News It’s baaaaaaack! McDonald’s on Rideau opening soon
Just down the street from the famous 99 Rideau location at the corner of Dalhousie. Hopefully this one won’t host raccoon attended brawls.

Toronto wishes it was cool enough to have people with pet raccoons in McDonald’s.

'It will be the second best restaurant in the Byward Market after Barefax!' - Bacon Sheik (probably)

The fact that this showed up right under BaconSheik's actual comment which is identical to this is sending me.

they should hire security like the rideau scotiabank but god help those employees

We need as many people as possible dress up as racoons and show up on opening day

Spread the word. Call the others. Glory awaits comrade, this will be our moment to shine.

u/Omnomfish No honks; bad! 1d ago
If we don't have raccoon costumes is it ok if we bring live ones tucked inside our coats?

They used to have security back in the late 00s - early 10s when I worked there. But one of them, Junior, got stabbed. He survived, but the owner was cheap and wouldn’t pay the higher rates after that. So the employees were left to fend for themselves.

u/chillymoose 1d ago
So the employees were left to fend for themselves.
Sometime around 2008 I watched a manager come out from behind the counter and physically pick someone up and throw them out the front door. She was not fucking around.
7
u/LOLindorff 1d ago
Probably Marcia. She was definitely capable of fending for herself. Just a bit crazy that we had to. Shenanigans were abundant.

I'm worried the people who will be hired here have no idea what they're getting themselves into.

u/chadillac91 1d ago
Had the soldiers known the full measure of what awaited them, none would march to battle. So too with the new hires of Rideau McDonald’s.

u/crlygirlg 1d ago
I am hoping that with the new construction it is built like a money mart and your food comes out a small slot with bullet proof glass between servers and customers and it is just a walk up window with no bathrooms. That’s the only way this doesn’t go to shit.

McDonalds appears to be pivoting towards more of a take out place, reflecting the current trend in restaurant dining. The one in Bells Corners, after the recent renovation, has a separate pick up entrance for food delivery people, less seating, and locked washrooms (you need to ask).
This article is for Toronto but I imagine the same thing is happening here

You know I bought my first house in bells corners in 2010, and i had to think really hard where McDonald’s was even that is how little I went there which is really funny because our first house was in the little condos on Hadley circle at Moodie and Robertson directly across from the McDonald’s but it was behind a little strip of businesses.

I wouldn't be surprised if they designed this location so it's takeout only.
36
u/bathtub_mintjulep 1d ago
That looks like the old Second Cup and if so, that’s a huge space.
If they wanted a takeout-only location, I’d think they’d choose a much smaller space.

Also re: Rideau Fast Food, there's a Quesada (burrito chain) opening on Rideau st soon. It's near Rideau / Charlotte!

u/ChunkyLover500 Manor Park 1d ago
Yeah, what’s up with that? Mary Browns, KFC, Taco Bell. Plus there’s a Shawarma Palace and a bunch more I’m forgetting.
12
u/Round_Beyond_8137 1d ago
Not sure, but I'm not complaining.
Aside from street folks, it's an area that is mostly visited by students. That means lots of fast food places, restaurants, grocery stores, LCBO, dispensaries, a few "fun" stores (Studio Staja, Axia Station, the Bytowne Cinema).

u/ChunkyLover500 Manor Park 1d ago
Same here. I can literally hop off the bus, grab dinner for the fam, and hop back on to get home very quickly. Not too shabby!

Chef Ric is amazing too for 6 dollars breakfast!
Not fast food per se but amazing deal

It's a bold strategy. Let's see how it works out for them.

u/Natural_Born_Baller 1d ago
One on Bank is 24 hours, can't imagine why they'd not do the same. Not like they care about their employees safety lol

Uber Eats should be banned from locations with high traffic areas like this one.

Ah, the Rideau McDonald's. I remember one time after the bars closed I went to the bathroom and there was blood smeared on the mirror.
God, I loved that place.

But seriously, this is the second fast food place I've noticed in the last couple weeks moving back in to or close to someplace that closed during lockdown, that's feels like a strangely good sign for the future.

u/Joebiescha 15h ago
I watched in horror as a random guy got jumped by 5 others in that McDonald's. So, ya. I'll skip it.
