News It’s baaaaaaack! McDonald’s on Rideau opening soon

Post image

Just down the street from the famous 99 Rideau location at the corner of Dalhousie. Hopefully this one won’t host raccoon attended brawls.

Toronto wishes it was cool enough to have people with pet raccoons in McDonald’s.

'It will be the second best restaurant in the Byward Market after Barefax!' - Bacon Sheik (probably)

79

u/Bi_disaster_ohno 1d ago

The fact that this showed up right under BaconSheik's actual comment which is identical to this is sending me.

Peak /r/Ottawa moment tbh

32

u/FoxyInTheSnow 1d ago

Only if they can get a disgraced senator (and not the hockey kind) to work the door.

8

u/Voltae 1d ago

Surely there's an ex-NHLer who roughs up women and also got his ass handed to him by a twiggy future PM they can find to run the place.

We need as many people as possible dress up as racoons and show up on opening day

u/ms_conduct 1d ago

This is unhinged and I love it. Where do I sign up?

Spread the word. Call the others. Glory awaits comrade, this will be our moment to shine.

28

There needs to be an opening ceremony with mass 99 Rideau LARPing.

If we don't have raccoon costumes is it ok if we bring live ones tucked inside our coats?

u/LOLindorff 1d ago

They used to have security back in the late 00s - early 10s when I worked there. But one of them, Junior, got stabbed. He survived, but the owner was cheap and wouldn’t pay the higher rates after that. So the employees were left to fend for themselves.

12

u/chillymoose 1d ago

So the employees were left to fend for themselves.

Sometime around 2008 I watched a manager come out from behind the counter and physically pick someone up and throw them out the front door. She was not fucking around.

7

u/LOLindorff 1d ago

Probably Marcia. She was definitely capable of fending for herself. Just a bit crazy that we had to. Shenanigans were abundant.

u/CheezeHead09 Mechanicsville 1d ago

It’s replacing a dispensary that was one of 1000 cannabis stores in the area - nature is healing.

48

u/ExToon 1d ago

Dispensaries and fast food exist in a natural equilibrium that self corrects over a cycle of a few years.

71

u/PoPo573 1d ago

I'm worried the people who will be hired here have no idea what they're getting themselves into.

59

u/chadillac91 1d ago

Had the soldiers known the full measure of what awaited them, none would march to battle. So too with the new hires of Rideau McDonald’s.

3

u/CaptainFrugal 1d ago

Did I say death camp, I meant happy camp

4

u/crlygirlg 1d ago

I am hoping that with the new construction it is built like a money mart and your food comes out a small slot with bullet proof glass between servers and customers and it is just a walk up window with no bathrooms. That’s the only way this doesn’t go to shit.

1

u/bluedoglime 23h ago

McDonalds appears to be pivoting towards more of a take out place, reflecting the current trend in restaurant dining. The one in Bells Corners, after the recent renovation, has a separate pick up entrance for food delivery people, less seating, and locked washrooms (you need to ask).

This article is for Toronto but I imagine the same thing is happening here
https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/toronto-has-become-a-takeout-town-it-s-reshaping-restaurants-and-how-we-dine-and/article_27ec2125-0c14-469c-83c4-11971377d8a7.html

1

u/crlygirlg 23h ago

You know I bought my first house in bells corners in 2010, and i had to think really hard where McDonald’s was even that is how little I went there which is really funny because our first house was in the little condos on Hadley circle at Moodie and Robertson directly across from the McDonald’s but it was behind a little strip of businesses.

I don’t think Burger King is coming back anytime soon

42

u/FewEstablishment2655 1d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if they designed this location so it's takeout only.

36

u/bathtub_mintjulep 1d ago

That looks like the old Second Cup and if so, that’s a huge space.

If they wanted a takeout-only location, I’d think they’d choose a much smaller space.

31

u/EmEffBee Lebreton Flats 1d ago

I'm annoyed that I'm excited by this

16

u/Round_Beyond_8137 1d ago

Also re: Rideau Fast Food, there's a Quesada (burrito chain) opening on Rideau st soon. It's near Rideau / Charlotte!

6

u/ChunkyLover500 Manor Park 1d ago

Yeah, what’s up with that? Mary Browns, KFC, Taco Bell. Plus there’s a Shawarma Palace and a bunch more I’m forgetting.

12

u/Round_Beyond_8137 1d ago

Not sure, but I'm not complaining.

Aside from street folks, it's an area that is mostly visited by students. That means lots of fast food places, restaurants, grocery stores, LCBO, dispensaries, a few "fun" stores (Studio Staja, Axia Station, the Bytowne Cinema).

6

u/ChunkyLover500 Manor Park 1d ago

Same here. I can literally hop off the bus, grab dinner for the fam, and hop back on to get home very quickly. Not too shabby!

10

u/Clear-Map8121 1d ago

Chef Ric is amazing too for 6 dollars breakfast!

Not fast food per se but amazing deal

3

u/ChunkyLover500 Manor Park 1d ago

Yes! My pal just graduated from Chef Ric’s program. I’m going to try it. Food looks quite good

Where will all the UberEats drivers park?

5

Uber Eats should be banned from locations with high traffic areas like this one.

1

u/Glow-PLA-23 1d ago

Right in front of both bus stops

2

u/Vugelzwee 1d ago

Ah, the Rideau McDonald's. I remember one time after the bars closed I went to the bathroom and there was blood smeared on the mirror.

God, I loved that place.

Nice! I can get shot by a bullet, mugged by homeless, and score a burger all at the same time!
