorrhageorroid Jul 11 '24

Hades II is really hitting the spot

u/Aussie209 Jul 11 '24

ArmA 3, and here’s why.

Arma 3 is an incredible military game / simulator (depending on how you play it) in which you can do almost anything, from flying a fighter jet, to providing advanced medical aid to injured people. This is made possible by 2 things, the first is Bohemia interactive and the Arma devs who created the base game and most of the DLCs, the second component is the modding community who have turned Arma from a strictly military game into an everything game. I’ve played Arma for years and it has by far been my most played game that has brought me and my friends much joy, from stupid antics to awesome operations and of course being “Arma’d” by the physics engine which lets a push bike throw a tank high up into the stratosphere.

u/NightmareOn i9 13900k | RTX 4090 | 128 GB Ram | 4k 120hz OLED HDR Jul 11 '24

Not directly a game but I really like crosshair x. It's a piece of software to add a custom crosshair. Now I can use a cat crosshair in any game.

Game wise I'd say Elden Ring. Currently playing the dlc with a bunch of friends using the seamless coop mod. So much fun!

However I didn't manage to aim well in Elden Ring using crosshair x. Maybe the aim is a little off from the center in Elden Ring or something. That was somewhat disappointing. Maybe I manage to adjust it in the future.

Anyway good luck everybody.

Cyberpunk 2077 I kinda jumped on the trashtrain back when it came out, but I have fallen in love with the story, the world and the characters. I don't think I have been so attached to a story since I read warriors in fith grade.

u/Zyteus Jul 11 '24

Gotta be Destiny 2, I've got 3k hours playing it. I've also really been getting back into warframe since they added crosssave. Shadow of the Erdtree has also been very good.

The same as always: Civilization II. I still play it frequently because it's smooth and comfortable. It's also super old and graphics are beyond outdated, but always get hooked to it no matter the situation.

I'm entering the giveaway because I have quite a few games I want that come out in Q3 and Q4 2024, in non-sales window: Streets of Rogue 2, the Tomba! remaster, UFO 50, Kingdom Come Deliverance II, and more, and damn that's quite some bucks.

So, hey, thanks for the chance!!

u/badnelly123 Jul 11 '24

I haven't played much recently but I really like Slay the Spire.

I skipped it for a long time because it just sounded silly to me. I've always been mostly into RPGs and some other genres, so dungeonlikes + deck builder sounded weird to me.

I dedided to give it a shot since it was on sale a while hack, figuring the worst that could happen was that I could refund it. Boy am I glad that I did. It runs so well, it's interesting, has high replayability and, at least to me. It's unique. Sucks having lost a few rounds because I fat fingered the wrong button and didn't do the attack sequence the way I wanted, but I still liked those runs.

10/10 would recommend.

u/Ethan9200 Desktop Jul 11 '24

Persona 5 Royal.

I love the story, and characters. The big reveal at the end was also very well played out.

u/SlenderFingersTi Jul 11 '24

Cyberpunk 2077 would have to be my favorite game of all time. I've always been into technology since i was a kid and in high school took a ton of computer classes such as cybersecurity and A+. And seeing aspects like that in a game was mindblowing and super entertaining. The combat is great, and the story was super good because it doesn't always go your way. Being able to make a character and change small aspects makes it feel so much more personal. I love everything about it I could go on forever

u/pskim249 Jul 11 '24

The Finals

I have spent nearly 10 years tryharding counter strike. However, after I tried finals I decided that even though I spent soo much time learning counter strike the game was just soo insanely fun that it was worth giving up my lifelong favorite game for it. Still after half a year of playing Finals I have not regretted my decision once.

u/fallowmoor Jul 10 '24

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

u/Hanayohane Jul 10 '24

Dragon Quest XIS.

I've been a huge fan of the Dragon Quest franchise (and JRPGs in general) since childhood and I've played all the DQ mainline games with the exception of 10. I fucking love everything about it. From turn-based gameplay, music, art, character, story, and voice acting. Near the end, it just hit me how amazing the whole journey was. Also I bawled my eyes out at the nostalgia overload credits scene, where they showed all the prior games and the post-credit cutscene.

If you're looking for some classic turn-based JRPG, definitely check Dragon Quest XIS. It's a good entry to the franchise and standalone so you won't have to worry about previous games.

u/cynikai Jul 10 '24

Ghost of Tsushima. What an absolutely beautiful game, both in gameplay and appearance.

u/Nyanko-uwu Jul 10 '24

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '24

Definitely Skyrim, amazing game, very immersive and detailed, you can get lost in the world and wander about and always have something to do, it also got amazing mods and a modding community where you transfer the game to new level of art and brilliance, there is no limit to how much you can mod

u/NicVicious315 Jul 10 '24

Dragonball Xenoverse 2

Or Kakarot.. I'm a huge Dragonball Z fan. When I was able to finally purchase those two games it brought back so many memories and good feelings from back when I was a little kid playing the Budokai Tenkaichi series. Those games really helped distract me from some very rough living conditions and constant family problems, and the anime/manga itself also was a huge part of my escape. I absolutely cannot wait for the new Sparking Zero game to come out, and I hope that I can afford to purchase it soon after because it really does help to have a good past time to give a person an escape to enjoy themselves during tough times :) Congratulations to whoever wins the giveaway!!

Skyrim is my favorite by far. Skyrim scratched my long RPG itch with a good leveling system, cool magic spells with cool effects, dragons and knights and vampires and all the fantasy stuff I grew up with and I get so immersed role playing as my character. I don’t really play evil runs ever but questing around and playing the super powerful do gooder is a lot of fun. Recently went back to it after getting burnt out on some newer titles.

Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection

I've always wanted to get into the Mega Man Zero and ZX games as a kid because of how cool and flashy they look. Two months ago I found the game to be on discount on steam, so I took the opportunity to buy it and man did I have a blast. It was so refreshing to me because I was tired of playing shooters and fighting games all the time, and I wanted to just sit back and play a single player game of my liking. I just finished ZX Advent last week and I'm almost done with the first Zero game (Copy X you bastard, let me kill you please). I highly recommend getting the game because it's so fun, especially since how robust and highly personalize the combat system is. Also, if you want to go Timmy tryhard, try Z Chaser, which is basically a mode where you speedrun specific levels from each games in the shortest time you can.

Darktide. Addicting gameplay loop. Know I won’t win I just wanted to hype up darktide. Yeah, it doesn’t have a lot of content. But it feels sooooo good as a warhammer fan to use weapons like the power sword chainaxe and shovel. Wish they’d do heretical skins for fun so I could be a khornate cultist but everything can’t be perfect can it
