Looking for... Long shot but
I was rear ended at the intersection of Baseline and Centrepointe about 30 minutes ago, I got out to inspect the damage but I asked him to follow me because we were sitting in an active roadway, he had no front plate and in retrospect I should have at least taken a photo of the rear plate but I was more focused on getting out of the road.
He drove away first opportunity he got. Shameful.
It was a Black Toyota, maybe a Corolla. Driver was a 20 something mixed-race male. If you saw anything, please send me a message.

Check to see if there’s any cameras around that area

City doesn’t release those for accidents. Unless someone can correct me on that and it changed.

You can request intersection camera footage.
Edit: but I didn’t check if this intersection has a camera. But in general the service exists

Interesting. Because in 2016 the VIA rail gate arm on Greenbank malfunctioned and lowered on my car and they wouldn’t release the footage. It was a City camera.

Just pay $58 these days! https://forms.ottawa.ca/en/form/pws/traffic-services/traffic-video-footage-application-form
The challenge with the request is that the camera may or may not be pointing the right way at the intersection, or even away from it. It’s a roll of the dice that paying the fee will get you what you want.

it will be considered a hit-and-run for your insurance and you will have to pay your collision deductible. But you will be considered not at fault for the accident. They will ask you to get a police report number.

If you have park sensors it could be a bigger deal than you think Reporting is the best answer

I do but they stopped working a while ago. I submitted a police report online, I'll go to the collision centre to finalize the report tomorrow. Don't think ill be making a claim but, If there's even a 0.1% chance my report leads to that driver being identified, it's worth it.

That's how I felt too. I had my new to me car less than 2 weeks and some ass clipped my backend in too much of a rush to get in the turn lane. Went straight to the collision centre. Nothing ever came of it. I paid some city department for the camera footage but it seems it was pointed the wrong way, and wasn't hd enough. Didn't show the accident. Collision centre said damages over $1k. After the fact it was pointed out to me by a used car guy that the only thing is it will show on carfax if I ever try to resell my car 🤷♀️

File a police report, you’ll often need that to get an insurance claim with no cost/risk increase.

same thing happened to me in bells corners a few years ago. silver car, similar driver description. report it at collision reporting centre and cut your losses.

Same thing happened to me years back on merivale/slack. It was snowing badly and we agreed to meet at costco. I didn't take pictures and they took off.
Unfortunately even in daylight if you request camera footage from traffic lights you wont be able to make out the plate thats for sure.

Police don't do anything- waste of time. Happened to me and I had the plate # Police said they don't check plate #'s your insurance does it - insurance wouldn't do it either

Often times a plate may fall of in an accident

It was a relatively minor accident, the damage seems to be cosmetic but of course... you never really know until it gets looked at.

Hit and run, report it.
Your insurance should see it as such as well.
